  1. Hey, you said 'a couple' of thoughts. Anyway, how do you feel about the cogent insights of Whatshername, you know, the latest female version of Robby Inkydinkydoo?
  2. JC -Are you sure it's not having him to all to yourself in selfish close proximity that's clouding your judgement a little? If he's close to a Harper/Trout prodigy, the "world" will demand that you "share"!
  3. Yup! Always go with the clear-cut best talent available. Anyone remember the Portland Trailblazers in 1984 desperately needing a center because they had a surplus of guards?
  4. Hard to believe Brian Dinkelman and Doug Bernier don't get you all tingly. This is what it is and we're going to have to lump it until Santana and Rosario are ready. Hello 2015.
  5. 1) As posted elsewhere, "Angel Morales isn't exactly blocking Buxton's progression. If Buxton keeps this up another month or so and shows he's really ready, it would be foolish not to put Buxton onto the same team with his future teammates, Rosario and Sano." The gloves are what are holding Rosario and Sano back, that is not going to be an issue for Buxton. 2) Given the high draft position, it would be best to get the best upside player possible, any time you have the chance to get a future multi-year All Star, if not future HOFer, it would be foolish to draft down strictly for need.

  7. Might have to hurry up to actually go see Buxton playing at Cedar Rapids, at this rate, the young man looks to be punching that ticket to Ft Myers very soon.
  8. Since I know they all read this, consider it done.
  9. This. There were plenty of LH options in the offseason, FA options, trade options, waiver options, even Rule 5 options. Minor league signee Eric Bedard even got a 3 inning save against the Rangers last week ( I think he's still in the Astro rotation, though ,either way, I wish the Twins could have gotten him for either role- and for peanuts, oversight with low downside risk).
  10. lol My sons call him Triple D (Devil-Doll-Doumit)
  11. Remember that the OP is probably in an "extra-spirited" mood and location for editorializing.
  12. I must have missed it, when did the sympathy call come into baseball, even homer Dick admitted as much that he was clearly safe.
  13. Agreed, the way he was going I would have left him in too, but the braintrust in the dugout was having trouble in deciding how many 8th inning fat Correia meatballs indicated that it was finally time for a change.
  14. His 8th inning numbers were only rumored to be better than the stats indicate, given that he goes this far in a game about as often as the moon is blue.
  15. Runner was clearly safe on replay
  16. Wasn't he one of those guys that was better than his numbers, too?
  17. Speaking of "eye tests", based on Mauer's performance at the plate, and behind it, it might be time for him to see an ophthamologist.
  18. His numbers say different, or people around here are getting used to a pretty lousy standard for acceptable (as I pointed out previously and as H2o so eloquently stated): As soon as you find a better option (Maybe Hernandez?), it's time to say goodbye to the Horseplay Hound.
  19. Duffey was the "2" in the 1-2 RP punch drafted from Rice University (along with 2nd round pick, JT Chargois- who is ranked as the #11 Twins prospect). The experiment begins this year with a few of these relievers getting their shot at becoming starters. So far I think it's fair to say that the experiment rates a success!
  20. Swarzak's "live fastball" on Sunday was down a concerning 3MPH from 2012 and only around 89MPH. And although his first performance was critical to the Twins success on Sunday- and is obviously a much better option than Robertson- it wasn't like he was exactly dominating out there (2 hits and a BB in 1.1 IP). A good long reliever should be a guy that can consistently do exactly what Pedro Hernandez did on Sunday- pitch well enough in spot and emergency starting situations to give your team multiple chances to steal some extra wins- when the matchups suggest you should lose. Swarzak is simply HORRIBLE as a starter (5.79 ERA/.300 OBA/ 1.51 WHIP) and the numbers confirm that he is 2 shades below mediocre as a reliever. The Twins should most definitely look to upgrade this spot in the bullpen when they make their next legitimate run. Regarding the team bullpen numbers so far, they have been very good, but there is an element of luck involved here, as there are concerning peripherals that eventually will hurt. High BB%, mediocre GB%, unsustainably low BABIP (all well below their mediocre BP numbers from 2012). If Harden and Perez prove to be effective along with continued strong performances from the proven solid core group (Perkins, Burton, Duensing) and Roenicke and/or Pressly (nice surprises thus far) and Fien(?)- well then you might really have something to write about- a relevant Twins team in the second half.
  21. I wasn't questioning pulling Duffey, that was the prudent move to be sure. Throwing Montanez in there from right off the plane from Ft Myers was what I found "interesting", and as it turned out, made for a crazy debut inning for him (3 walks and a WP run scored).
  22. If Plouffie decides he's destined to become the human pin cushion much longer, I think a spot at 3B is going to open up soon. Seriously though, if anyone could handle continually rotating spot starts between SS, 2B and 3B 5-6 times a week- and doing it competently- it would be Carroll.
  23. Mauer wastes no time in putting Josue Montanez into a no-hit game in the 8th inning.
