    Thanks Matt. In your one inning example, the strikeouts were 33.3% and the walks 16.67%, with a difference of 16.67%. So the percentage you referred to is the difference? In the case of Winder, his strikeouts were 24.4% higher than the walks based on all hitters faced?

    I need some help, Matt. For the life of me, I don't understand how your K-BB% is calculated and what it means. For example: Winder had 13BB and 80 K, which you state is a 24.4 K-BB%. Gipson-Long had 27BB and 137K, which you indicate was 25.6 K-BB%. I guess I don't understand how this is calculated as they are almost identical, yet, Winder struck out 2 more than 6x as many as he walked with Gipson-Long striking out 2 more than 5x. To my old 'California math', Winder would have a better strike out percentage, albeit in less innings. And both were substantially better than both Sands and Balazovic.

    A year ago Jose Miranda wasn't added to the 40-man and exposed to the Rule 5 draft. Earlier this week, he was named Minor League Hitter of the Year with many of us wondering why he isn't in a Twins uni tonight. A year ago Louie Varland had just completed his summer of doing nothing (I know he probably worked his tail off, but didn't play in a single game) and left wondering what his future would be. Today he is named the Minor League Pitcher of the Year after an astonishing season. Will he become the best player to ever have played for Lunch McKensie at Concordia? Yes, I understand that Josh Winder's season was cut short by the line drive and shoulder problem. But looking at his numbers, he is the only pitcher in this group of a dozen pitchers with a sub 1.00 WHIP...and he did it at AA/AAA. Furthermore, his K:BB ratio of more than 6:1 is better than all of them, except Albers, and much better than most. I know if I were voting on this honor, after seeing several of his games at Wichita and that first gem in St. Paul, he would be at the top of my list. When next year's Players of the Year are announced will we also be surprised that they will have seemed to come out of nowhere?

    I continue to believe that Balazovic has 'it' and the potential to be a true ACE. Will he? Remains to be seen, but he sure didn't step up and get the Wind Surge a win in game one of their series. But when he was in his mid-summer stretch he was pitching as well as anyone in minor league baseball. With that said, based on the games I watched this summer I believe that Winder is the top pitching prospect in the organization. Well, maybe except for Canterino, but we didn't get to see much of him this summer. Is unlikely Canterino could make it to the Twins before 2023 and Balazovic won't be ready before next late summer. But Winder could be someone to step in when a starter is needed in early summer...assuming agreeable health.

    Whereas Miranda is screaming call me up, six of the other 7 all appear to be long shots for a sustained big league career (Rooker is already here). Unless I am mistaken, several are Rule 5 eligible and doubt there will be room to add more than Miranda...from this group. Of course I could have written the exact same thing as above about Miranda two years ago. Is there another future star in this group? Expect the seven young men listed believe there is. Would be curious to know if anyone from the TD staff believes any of this group will be added to the 40-man this year, other than Miranda.

    Not seeing the Twins play this year, I don’t have a clue how well Gordon played when in center? Is he an adequate backup? Could he be a solid starter if Buxton is injured or traded? Expect the FO will go into the offseason planning to compete in 2023 and hoping that if lots goes right, they may surprise next year. Gordon’s role in the middle infield and center will be a key decision in that process. will they bring in a shortstop? Who is their #1 backup in center, Gordon or Celestino? Lots of questions?

    Interesting discussion. Like others, was really impressed with his bat in 2020. But like most of this team, don’t know what the heck happened this year. Question several comments above that there is lots of room on the 40-man. Aren’t they 8 over right now? Expect there are going to be several very good prospects who won’t make it come November. Will the Twins lose the next Baddoo in this year’s Rule 5?

    What a pleasant surprise Ober has been. May be less work for the FO this winter than thought a couple months ago.

    The Wichita sweep is a surprise. Did not realize that Julien had that many walks and well over .400 OBP.

