Only one word to say at this point, Nick, Ouch! Great seeing Larnach follow Kirilloff's lead with his bat heating up following an 0 for whatever start. Certainly seems like these two should be middle of the order bats, beginning soon. Amazing how they found another way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory yesterday. Don't see how they can turn this ship around, but there are still what, 125 or so games remaining. If only the injuries would stop piling on.

Highlights: 4 Twins Prospects Off to Hot Starts
roger replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
As usual, Doc, will second everything you said. Especially excited about what Whitefield's future may be. I know he is currently off the 40-man roster, expect next time added he is going to stay as he is unlikely to get thru being DFA'd a second time. Rooting for Ober to make it to the Twins and to be successful once arriving. Gotta love guys who many say doesn't have the talent or stuff or velocity or whatever to make it. You know, guys who just go out and get it done. Loved Doc's comment comparing Ober to Radke. Yes, definitely different pitchers, but similar results. I expect most of us have been impressed with the early season success Julien is having. I know he was a surprise signing when the Twins got his signature on a contract. They went significantly over the $125K allowed for lower round picks, didn't they? Hopefully, we will feel the same about him on June 16 as we do today. -
Minor League Report (5/15): Double Duds and Double Walk-Offs
roger replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Thanks for the report, Matt. Sure was an interesting day in the minors as two of the four clubs took a good ole fashion butt kicking. Really concerned that Rooker doesn't miss more than a day or two because his bat was beginning to heat up with results like he got for the Twins last fall before breaking his arm. Also probably time to get Jeffers back to Target Field and Rortvedt to a level where he can continue his development and not be overmatched at the plate. Took a look at the plays related to the two runs scoring against Canterino. Yes, the first run doesn't score if the lead off hitter doesn't get on due to a Javier error, however, three wild pitches also played a part in that run and the second run he allowed. Without watching the game, don't know if the catcher should have saved any of those and kept a run or two off the board. Personally, I have always believed that if a pitcher has a wild pitch or error leading to a run, it should be earned. Getting whopped 10-0, the Mussels sure as heck weren't very Mighty last night. Great seeing Urbina hit as well as he has in low-A ball on his first stop in the States to begin his career. Maybe he will be a good one a few years from now. Did a double take when reading the above comment that four of our top six are on the IL. Anyone know if the three not named Lewis are close to coming back? -
Twins Minor League Report (5/14): Pitchers Have Their Way
roger replied to Allen Post's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Thanks for the report. Took a look at the box scores and see that Wichita and Cedar Rapids are both playing really great baseball, especially the Wind Surge. Expect Whitefield will stay in Wichita for a few more weeks, but then they have to get him to St. Paul as he may be the best young outfielder to join the Twins when they begin trading current players in the next month or two. Is he the most exciting player in the organization? Was also great seeing Cano with another solid outing. Speaking of Wichita outfielders, any word on the health of Celestino after getting hit by a pitch the other night? What was disturbing when looking at the box scores was seeing that Wander Javier is again hitting a buck something. I recall seeing him get hits in his first few games and assumed/hoped he was off to a better start...wrong. Its still early, but certainly time for him to get his bat going. Gotta feel for this kid, hopefully, he had some people making smart decisions with the four million bucks he got to sign. Watched the Saints on Thursday and yesterday's blast seems to confirm that after another slow start to his season, Rooker is heating up. Great to see as I recall how impressed I was by him after watching Seth's interview this past winter. Thanks again for bringing us something positive from the Twins organization! -
Game Recap: Athletics 6, Twins 1
roger replied to Thiéres Rabelo's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Did I read this right, Sano pinch hit for Rortvedt? But my main question is: Is it too early to start looking at who will be available with the first overall pick in next year's draft? I really like Royce Lewis, but it has been how many years since he was drafted and we are still waiting for him to arrive...yes, I know his injury isn't helping. Hopefully, next year they will use the #1 pick to get some help soon! -
Scouting the Cedar Rapids Kernels Hitters
roger replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Thanks for this, Seth. After a year with no minor league ball, so many of these names seem new to me. Really want Javier to finally figure it out and become the player the Twins hoped they were getting when they signed him to the highest International bonus ever...that still is, isn't it? Reading your report, seems like there are several players who could become solid major league players several years down the road. The bigger question is can any of them become top line starters for the Twins? You know who knows they sure as heck need more than a couple of stars. Do you see any of this group having that potential? -
3 Twins Prospects That Have Stood Out So Far
roger replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Was thinking along the same line as you, Cody. Get Cano up to AAA with Acosta filling his spot in Wichita. After 30 days or so in St. Paul, get Cano to Target Field to see what he can do. Count me among those who has not been impressed with Broxton's at bats while watching the Saints. Would like to see Whitefield given another couple weeks and if he continues hitting like his start, get him moving up. Would leave Cavaco where he is for at least half the season. Nothing better than to be successful when beginning your career. Really liked Greglw3's comment above, until the last comment about putting Arraez in left field. If Polanco is at short, they need Arraez at second base where he should stay for the rest of his career with the Twins...which I hope is a long, long time.- 13 replies

