  1. Both Arcia and Cola are Backyard Baseball ridiculous right now. After his 4 for 4 day, Cola is only batting .600. Wonder when Meyer gets the promotion to Roc? Maybe right when Gibson gets the promotion to the Twins?
  2. Yup. The way DicknBert and Whatshername describe it, Mastro is lucky to still be among the living after hitting a ball off his shin. That being said, Jamey Carroll is the one guy left on the roster who looks to somewhat ably (hey, everything at 39 is somewhat ably!) jump into the leadoff spot should Hicks continue to struggle.
  3. Scott Diamond 5IP 6H 4ER 1Error
  4. Tyler Duffey 6 innings of No-No. Buxton is smacking the cover off the ball.
  5. Watch the waiver wire tomorrow. There's no way Show puts up with that noise.
  6. Morneau said as much in the post-game interview. And good call on Hick's K struggles. They have nothing to do with the umpiring. I am most surprised that there are people out there surprised that Hicks is struggling. No need to panic or write the kid off as a bust. There are major growing pains for most players to make the jump for good. If/when he goes down to AAA will most likely end up being just another part of the maturation process and in the end, a good thing.
  7. I dunno, I just learned a lot more about reading comprehension and building my word power list- all thanks to The Wise One- "Knowhere"
  8. I get where you're going here. I've seen it before rather frequently on Gardy's watch. Unless Parm strained or pulled something on that 9th inning catch last night, it makes no sense. That was the first game this year where Parmelee looked comfortable and locked in at the plate.
  9. Yesterday, as I stated before the roster move: I give the Twins FO credit for nipping this one quickly (although Swarzak's effectiveness coming off the DL is itself, a major question mark). There is something currently wrong with Robertson (mechanical or health-related) and that's after the fact that he wasn't a ML-ready quality RP in the first place, as demonstrated last year.
  10. Yeah, missed that, hard to keep up with all the day games. I'll amend that to "at least twice a week." Still, Parmelee has a little break-out game last night, I'd like to see if he can build on it
  11. Yup. The guy who finally is starting to heat up is shown his way to the bench and now Hicks get thrown in against the Oriole ace. Wouldn't hurt to get Carroll into the starting lineup at least once a week either.
  12. Yes. Given the severe drop-off in the quality of the Twins bullpen after the first 3, putting any one but Duensing (foolishly used up earlier), Burton (not available) or Perkins in that critical 8th inning situation was bound to blow up in Gardy's face. The other options are clearly not ready, not good enough, or both, for repeated high leverage situations. Robertson, for example, appears to be hanging on to his MLB roster spot by a thread. There was very little in his performance last season or this spring that merited that roster spot. There were other offseason FA acquisition options available, Ryan chose to sit this one out, too. It's sad to look at AAA and AA and see very little in the way of left-handed relief help unless Perez somehow gets it together.
  13. Lee looks to become yet another reason to make the trip to Cedar Rapids. Did Mauer give you any timetable on Berrios and Kepler?
  14. SB, between the number of routine fielding plays botched and continual low relays to first that fail the eye test, I gotta think that between these facts available to all of us and our own lying eyes, Mr Brooks's fielding percentages numbers and Jorgenwests scouting reports, we have a SS who clearly posesses good tools- but has yet to put it all together as a consistently acceptable MLB no-bat, good-glove SS- and the clock is ticking on a career 7-year minor leaguer for putting it all together sooner rather than later.
  15. Uhh, I'll try again. Mr Brooks asked where the mythmaking happened on how Florimon got the label as a great defensive SS. I responded that the Twins FO has been high on him since he was acquired a year ago and have clearly pushed for him as the only legitimate candidate for the job once Dozier had his setback. Then, seemingly out of left field, we had this "arrogant incendiary comment": and then this: To which I responded with this clearly not arrogant incendiary comment: "Jorgenwest's evidence supports what we all see in his areas of deficiency- and what the FO has chosen to either- outright ignore- or expect significant improvement over what his career has been thus far. Can you deny the fact that the Twins made the decision- right or wrong- come hell or high water- on Florimon as THE starting SS for opening day, 2013- back in the late summer of 2012- all based on a rather erratic set of performances in the field and a continued very anemic bat?" Correct me if I'm mistaken, but I believe I "presented reasonable backup to my position."
  16. I believe this qualifies as editorializing: Feel free to look up the meaning of editorializing. I'll wait.
  17. Jorgenwest's evidence supports what we all see in his areas of deficiency- and what the FO has chosen to either- outright ignore- or expect significant improvement over what his career has been thus far. Can you deny the fact that the Twins made the decision- right or wrong- come hell or high water- on Florimon as THE starting SS for opening day, 2013- back in the late summer of 2012- all based on a rather erratic set of performances in the field and a continued very anemic bat?
  18. 1) No nitpicking here, my observation about your strawman statement and what exactly should have happened in IMO, in the given situation, were crystal clear. 2) "Conventional wisdom" is often put in quotes because skepticism surrounds the conclusions reached- for good, evidence-based reasons. 3) I am not out by myself in the tall grass on this one. Common sense and a collection of 2 seasons worth of data strongly suggest that Perkins is clearly the best reliever on the staff and needs to pitch in a larger percentage of high leverage situations for the Twins to improve the bottom line results. The Yankees understood this with Rivera, who frequently throughout his career has come into such situations in the 8th inning and then went on to close out the game.
  19. I wasn't aware that Lee was being moved into the rotation. Does this kid deserve a write-up and merit potential comer-status on a possible quick move up the prospect lists? He seems to have some decent upside- 22 YO, Lefty (!), Big and Lanky, 90MPH velocity, HI K% and K/BB of 4.25. What's not to like? Am I missing something here, Seth?
  20. 1) I haven't seen anyone write anything about "assuming" anything. It's about probabilities here. You were correct in your previous sentence, Davis is the best hitter in baseball in the first week of the season, isn't it better strategy to have your best option out there to get their best hitter out? 2) Data please to back up your assertion of alleged "importance" of "role familiarity"? How about managers get "familiar" with leverage levels? 3) I nominate Glen Perkins to pitch the 8th and 9th. Burton would then be available to close today's game, if needed.
  21. But , but, that would be a clear and heretical violation of the (unwritten) Laws of Baseball.
  22. 3 questions to be begged from the Red Wings game 1) Is there more to this story on Ramon Ortiz hitting 3 batters? 2) Any grudges left over from his departure from the organization? 3) Is it too soon to thank him for giving someone else a chance to catch in Rochester?
  23. The "press" doesn't even question him much on this anymore, as they know it's . When queried on this topic, he typically gives the questioner a look of condescending derision and either he hands him the lineup card or cajoles him with eloquencies such as: "Come on, that's simple stuff! Gotta save the closer for only save situations!"