    Should be interesting discussions in the FO, however, no where near as interesting as solving the starting pitching problems. I expect the Twins will/should begin the process by signing one top late inning guy. Not picking up Colome's option (it is a team option, isn't it?) would give them a big part of the cost to bring in late inning pitcher X. Combine X with Duffey and a healthy Rogers and you have a nice 8th and 9th inning trio. Alcala and Thielbar make it a fivesome which stretches it back to the seventh inning. Expect Gant will be in the pen as a long reliever, which he should be effective as. Speaking of Rogers and Duff, I expect they will have discussions about extensions with each...or at least they should. Can see the remaining two spots manned by some combination of the guys they have in house along with a couple AAAA types picked up over the winter. Who knows, maybe they can find lightening in a bottle like with Wistler two years ago. Moran has options. What about Minaya, Garza, Farrell and Coloumbe? If they do, expect several of this group could begin their seasons in St. Paul with one or two filling out the Twins pen. They also expect Cody Stashak to be healthy next year, don't they? Assuming he returns to pitch like 2019, he could be one of the leaders for the last two spots.

    Wichita comes home in a tough position. Time to win one tonight. Miranda is just plain amazing. Is he the best hitter in all of minor league baseball? At least this year? Big decision for the Twins this winter as they try to figure out how to open a spot for him. It wasn't in the minors, but another excellent start by Joe Ryan. No reason not to pencil him into next year's rotation in probably the #3 slot. Hell of a trade for two months of Cruz' playing time. Although there are some decisions that have us scratching our heads, this FO has done a fairly good job with their deadline trades.

    Am so disappointed that Baldelli wasn't able to find a way to get Maggi into a game. Also believe that many of you are shortchanging Jax. Lets remember that he didn't pitch at all last summer and the number of innings prior are minimal. This young man will continue to develop into a solid starting pitcher. Granted, he may not become a top of the order starter, but I will be surprised if he doesn't have a long and successful big league career. Hopefully, it is with the Twins.

    With Balazovic on the mound for the Wind Surge and the Kernels facing the powerful Quad Cities nine, would we win one and lose one would have expected the win to be from Wichita. I guess that's why they play the games. With an off year last summer and a late start, seemed to me that Balazovic tired following that tremendous streak of four or five games without giving up a run. Expect his ceiling remains very high, just gonna take a couple more years for him to grow into that big time major league starter. No one knows the future, but we may not see him at Target Field until 2023. Wichita cannot afford to come home down 0-2, so tonight becomes a MUST game for them and Cole Sands.

    Thanks for all the work you and the guys at TD have done all summer. And yes, it seems like this season has flown bye way too fast. For some reason, I thought the Central Division AA (Texas League) was going to be a playoff between the top two teams in both divisions. Is that Wichita and NW Arkansas? Or did they make a change and it is only a North Division championship? Quad Cities is going to be a tough hill to climb for Cedar Rapids. Hopefully, Varland can get them off to a good start tonight. Also will help if those four or five hitters that have been on fire continue pounding the baseball. I know there was a DSL and the Twins had several of their recent signees playing there. Will you be doing some type of recap about them later this month/fall? Thanks again, Seth.

    The best news for Maggi is that he is collecting around $3,000 per game, compared with probably close to that a month while playing for the Saints. Expect he will see his first action in Chicago where they are playing under NL rules. Will he pinch hit for a pitcher? Will he pinch run for someone, then stay in a game? May be the biggest news we are waiting to hear this coming week...well, that and whether or not Ryan will actually make his start come Wednesday? Had to be interesting for the Twins to be facing Berrios yesterday. Especially so for those guys he came up with through the minors, Sano, Buxton, Polanco and others. The other exciting news these last couple weeks will be to see if Miranda gets the call. We don't have a clue what the Twins plan on doing, hopefully, he will get called up the last week to get a feel for what his future holds.

