  1. This is what I'm talking about... Items like this are helpful, picking Miller's brain about the situation with Sano and the Golden Trio, perhaps off the record, seems like a good source of inside scuttlebutt.
  2. Don't get me wrong, I much appreciate the topic being brought up, it's just that the article is highly incomplete as it invites more questions than it tells us in "what is happening in Ft Myers." Certainly, phone inquiries can be made to the local radio broadcaster, fans in the know, "inside sources", etc., to give the article more granularity.
  3. Jeffers better be moving up. And time to actually immerse him in Catcher 101 with a good coach and a peer with more catching tools. I wrote about Kiriloff back in May. It's easy to project his what-if? trajectory to him now being in AAA and knocking on the door. At this juncture, all signs point to him being the Twins best hitting prospect since Morneau/Mauer. Kiriloff's numbers at age 20 compare very favorably and meet or exceed the latter two's hitting stats at the same age and level. Both Morneau and Mauer didn't lose a year to injury and both ended their 20 year old season with AA exposure. Will Twins management continue to be aggressive with him and give Kiriloff a AA look-see in August if he continues to rake?
  4. He's definitely better than some of the current Indians BP dreck. Out of 30 teams, only the Royals have a worse bullpen than CLE.
  5. But the Institutional Memory still lingers in this franchise. Garver NOT playing 2/3rds of the time is downright strange to me in a lost season. I still will never forget management/scribes justifying the trade of Ramos for Capps as: "Ramos will never play much here anyway..." I campaigned for acquiring Jason Castro with the old regime. Credit new management for signing the best catcher available instead of trading away the future. Too bad they didn't have two RPs available that CLE coveted? Jansen (TOR), Ruiz/Smith (LAD) available for their current/future needs. A's have near-major league ready catching prospect (Murphy- a different one!) and have current needs the Twins can fill.
  6. The Twins have a long history of love affairs with both ML and MiLB catchers that they think, apparently, can hit but can't catch. Harper, Suzuki, Pinto, Murphy, Garver and most recently, spending a 2nd Rd pick on Ryan Jeffers (when no scouting service had Jeffers in the top 200- Jeffers has only played C in 9 games so far in Rookie Ball).
  7. QO seems like the obvious route, here. (Boatloads of cash should be coming off of the payroll)
  8. That theory about the outsized value of catching prospects is about to be severely tested. Makes me think CLE "thinks" they know something no one else knows about Mejia? Either that or SD must have the same talent scout that the Nats used to pluck Ramos from the Twins for MadCapps?
  9. A little more research into Sano's future-as-a-Twin status might be helpful here in making this article even more informative, ie: - At what date do the Twins gain another year of control over Sano? - How many options remain on Sano after 2018 ( in case of need for 2-yr. "fix")? - How much does Sano currently weigh? - Who is working with Sano on his plate approach and dietary habits? - With Mauer's and Morrison's (and Escobar's) contracts expiring, is there any hint from management on what position is envisioned for Sano in 2019? - Bremer mentioned that it is anticipated that Sano might soon move up to AAA, is there a time frame and/or set of criteria set by management in which this scenario would take place?
  10. That would make it a possibility for 3 starts before the July 31 trading deadline.
  11. Except today. He delivered when it mattered twice. And he appears to have started, yet again, his patented 2nd half surge. Numbers for July suggest as such: 5 HR/~.300 BA/1.000+ OPS/~.420 wOBA/~170 OPS+
  12. I repeat- Come on. Tell me the truth, is there ANY position Astudillo CAN'T play?** *** (Answer: Catcher?)
  13. You win the prize. (Based on today's effort, tomorrow's BP game might be record-setting...)
  14. Come on. Tell me the truth, is there ANY position Astudillo CAN'T play?** *** (Answer: Catcher?)
  15. Speaking of the positive side.... this does open up a 3B promotion opportunity for that certain prospect down in A ball, Miguel Sano...!
  16. You need to throw in Yangervis Solarte- who the Twins threw away for nothing. His 16 HR and .201 ISO and .325 wOBA would rank 2nd and 3rd, respectively on the current Twins roster.
  17. Exactly. If he "continues with numbers like a 9.1 K/BB Rate" he will be among the freakiest/controllingest power pitchers in MiLB baseball history. I looked that Ober K/BB number up last night comparatively in MiLB and it jumped off the page at me. There is one other pitcher with 50+ IP in all of A ball with a higher K/BB ratio. And the dropoff from 9.1 to third place is 8.2... those 3 are severe outliers to the rest of the pack. In A+ ball, there are two better than Ober in K/BB. In the FSL specifically, Ober's the best... and the second place pitcher is all the way down at 5.92. In AA, the K/BB leader is at 6.92 and in AAA the leader is at 6.40. In short, the hitters are bound to catch up with Ober at some point very soon, but he certainly is worth following in his development- especially if, as you say, the BABIP recedes and the K rate sustains.
  18. Cleveland's CF trees don't seem to affect Indians bats. The Twins FO HAD to cut down the pines back in 2011- on the player's insistence for their very safety and crippled batting averages.*** *** BTW- Just what IS the excuse going around the clubhouse this year for the Mass Anemia on offense?
  19. I agree about his flaws. But it has been evident since Polanco, then Castro went down, the Twins 2 key young player busts, Dozier and Mauer flailing and/or hurt, and that Santana first went down and that now, may never return to previous form... that this was a lost season. They've been grooming Garver for 6 seasons now, rather than completely give up and pigeonhole his ceiling, why not let him learn as he goes for a few months? The regular ABs might help consistencies in his swing, mature his approach to ML pitching- he has shown glimmers of an all-field contact-emphasis hitting philosophy, and since he's caught most of the Twins young pitchers at some point over the last 5 years, let him take his lumps in a lost season and make a more informed opinion later on rather than just pigeonholing him as a back-up. And in favor of proven less-than-mediocrity, Bobby Wilson? Mind-boggling. If Wilson has veteran catching tools, at 35, then he should be mentoring Garver behind the scenes, with Garver getting 2/3rds of the playing time, definitely not Wilson.
  20. The first post is exactly in the "spirit" of highly diminished reward- (after a disastrous and embarrassing roadtrip)- for an empty victory against an equally floundering team- in which most TDers share equal parts frustration and anger at a team in the midst of both inexplicable and explicable collapse- and... looking at the entire thread, most chose to vent in ways surprisingly similar to your "hollow gourmet victory dinner for two" visual. PS- Slegers and Cave were awesome tonight, one part of the "solution"- after all, "sweeping generalizations" can only start with individual game performance analysis- is for even more of the fringiest League Minimum $ guys on the roster to play this well and humiliate and hopefully wake up "The Walking Dead" regulars. (ie, Buxton had the night off, I hope he was watching!).
  21. I only drink coffee and juice. And I seem to recall you making a jibe or two at the Orioles level of play on this thread. My comment was I thought obviously in the spirit of the collected wisdom of TD participants- who see two teams that are obviously seriously off the rails and about to be completely blown up.
  22. I heard Byron Buxton;s new nickname down in Rochester is Pipp....
