  1. Interesting. (And probably a bit off topic, but interesting.) I ran the numbers: Overall win percentage: .457 Win percentage NO Mauer: .413 Win percentage WITH Mauer: .473 I would guess without checking that the disparity was even larger when Mauer went out at the end of last year. Even though he's having a down year, his presence in the lineup remains pretty well correlated with more winning.
  2. Occam's Razor. I think you're right. What's the over/under on how long it takes for one of the GMs to fall asleep during trade negotiations for Sam Fuld?
  3. With a sub-.600 OPS and on a short term rental contract, this was all that was really realistic. Frankly it is probably mostly a salary dump. It's attached to low probability lottery ticket, but still mostly a salary dump.
  4. I'd rather trade him for Miguel Cabrera and have Detroit eat half his salary. Duh.
  5. According to the box score, Wheeler had 95 pitches. I'm sure they would have loved for him to go longer, but it seems he wasn't very efficient in his five innings/~100 pitches.
  6. Pretty good story. Mother's sickness aside, it seems like his choice to go back to school paid off pretty well. Best to him as he climbs the ladder.
  7. Oh yeah? Once I played literally four hours of cricket before I realized that I was actually just studying in the library.
  8. But this is only when the thread is about the pitching coach or the catcher...
  9. Heh. What, are you new here?
  10. I was going to post something about as well. I think I'd be interested.
  11. Doesn't he get an extra option as a 16-year old international signee who spent multiple seasons in short-season ball? From baseball america, talking about "fourth option" players: It gives them some breathing room, but his injury history would be very concerning with three options or four, so we'll just have to hope for health.
  12. The whole peaked/peeked thing really threw me off. I sure hope he hasn't peaked at Cedar Rapids...
  13. Good article. I think so much of Aaron Hicks' story wasn't being written by Aaron Hicks. For example, so many posters here blamed all sorts of things for his ineffectiveness, including lack of maturity, lack of preparation, not knowing what's expected of him, etc. None of these things are proven, just imputed, and for all we know we're guessing entirely wrong. In any case, it seems like he's getting his head screwed back on straight (whatever that actually may entail!), and the early returns are very encouraging. I'm happy the Twins are doing what seems to be best for Hicks, and I'm happy that he doesn't seem to be sulky and resentful for having to take a well-deserved trip back to the minors. I don't think we've seen the last of Aaron Hicks.
  14. Not too surprising given that he was hitting what? .150? .160? Let's hope the Tigers pick him up and maybe extend him...
  15. Hey stringer bell, I'll take the over.
  16. I think it's time for another Plouffe power streak. Anyone else miss what he was doing those six weeks in 2012? It was like our own little Barry Bonds, but with a normal-sized head.
  17. Nice Big Papi/Little Papi side-by-side. By the way, Little Papi is way bigger than Big Papi...
  18. I can't believe how this front office enables Gardy's constant, ridiculous need to have three catc... what's that? Oh. Nevermind.
  19. Just got back from the game. It probably wasn't on TV, but Perkins' face was on the jumbotrons after the second out of the ninth inning. The mixture of awe, happiness, and childlike wonder written on his face was easily the best part of the entire game. I could hear his inner monologue: "This is actually happening. This is real life. Should I pinch myself? ..." Amazing.