Which Twins Have Regressed the Most?
roger replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I continue to believe that Kepler will hit better than he has this spring. No longer believe he will be a potential HOF candidate, but would keep him as part of my core in a rebuild. Same goes for Duffey, who could turn it around any day. Unfortunately, I doubt he has options remaining to do what he did a couple years ago when sent down. Don't know what to do with Sano as his trade value has to be nearly zero. Garver needs to hit as he ain't staying with the Twins because of his defense behind the plate.- 21 replies

Twins Minor League Report (5/12): Pair of Firsts on the Farm
roger replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I to was worried he might be gone. Maybe it is the lack of a track record from what, two years not playing while serving our country. Plus, if memory serves he wasn't included at the Alternate site last summer so he was kind of out of site, out of mind. To be honest, I was surprised to see the Cubs do nothing with his fastball that was clocked around 94-95. Don't know if he has a deceptive delivery, but so many hitters just stood there looking as the ump rang'em up. On the other hand, most of them were placed right out on the corner...so maybe that pitch would work for the Twins. -
Has Jorge Polanco Returned to Form?
roger replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Encouraging that he is working back to what he was. Along with Buxton, Arraez and maybe Kepler, they could be the foundation on which the Twins can rebuild. -
Twins Minor League Report (5/12): Pair of Firsts on the Farm
roger replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
First, a complaint or request. Can you change the polls so that they don't require we sign up for Twitter? Some of us old guys have no interest in joining any of these social media sites. Watched the Saints again as I will most of the year. Thought Jax had a really nice start. Don't know if he has what it takes to be successful at the next level, but a few more starts like his first two and he should sure as heck be given a chance. Also thought Thorpe was great last night. Don't know why the Twins don't bring him back and piggy back him with one of the old vets that ain't gettin it done. Should he and Dobber be put in those roles they would save their bullpen two out of every five games thru the rotation. Flipped to Wichita for an inning mid-game to see the new ballpark. Not certain there is a lot of hitting in that lineup. I was really down on the Twins selecting Cavaco with their first pick a couple years ago after his terrible numbers in the GCL. Pleasantly surprised to the start of his season. Maybe the Twins will be rewarded for that pick should he move quickly up the ladder. -
Game Recap: White Sox 13, Twins 8

Don't have a way of watching Twins games, so checked a couple times on the ipad. As I was heading to bed was wondering, will the Twins win another game this year? -
GameDay Program Flashback: Rethinking the Farm System
roger replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
All comes to he who waits! -
Sorry about that Steve. Went back and re-read that paragraph and sure as heck sounds like someone we need to follow. Coming out of Cuba late, I see he is already 27 years old. Time to get him on the fast track so he arrives at Target Field sometime this year. With six years of control, we should have him through the entire prime years of his career.
-
Yes, the 6 straight K's is impressive. But I see from the box score that he also gave up 2 hits. Were they solid contact, hard hit balls? Or more soft hits maybe hit against the shift or something? I remember this kid's name and believe he was signed coming out of Cuba, which is why he may be a bit older. Can you guys maybe do a spotlight piece on him cause he sure as heck sounds like someone that should/maybe can be a solid piece of a future bullpen. You know who knows we need a couple, eh?

