  1. I seem to remember last year early on he hit like. 400 and then in maybe the second or third week went into a prolonged slump that brought him down to .290 or so. (Feel free to correct me if my memory is faulty.) So I think we've seen some inconsistencies from him early on in the season before.
  2. Gibby:Wow, how great is that. My wife and I have been globetrotting for the last 3 years. We haven't done the middle east yet. I'm envious. Globetrotting as in living abroad? My wife and I plan on doing that within a year or so. Any favorites? Feel free to PM if you don't want to derail the thread any further.
  3. Big Pelf still looking sharp. Big Joe not so much. (He'll come around.)
  4. Also Jamie Hirsch = hot. I went to college with her, but I doubt she'd have given me the time of day.
  5. Pelf looked sharp that first inning. P-flo even got an excuse me hit. Too bad about sending that runner though.
  6. After all that, I'm not sure I could have taken a loss. My fragile sensibilities wouldn't have let me.
  7. Now they're just getting us back for Escobar's first at bat.
  8. Just watched the replay before the commercial break. That would have been a stand up triple if he hadn't stood in the batters box for 5 minutes watching it fly.
  9. That's the way that was supposed to go before! Yeah Arcia!
  10. I am shocked that Trevor Plouffe has come through. Sad to say it. Maybe he's turned a corner? Can we expect this the rest of the year?
  11. That was a horrible strike call.
  12. Arcia gave that one a ride. We just needed a few more feet.
  13. Both Colabello and Plouffe step up. Good to see. Also, I still hate Sox fans.
  14. And here I was having fun. Now all I can think about is how much I hate the White Sox and their obnoxious drunk fans.
  15. Well, there goes the quality start.
  16. Empties the bases! Ugly, but runs are runs. Is it an error though?
  17. Escobar is on second despite having struck out AND gotten caught stealing. I don't think I've ever seen that. I hope I don't see that again.
  18. Who is this friggin De Aza guy? (And can we trade Duensing for him?)
  19. Can we also talk about Plouffe for a second here? In the spring, and in the first couple of games, he's been smacking balls the other way, which it seems like he almost never did last season. (Or even the season before, but in 2012 I don't think pitchers were pitching him away as much.) If he's got an improved approach at the plate and can take balls the other way, I can see his batting average up over .250 with an improved OBP. That means that even if he can't launch 30 bombs like we hoped, he'll be a nice, valuable 3B for Sano's convalescence. Last year, he was fairly middling for a 3B, which perhaps speaks to the lack of good players at that position. This year, he could find himself solidly above average. I just hope I'm not speaking too soon.
  20. Between Kubel and Parmelee, my preference is Parmelee. Kubel was pretty bad for the latter half of 2012, all of 2013, and all this spring. I think he has nothing left in the tank. He can't run, he can't field, he's probably not good enough to DH. I think this is the definition of falling off a cliff. Parmelee probably doesn't have the upside we thought he did in 2011, but at this point it seems fairly clear to me that it's higher than what Kubel brings. Furthermore, he has team control remaining while Kubel is in his 30s and on a one-year contract, meaning he has to be viewed as strictly a short-term option. Is it really worth losing Parmelee to watch Kubel flail in the majors for a couple months before he's cut? I say Parmelee all the way.
  21. What indications? Are there quotes from the decision makers that indicate he's likely won a spot? The reason I ask is that I've been watching this spring, and as far as I can tell, all indications are that he's been brutal.
  22. Excellent stuff. I think you and I view baseball in much the same way. I'd love to hear your rap, and I promise I'll at least laugh politely. Come find me at the game. I'll be the one wearing a shirt that says Twins on it.
  23. I got around to watching this game today. I think the guy had a mini-stroke each time a new Twin came up to bat. My favorite was when he managed to make Caleb Thielbar sound like someone from Saudi Arabia.
