  1. Speaking for myself, yes. But I also fully accept that what I think may differ from what the front office thinks. But since so much of this is speculation anyway, my position is that, if I were GM, when the pitcher is ready and there is a spot open, I move him up regardless of where the Super 2 deadline is. Lots of "ifs." The one thing that isn't really an "if" in my mind is whether or not the Super 2 deadline applies.
  2. I agree with this and would take it even further. I don't care about Super 2 period, for pitchers or for hitters. The cool thing about arbitration is that they won't be paid more than they've proven they're worth. (And honestly, in the first couple years of arbitration, they may still end up underpaid anyway.) What's a few million extra when you can transition a top prospect the major leagues in his prime years? Hell, I'll gladly pay more for age 27 if it means he's in the majors at age 24. Right? I do agree about the extra year of control, though. But that deadline is far earlier than Super 2, so I just can't bring myself to care about what they might (might!) get paid with one more year of arbitration.
  3. Another great Kubes memory that I haven't seen mentioned here: he hit the first home run in Target Field history. Though I did love that grand slam off Rivera too!
  4. I'm not an expert on park dimensions or anything, but it seems to me that the more likely explanation for a higher HR rate in the majors than in the minors is simple survivorship bias. Only the best hitters ever make it to the bigs, but you'll see guys playing in the Florida State League whose next stop will be town ball. Of course that doesn't explain Ozzie's bump, but I'd think that this early in his career it's more of a statistical anomaly than anything. If he kept up this home run rate, he'd hit 100 every year.
  5. Ya know, if you use an "h" as in "rhoids" it just sounds like you're talking about hemorrhoids. Uncomfortable sure; illegal not so much.
  6. Did I get my figures wrong? Or is $30 million the total including team options? In any case (and this is coming from a guy without even a $10 bat much less a $10 million bat), that kind of money is hard to pass up considering that no one really knows yet whether you're any good.
  7. Am I in the minority in thinking that this deal was in his best interests anyway, regardless of whether he might be able to make a few more million somewhere down the line without this contract? And that guys like Longoria aren't really "giving money away"? Maybe it's my natural financial conservatism, but $30 million is "**** you money." One injury can end a career in a second and you're still set for life. What's the alternative? Hope that nothing goes wrong for the next seven years? I get that you should gamble on yourself, but I dont make gambles I can't afford to lose. When $30 million is on the table I'm taking it. He didn't give money away. He purchased a very favorable insurance policy. He got his and his family's financial security for a lifetime at the price of a speculation.
  8. I realize how this sounds, but Jack Wilson has the absolute worst-fitting suit ever. Your suit jacket should not be multiple inches away from your neck. Also, I may be a few beers deep. See you tomorrow night!
  9. I'm overreacting. I don't really hate it, but I still would have preferred Reid-Foley. Hey, maybe we'll finally get rid of Matt Guerrier?
  10. I can't see passing on Reid-Foley there.
  11. I'm surprised he got THIS far. Same with Reid-Foley. A guy can dream right?
  12. I'm watching this on mlb.com, and they keep repeating the same commercials. I would pay somebody good money to slap Jason Aldean across the face right now.
  13. 2nd pick: Sean Reid-Foley? Spencer Adams? Nick Burdi?
  14. Derek Hill does not look excited to be drafted by Detroit. Though I can't say I blame him. "Congrats, kid! You were just picked in the first round of the draft, and your reward is ....a one way ticket to a postapocalyptic hellhole!" $2 million will help, I suppose.
  15. Zimmer's a good pick for the Indians. Crap.
  16. Toussaint seems to be really falling at this point...
  17. Interesting take on the Hoffman-money angle. Take him earlier, save more money due to the slotting system. Probably doesn't work if the Blue Jays don't have two top picks in quick succession, but something I didn't think about.
  18. Awesome! I'm all for getting the shortstop of the future!
  19. Schwarber just got comped to Kubel. So there's that.
  20. That would be ...unexpected. Still doesn't change the likelihood of Gordon, I would think, as the top 3 arms are off the board.
  21. Aside from the last-few-days smoke screens and faux drama, this is going more or less how it was projected over the past week. Hey, at this point, one of Gordon and Jackson will be available. I'm still on the Nick Gordon bandwagon.
  22. My hand is poised over the F5 button. I hope I don't break it.