    Wow the year is over for those kids playing minor league ball. Well, not for the Kernels and Wind Surge. Guess the Saints also have a couple weeks of non-playoff baseball remaining, whatever that is. Wonderful day in Wichita where the Wind Surge finished in first place, 18 games over .500. Great performance Sunday by both of the players obtained for Jose Berrios, who also had a big day in Toronto. Martin going 2-2 with three walks is exciting. Also like Whitefield's day at 2-4 with a couple stolen bases. OK, he was also thrown out once and had an error, but for someone who hadn't touched a hardball until he was 17, I like his long-term potential. He is making progress and just may be with the Twins in say, 2023. And the Kernels left little doubt that they wanted to keep playing next week, putting up a 11-0 butt kicking of Peoria who I believe was the last place team. Nice to see some of the big names have big days from Julien, Sabato, Wallner and Isola. Only problem is they now get to face Quad Cities who I believe won roughly two of three from Cedar Rapids this season. But heck, anything can happen in a short series, right? Do we know if it is three games or five? Its good there remains some baseball for the TD team to write about. But with the regular season ending, thanks to all who brought us these updates every morning as we shied away from reading about what the Twins did the previous day. Thanks guys, it is appreciated.

    Perhaps the biggest news for Sabato wasn't his home run, rather, he had 5 plate appearances and DID NOT strike out. Certainly appears to be taking a step forward after moving up to Iowa. Noticed your comment about Julien's power surge after joining the Kernels. Could it be partially due to the ballpark in Cedar Rapids compared with the ballpark in Fort Myers? Plus, the Florida State League has always been considered a pitchers league. Hopefully, the Kernels all have a big day today and put themselves into the playoffs.

    Who would have had Jake Odorizzi on this list a few years ago? Probably not anyone. That's the trade I want to see this year, a middle minor league prospect (or two) for a youngish starter who steps in and does very well.

    Interesting, thanks Seth. Not certain that 'games' is the best stat to use in this case. We don't know if some of those guys played a lot of games where they merely pinch hit for the pitcher in the National League? Wouldn't at bats, or even better plate appearances be a better judge? Expect the results would be the same, but the variances may be different...or not!

    Would like to ask one question of everyone bellyaching about losing either of these guys. Who on the 40-man roster would you have taken off to protect either or both of these players? And in doing so there is a good ch ance they would be gone.

    Great move by the Twins. Have believed they should keep four or five AAAA types in St. Paul for multiple years. Solid players the Saints fans can follow long term. Maggi could be one of them.

    One player we all should be excited about is Celestino. Disappointing with the Twins in a premature call up, way premature, it appears his big league struggles has paid dividends back at AAA. Should be key member of Twins teams in 2022 and beyond. should be exciting finish for the Kernels, unfortunately, their record against Quad Cities is ugly.

    Great article, Seth, thanks. It appears the perception of losing Baddoo is magnified by his play against the Twins as opposed to the rest of the league. Soooo happy they didn’t lose Miranda, who just may be a future star. Gonna be lots of tough decisions this November with so many marginal guys on the current 40-man, plus being way over with all the 60-day guys.

    Thanks, David. Should be exciting for Kernels fans as they battle for that second playoff spot. Hopefully, they will join the Wind Surge to play meaningful baseball the next week or so. The Mussels have been eliminated, haven't they? And the Saints will continue playing without playoffs, right? Miranda has had an unbelievable summer. Hopefully, it will end by joining the Twins for their last series or two of the year. Give him a first hand taste of the big leagues and a few at bats against the best pitchers in baseball. The FCL Twins have a terrible record, losing nearly two of every three games they played. Yet, find myself excited about the top three guys in yesterday's lineup, Rodriguez, Miller and Rosario. They are all 18 or 19 years old? Could all of them make it to the Twins three to five years from now?

    As the season comes to an end I find myself wondering which is best for an organization, a minor league system with teams winning and a few championships or teams with so-so records, but a a star or two on each team putting up eye popping numbers? Successful teams doesn't necessarily mean that the system will provide players to the big league club, players who become solid starters or all-stars. But it does give those players who move up the experiences related to winning. So I expect the answer most would give is you want both. Considering all of the Twins full-season teams have winning records this year, they certainly are winning throughout the organization. And with players like Miranda, Martin, Royce Lewis (injured), Winder, Balazovic, Duran (injured), Canterino (injured), Enlow (injured), SWR, and others, they have more than their share of top prospects. So this year at least, the answer for the Twins is BOTH. Will that mean the Twins will also win two or three years from now and beyond? We are gonna have to wait and see!
