  1. In this case, one might want to question the integrity and power of his pathos...

  3. Does that description hold for purgatory, as well? Given how strongly this colorfully rich descriptor of baseball hell resembles Gardy's reaction to Correia's 8th inning meltdown- coupled with his contract extension predicament and your "threadbare" forecast of imminent SP implosion, I think he is, and will be, often in a similar place in 2013.
  4. I doubt the Twins PR crew has anyone that speaks French. "Goodwill" is an English vocabulary word apparently above their pay grade.
  5. This. I thought it was obvious that the Braintrust was trying desperately NOT to warm Burton up if they could possibly help it.
  6. And uhh, Sickels was wrong, Dozier was a complete flop, he consistently failed to meet expectations and Carroll produced precisely as projected he would.
  7. Nope, but in this case, he does (or doesn't, given his use of unnamed scouts to so poorly evaluate a player).
  8. Omar Vizquel begs to differ (he AVERAGED 2.6WAR/YR from ages 29 to 40)
  9. Sorry, invoking WWII absolutist strawmen arguments is an automatic loser. And so is veering past the obvious point of the matter- a tin-earred PR department of a team in severe need of providing it's discouraged fan base with a Goodwill Transplant
  10. I concur and certainly the OP made a somewhat unwarranted and frustrated over the top dismissal of the situation. I just hope the mission of fact determination doesn't last as long as the first Starship Enterprise scheduled mission- or worse- the long, frustrating, fleeting flirtation with starter status for Alexi Casilla.
  11. To answer your question cryptically, "it depends", does Mastro's walker have wheels on it? The way DicknBert and co. went on and on, it sounded like his shin bruise was possibly career-ending.
  12. I'm pulling for him too. I think the problem comes down to the Twins being fine rostering all of 4 UTIL MIs when one should be enough. It's important to remember that Dozier was a 4 year college player, ie, not drafted until after his senior year when some Twins evaluator thought he was worth a shot in the 8th round. His minor league career was very undistinguished until 2011- when he split time at A and AA, ie, playing at age 24 against players typically a year, and often even more, younger than him. If the Twins get a LNP-type player out of him at UTIL, I think they would be pleased for a reasonable return on a modest investment. I would have been thrilled with a Keppinger signing- they're paying Carroll almost as much this year to sit on the bench as a human insurance policy.
  13. I'm somewhat surprised that Mauer is still in their catching and not DHing. Mauer's catching so far this year is at a level we used to complain about when Doumit did the same. Plus, he took a few pitches to the body yesterday and Sunday.
  14. The Horse is my guy for 2013, until of course, as horses are prone to do, he breaks down.
  15. Based on the quote in current context, you had to do A LOT of digging, and the unnamed esteemed Sickels "scouts" have since retreated to the tall grass in embarrassment.
  16. Aw c'mon, let's be fair. They proved in the offseason that they weren't completely heartless...after jacking up the season ticket prices in 2011- their Big Idea promotion to drum up season ticket sales in 2013 after two disastrous seasons- wasn't to bring prices back down commensurate with the drop in payroll....No, the Twins went All The Way in their corporate niceness and empathy for the fans that built them their playground- with a whopping 10% discount in concessions....!(I still guffaw when I see that they actually think this is a good marketing bullet point in their commercials).
  17. Yup. Has it come to the point with Burton's alleged fragility that perhaps Gardy was gambling on trying to let Jarrod skip a day of warming up and possibly having to make an appearance in the 8th?
  18. The organization maybe has thought highly of Dozier (with little supporting evidence, who voted for that Minor League POY, anyway?). Virtually noone else with professional evaluative skills has done so, and there has been little supporting evidence save one above-average year in the minors from his career thus far. If the organization simply has a blind spot about the extreme need for strengthening the MI and Catcher positions, that still falls under the definition of "not caring enough" to fully consider the years of futility in the MI and is hardly cynical on my part ( I certainly won't speak for Dave on this).
  19. How long did they stick with Dozier last year? Seriously, until Mastro gets off the crutches. (If he can't go 100%, why wasn't he just DLd? Mind-boggling). Anyone nostalgic yet for a return of Clete Thomas? Certainly not me, but he has started out decently in Roc.
  20. One might even say they "either didn't care or didn't try very hard to do better."
  21. Yes. He's a proven veteran, making well-deserved decent veteran money. Right now in this season of FO puntage, he's become just a very costly insurance policy. I stand by my opinion to rotate him regularly at 3B, 2B and SS a few times a week to earn his $3.5M and provide some veteran on-field stability.
  22. Ah yes, the morning after the night before...
  23. Yup. As I stated yesterday, with the way he was going and the pitch count being what it was, I would have probably sent him out to start the 8th. But for heavens sake, how do Gardy and Andy not have a better feel for what Correia has been as a pitcher over his career? And such a delayed reaction to obvious laboring, like they thought the score was 5-0, not 1-0.
  24. All very fair points, and we're only dealing with an admittedly very small amount of performance data to optimistically project of things to come- but Harper and Trout have blazed and carved out a new "phenom trail" that might prove irresistable for the Twins to follow. And thus far, Buxton seems to be a pretty well-grounded and hard-working kid. I tend to think you are going to be a valuable go-to/on-the-ground guy the next few years, JC! It might just be me, but it seems like there's more buzz about Twins prospects potentially knocking at the MLB door than ever before. Now, if only a couple of them could play SS or C...
  25. True, except let me amend that to say that some of DicknBerts and Gardy's comments are, in fact, first uttered by Terry Ryan, who sets the current party line agenda. the others, including other members of the media, become witting, or unwitting, apparatchik mouthpieces for that agenda.