Game Recap: White Sox 9, Twins 3
roger replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Checked gameday early. Saw that Simmons may have taken them out of a big inning when he was thrown out at third for the third out on the sac fly making it 3-0 Twins. Would it have played out differently? Probably not, but we will never know. With 8 games against the Sox (5) and A's (3) in the next eight days, we should know by next Thursday whether to write this team off or if a glimmer of hope still exists. With how they have been playing expect this next week will be ugly, but they play the games for a reason. Don't know what changes this team needs to make, but one is to get Rortvedt back to AA or AAA so he can continue to develop as a hitter. The kid hasn't played a real game since the end of the 2019 season when he was at AA. With not being at the Alternate site last year, the Twins are doing him a disservice by having him up here. Gonna be interesting to see who the Twins part with this summer and what they are able to get in return. I really hope they can find a way to extend Buxton as the foundation on which this team should be built. Keep Buxton, Arraez and maybe Polanco and/or Kepler. Not real certain which pitchers they should build around, maybe aren't any currently on the team. -
Ranking the Twins Bullpen By Level of Trust
roger replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I gave this comment the 'sad' icon. That isn't because I disagree with the comment, rather, I agree and the status of the Twins bullpen is just plain 'sad.'- 13 replies

Thanks for the report, Steve. MiLB is the only baseball I will be seeing this summer, so I watched the Saints last night. Was really impressed with the quality/professionalism of the Saints tv broadcast. Everything from quality of graphics to camera coverage was so much better than any of the others I watched last week, including Omaha which is also a AAA club. What really struck me was that between innings they broadcast public service ads whereas all the stations I watched last week had dead time. Don't know what was up with Dobnak last night as the Cubs really didn't get many solid hits against him. Also didn't seem all that wild as one would expect with five walks. Don't know if he was just missing by a bit or the ump was squeezing him. One of the things I did notice this first week is seeing hits off the bats of Cavaco and Wander Javier. After such terrible results in 2019, both getting off to solid starts is heart warming. Haven't seen Cano pitch so far this spring, is he as good as the numbers seem to indicate? Looking forward to seeing Jax on the hill for the Saints tonight as they go for their first home win as a AAA club. Have a question about Gordon. He certainly was available as he only traveled 10 miles to join the Saints. Seth mentioned some type of COVID rules regarding joining the team. How long will he be unavailable?

ERA to MBA: The Many Talents of Griffin Jax
roger replied to David Youngs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Great article, thanks. When the Twins drafted Jax I knew they were getting a sharp young man. And if he is like the kids I know coming out of West Point, they also got a proven leader. Now, lets see him work his way over to Target Field this summer and give us some great starts on the mound. -
First, I cannot comment on what I have seen because FSN/BSN left HULU and I won't see any games as I refuse to go back to my cable company which had the worst service known to mankind. I was going to comment, Parker, that I recall prior years where the ball wasn't flying out of Target Field the first month of so of the year, but I see that you have already mentioned that. I also want to point out that one of our hard hitters is no longer here, thus, some of these stats were due to change. Granted, he was a lefty so that wouldn't apply to what the original article was dealing with.

Twins Minor League Week in Review: Six Down, 114 To Go
roger replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
So to get a guy from AA or A ball to the big league club, the Twins will have him report to St. Paul, play in one game, then promote across the river? If this is true, it is another decision by MLB that is more than a head scratcher. Hopefully, they won't figure out how teams will beat the system and then require X games at AAA before being promoted. -
Twins Minor League Week in Review: Six Down, 114 To Go
roger replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Thanks for a great first report, Seth. Was wondering if roster size has been increased to account for the extra pitchers? Also, with the Saints having only 8 position players for their second game Sunday, have moves been made so they have a full roster tonight? -

Twins Minor League Report (5/9): Double Headers Galore
roger replied to Nash Walker's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Going to comment mostly to see how this works at this brand spanking new site. Was really looking forward to see Canterino get his first start. See he did well, very well, although a bit surprised that he only threw 3 innings. Also a bit surprised he isn't at AA. Nice first outing by Winder, who I understand the Twins have high hopes for. Will second the above comments about Whitefield. Considering he played softball until shortly before signing, we knew it could take some time for him to adjust to hardball. Hopefully, this is an indication of what is to come because this kid can flat out run and plays fantastic defense. Also good to see Miranda starting the season on a high note. -
