Is it true that Chargois has 12 strikeouts of the 13 outs he has recorded since moving up to AAA? Maybe a couple more weeks of this and we will see him at Target Field.

Article: Twins Minor League Leaderboard (through 4/16)
roger replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thanks Seth. Would say the most exciting numbers I see are Stewart's strikeouts and Meyer's walks, or lack thereof. And of all the starters at Rochester, are Berrios and Duffey pitching third and fourth best right now? Not a slam at either, but a statement of how well Meyer and Dean have pitched their first two times out. Also, is Cutera a legit prospect?- 21 replies

Could most of the questions about Berrios and Meyer be answered by all the cancellations Rochester had this first weekend? Not pitching for both could be part of the reason Berrios was wild and Meyer was used in 'long' relief.

In answer to your question, Seth...If it ain't broke, don't fix it! I love this Red Wings team. Great combo of AAAA players, who could help the Twins shoud they be needed for short call ups, and several top prospects. Best combination I recall.

Article: Twins Minor League Report (4/7/16): Opening Night
roger replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thanks to Seth and everyone for what should be another exciting year down on the farm. Don't know a lot of these kids at Cedar Rapids and Fort Myers as well as some of the older prospects we have all gotten to know well. Looking forward to hearing about them daily guys, thanks!- 23 replies

Article: Twins Option Seven Players To Minor League Camp
roger replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Are you enjoying your time in Florida this spring, Seth? A bit unusual, but is unseasonably warm back here. Is Strong the leading candidate to be waived off the 40-man roster when/if Abad makes the team as a bullpen lefty? And have you had a chance to see much of Vielma? Is his defense as good as everyone says?- 14 replies

Article: TD Top Prospects: #6 Stephen Gonsalves
roger replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I keep hearing about his pitches needing work. This write-up makes me more of a believer that his best comparison is Brian Duensing. And that isn't #6 in my book. With two good pitches, isn't he really destined to be a reliever? -
Article: TD Top Prospects: #7 Jorge Polanco
roger replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Won't Nunez start to get expensive in 2017? Sure looks like a spot opens up for Polanco as his replacement on the 25-man roster. Then let them work out who is playing when and where.- 53 replies

Article: Twins Daily Top 20 Prospect Countdown: 16-20
roger replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
My question would be how these five rate against other organization's #16-#20? Considering all five have a real chance of making it to the big leagues, with at least two potentially being very good starters (Rosario and Vielma, in my opinion), I would think we compare favorably. -
If we are going down to A ball, I would put Gordon at second. Expect this switch will be made as it becomes clearer that Vielma is the Twins shortstop of the future.

Article: Max Power: Assessing Kepler's Timeline
roger replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins should have several desirable assets other teams may want/need as the calendar turns to July. Plouffe, Arcia, and one or two of Nolasco, Santana, Milone or Hughes. Unless there is a wave of injuries, that is when I see spots opening up and Kepler, Berrios and even Vargas making their permanent move to the Twin Cities. -
Article: Finding 2016's Twins Breakout Prospect
roger replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
In total agreement with how high of a ceiling I see Thorpe having. Expect he will be throwing in extended spring training and join either Cedar Rapids or Fort Myers in June. Is that where you would see him going next summer, Seth?- 22 replies

Article: Finding 2016's Twins Breakout Prospect
roger replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Can a break out prospect be someone who hits .275 or so at AA? After hitting almost that well at Fort Myers, if Engelb Vielma can hit for a .275 average with say a .325 OBP and 35-40 stolen bases he could put his hat in the ring as that breakout player. If Vielma is as good defensively as everyone says and hits this well at AA, he could be staking his claim to be the Twins shortstop for the next decade beginning sometime in 2017. Could he become a Twins all-star shortstop, kind of similar to Zoilo Versalles? And what do the Twins do with Gordon if Vielma is their shortstop of the future? Could Gordon become Dozier's replacement as his contract comes to an end in a couple years?- 22 replies

Article: Twins Winter League Update
roger replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
After a dip following his first few games, Kennys Vargas is heating up in Puerto Rico. Expect his chances of making the Twins out of spring training are slim, yet, he can provide insurance should someone not pan out or there be injuries. Will be great to see him have a huge early part of the season at Rochester as I still see him as being a big part of the Twins future.- 26 replies

Article: Get To Know Shortstop Engelb Vielma
roger replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
[He's one level ahead of Gordon. I have to wonder how that will all play out down the road.] That could be very interesting come 2017-2018. Isn't that about the time Dozier's contract expires? Does the Twins future include a double play combo of Gordon and Vielma? Sure looks like it to me. Also want to wish you a Merry Christmas Seth. Thanks for all your work you do to keep us informed with the kids that are the Twins future. -
Article: What Holes Still Must Be Filled?
roger replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
No one is talking about Ryan Pressly. He was an effective reliever last year until injured. Personally, I see his injuries as one of the reasons the Twins didn't get the WC. Is he being forgotten because the injury is expected to linger into 2016? Not only do I see Duffey as a definite starter, I see him as becoming our best starter. Sure, he doesn't throw serious heat, but his curveball is just plain filthy. I can see him as a legit ACE by the time the playoffs roll around. -
Don't waivers first go thru the same league, ie, the AL? Then move on to the National League?

I am making a prediction regarding Mauer. Should his numbers/performance deteriorate further in 2016, I expect he will approach the Twins to negotiate a settlement for the remaining two years on his contract and retire. What the settlement looks like would be interesting. I don't understand what has happened to his hitting, but I expect he is more disappointed with his performance than all of us. He may opt to retire rather than continue with that disappointment.

Have a question about Kepler. The Lookouts season ends in a few days, will he be called up to the Twins for the last dozen games this year? Considering he will likely begin 2016 in AAA, service time shouldn't be a problem. Add that he is already on the 40-man roster, he doesn't need to be added posing a problem with exposing another player to the Rule 5 draft. So the barriers to a callup are limited...will he get the call?

We should be hearing about September callups today, or do you already know Seth? Expect Darnell is a done deal. On 40-man roster, check! Pitching great, especially the last part of the season, check! Has experience working out of the bullpen, check! If he travels on Tuesday, should be available on Wednesday for some work out of the bullpen. So do you think he will be here then, after the Red Wings season, or not at all?
