    Brandon Barnes has hit 25 HR and plays all 3 OF spots. Lightning in a bottle guy if Cave continues to be unable to hit his weight?

    As 4th OFs go, imo, Cave is pretty solid in covering all 3 spots, but I would agree that he's not going to win any gold gloves. Kepler seems to the eye to be, at the least, above average in CF, so he deserves the nod over Cave. I think we get easily spoiled by Buxton's play and incredible range, as he makes it fairly easy on the corner guys to only have to more adequately cover a smaller area of the OF.

    Never has been a great defender. But I'm willing to bet via the eye test and the stats, particularly his OF range and his power production, will suggest that he's just not the same player since before the ankle injury.

    I get what you're saying, but Roger's arm is bound to fall off at his current rate of appearances plus the times he's warmed up in the bullpen and not used- as apparently the only one Rocco trusts to close out the close ones- he's going to end up with arm fatigue. As of now, he's only 17 innings less than his career high set last year- and it's only the 3rd of August. And look how well Rogers has pitched his last 4 games.... AFTER.... getting 7 days off from his previous last appearance vs. the Yankees. It would be nice to being able to have Rogers at full effectiveness in October by giving him a few more 7 day respites in August and September.

    Is there still some lack of clarity about the extent of Buck's injury? FWIW, Bremer classified the injury on Friday as, in effect, a separated shoulder. My experience has always been that a separation is worse than a dislocation, which takes much longer time to heal, and sometimes never does fully heal. Is your information on the injury confirmed by the team? (In which case, we can breathe a little easier!)

    I guess based on today's developments, the Giants are winning this trade in a romp- for at least half of August....

    I'll take it. Let's get him up to Rochester for a couple games and see if he can quickly adapt to short relief pen duty. Velo can probably spike up towards 98.

    Any special reason why Jeffers has sat for two straight days?. He was batting clean-up on Friday. What a first four in that Pensacola batting order when he's in the game....

    7 straight very tough and important games starting on Monday. It's probably too much to expect Romo and Rogers to finish all 7 of them? Or for Smeltzer to throw 6 scoreless innings on Friday against Cleveland? Or for Duffey to put up 4 zeroes over the next 7 games? Or for May to even throw one complete inning? This turn of events sure doesn't look like a blessing in the short run. Rather, it now seems quite possible that that 3 game lead might be gone by this time next Sunday night.

    This is right about how I see it. IL for Perez or BP. His next start against the Braves is probably make or break for him. After that, he is scheduled to start against the Brewers a week from Tuesday, the SAME day that Pineda could first pitch coming off of the IL list.

    5 singles in 23 ABs with 8 Ks probably made for an easy decision for Rocco to give Eddie the night off and save him for possible PH duty.

    it still is an interesting "What If?"----- if----- the Buxton injury had happened before Wednesday, would the Twins have given Davis a shot for 10 days.... and given up on making the trade for Dyson?

    I hope that proposal comes to fruition. I still think Drew Butera would have been a better option for this bullpen- and most of the pens of the last decade- than many of the arms that have dragged out there.

    You forgot our newest shiny option for CF for the next 10 days? Brandon Barnes just went yard for Rochester, hitting his 25th HR of the season and now OPSing near .900.

    Good thing I'm not a GM, but hopefully, $8M in bonuses for games played (plus other incentives, like Gold Gloves, MVP votes, etc. are hopefully helpful incentives to stick with the Twins---- A real Win-Win for both sides). Since he has largely solved his previous problems at the plate, just his presence in ball games has made an enormous difference in the outcomes of games. The team is playing around a .700 clip with him in the lineup.... and around .333 when he's not. Get er done in the offseason, FalVine.

    Ha! I think that proposal is still on the table... but hasn't been finalized for certain? Good Lord, they have to think this through.... the games will be averaging close to 4 hours with 14 man pitching staffs and all kinds on new "Specialists" coming out of their ears.

    Ahhh, I seeee... preparing for the NEW Specialist role when the rosters go to 26 in 2020? (If so, I suspect he might be looking at a pay cut )
