    I did a small amount of Googling, and it seems as though it's the World Cup at the Galen Center. If so, you'll be at my alma mater. Edit: if you'd like tips on what to do, and more importantly, what direction to avoid traveling in, let me know.

    No kidding about the head injuries. I've said it before, but I have to believe that it's lingering effects of the concussion. Not that he isn't "healthy," but major league hitters operate on a different spatial plane than most of us. Getting knocked into next Tuesday may throw that off for quite a while.

    It may be sad that I'm so excited for a routine Mauer single, but nothing has been routine for him this year, and the haters have been out in full force. I guess that when I'm constantly annoyed by shortsighted "fans" who can only think to bitch about salary when watching a potential hall of famer and a once-in-a-generation hitter, one measly little single seems like a much bigger deal than it really is.

    I'd love to know what was going through Pino's mind these couple hours. There aren't many times in your life where you can stand back and say "this is it," and really mean it. I hope it's the best cup of coffee he's ever tasted.

    I find this statistically dubious. Is it more likely that the player has to go to AAA because the Twins hate him and run their farm system like morons, or is it more likely that the player has to go to AAA because he isn't as good as a Joe Mauer-type who can just skip the league without any consequences? Only the best players are able to skip AAA (leaving aside the Hicks-type situation where lack of even a plan C forced them into it). AAA is full of players that, by definition weren't good enough to skip the league. So you're comparing apples to oranges.

    I think you're right that we may lose a few more games getting the rookies some experience, but I won't care about that. I'll just be happy to see them pitch. I also don't think they'll collapse. Remember that last year, about the only potent bat they had in the lineup was Mauer, and he went down the last, what?, 6 to 8 weeks of the season. This year, Mauer isn't hitting like Mauer (I still maintain that there are lingering effects of the concussion and time off!) and yet the Twins have looked better than last year. Barring the loss of Dozier to injury, e.g., or the fire sale of Willingham, Morales, Suzuki, etc., I just don't see as much of a chance to plummet.

    What Perkins said wasn't exactly complimentary but it wasn't mean-spirited either. In fact, if I'm Pinto, I pretty much know everything that Perkins just said already. Why? Well, I was probably told that when I was sent down to AAA. Or I took a peek at my stats. Pinto is an adult. He knows what happened to him and why better than anyone. And if he's honest with himself, he knows that his defense isn't at the major league level yet. (I mean, I'm no scout, but I've watched him catch.) But one of the very best things about Pinto is his reputation for sterling work ethic. If anybody will take this criticism to heart and learn from it, it'll be a guy like Pinto. Don't count him out. We're not through with Pinto yet.

    It's obvious why May didn't get the call for Thursday (short rest), but obviously less than obvious why it absolutely had to happen this Thursday. Why not wait a bit, give Deduno one more shot, and use May instead of Pino? But more to your point, this could also be a prelude to a bit of a shuffle. Pino requires an extra roster spot, and May is ready to be in Minneapolis now. Maybe this is just the first domino to fall, and the reason that it's the first is simply because Pino happened to be on the same five day schedule as the first guy the Twins want demoted? Just speculation, of course.

    True. And Mike Trout was drafted 25th. Baseball is an odd duck.

    Not to mention the back problems. It's the legacy of catching for more than a decade.

    So one statistic trumps the other one thousand and one statistics AND ten years' worth of Joe Mauer track record. Gotcha. We should DEFINITELY fire everyone from Terry Ryan to the grounds crew. That will win us multiple World Series per year, I'm pretty sure.

    I may have said this before, but I don't think there's a better second baseman right now than Brian Dozier. I'd like to see him have the kind of consistency year in and year out that the traditional top guys have and prove that this isn't just lightning in a bottle, but when it comes to things like all-star voting, which in theory is about how well you're playing this year, I just don't see how he doesn't objectively belong.
