  1. See here if you're missing something, or not- http://twinsdaily.com/topic/17788-what-does-batting-around-mean/
  2. Where's Bark when we REALLY need him?
  3. Did you really have to struggle for good/iconic musicians from Michigan? Besides the entire stable-full of talent from the golden age of Motown... you have, to name but a few... Betty Carter George Winston Ted Nugent Bill Haley Alice Cooper Iggy Pop Noel "Paul" Stookey and one of the most unappreciated, proto-punk garage rockers- Rob Tyner and MC5- who gained legendary status in the late 60s with "Kick out the Jams"
  4. <The response system is breaking down even further.....> As I said, 10 years in the Twins' system. I think it's fair to surmise, he's all he's ever going to be as a catcher.
  5. There's only one way to find out, and Pinto can't improve at the plate by continuing to mash against a level he's demonstrated that he's already mastered. And I think he is what he ever is going to be as a catcher (admittedly, not much). <BTW, Brock. Something screwy is going on with the font when responding to a post.>
  6. I think it's going to be Vargas going down rather than Hicks moving up. At this point in time, Hicks seems like a critical Chattanooga component, along with Polanco, in helping the rest of the club to get their bats going.
  7. and the trees, the trees...
  8. ...or affirmative nepotism...
  9. Search for the other thread in the non-Twins baseball discussion forum.
  10. Those are my points precisely, and as I've posted previously in the other Mauer thread- that the SLG and the ISO numbers remain as alarming in 2015 as they were in 2014, particularly for a 1st baseman. The improved BB/K rate and quality of contact rate (to all fields now) should merit moving him up in the batting order.
  11. You left out the most important number in my view- 2015 LD%- 35.1% Career LD%- 24.0% That's a 46.3% improvement. The dude is hitting ropes, finding a good pitch to square up and hit earlier in the count, and not so many 8 bounce, seeing-eye worm-burners.
  12. or "likely"... or "inevitable"
  13. Boy, what a good post. Baseball's longest-ever winning streak was from the NY Giants, who won 26 straight in 1916, but still only finished 4th in an 8-team league. And in each of the last 4 years, the Twins had their "It's Happening" moment at some point in the first half of the season, to the point that there was actual discussion- despite all of the obvious warts- on whether or not this team was a contender rather than a pretender. I like some of the line-up juggling that Molitor has employed- eventually he'll find the right combination, perhaps even moving Mauer up in the batting order. And I especially like how he uses the bullpen- frequently asking for multiple innings from the staff--> rather than Gardy wasting 5 or more arms in one night, to pitch one inning, or less, and then publicly complaining that he needs a 13th, or even 14th pitcher. In the meantime, let's all appreciate the serendipity of these mini-streaks of enjoyable baseball, with the full recognition that the failure quotient side of the won-loss equation actually is still the most important factor in effecting the necessary personnel and philosophical changes for this club moving forward.
  14. Phil Miller pointed out this morning that Mauer has gone 55 games without a home run. Mauer ranks 30th, or last, among First Baseman with a paltry ISO of .032. (by contrast, to illustrate Mauer's lack of power production, Danny Santana ranks 26th among Shortstops with an ISO of .034) Further, Mauer's 4 home runs last season, was the lowest total by a First Baseman since 1998.
  15. The only current alternative to this mess at the top of the order is Mauer. Or wait.... OTOH, Aaron Hicks is teasing everyone again down in Rochester with a .375 OBP (ehhh, did I just write that?).
  16. I just think if power production needs a kick, (some of) the Twins hitters might consider consulting with Cruz's "nutritionist".
  17. Thankyou for taking one for the team, NWTF (I think that clinches the W for tonight, at least).
  18. Is there anyone arguing that there wasn't a need to address the pitching issue? Cause and effect still happens, though.
  19. The .659 OPS and 7th place in the MWL is accurate, and obviously, not a good number. Among all 30 Class A teams in two leagues, the Twins OPS ranks 17th. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?sid=milb&t=l_tba&lid=118 http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?sid=milb&t=l_tba&lid=116 The fact is, there hasn't been "a consistent balance" in the top rounds- the Twins have recognized a deficiency in their pitching/catching depth, and have emphasized gathering more quality arms than bats over the last 3 drafts, and they have particularly been trying to find inefficiencies in hard-throwing college RPs. 2014- Pitchers- 9 of the first 13 2013- Pitchers- 12 of first 19 (+ 3 Catchers = 15/19) 2012- Pitchers- 13 of first 18 (+ 1 Catcher = 14/18) Don't know why you choose to turn this into a debunking contest, since we are essentially in agreement. The fact remains, my first premise is still accurate, many more pitchers/catchers in the early rounds, which means there is left a big offensive hole in the Ft Myers class, and a lesser, but still significant one at Cedar Rapids. The best hope for current prospect offensive potential largely lies in Chattanooga- if the current crop there would continue to disappoint at their current level of futility- the Twins would obviously need to look further for more offensive production down the road; they will likely need to wisely develop and deal from the pitching prospect talent surplus- if there ends up being one.
  20. I believe Rob Antony was quoted that the club had imposed the pitch limit as well as the cumulative innings pitched limit early on, and I believe Ryan supported that notion later on. I think it was pre-determined that the club's intent was for Meyer to get through a "full season" of 130 or so innings @ AAA without a health issue, a major league call-up really wasn't ever on the front-burner.
  21. Cedar Rapids is currently OPSing @ .659, which is 7th in the Midwest League. Beyond Gordon and possibly Fernandez and the Zachs, I'm hard-pressed to find many potential major league hitters there, but I would defer to Jim Crikket on that front.
  22. Great chart, although I'm stunned in the other direction. Only 4 out of your list of 15 players debuted before 22.5 years of age.
  23. Yep, the franchise has pretty much most of their offensive prospect eggs in that one Lookout basket. Especially considering the offensive black hole in the next class coming after them at Ft Myers. With all of those relief pitchers drafted recently with the top picks, the Miracle are in last place in the FSL in BA (.216) and OPS (.589) and the Kernels are only doing a little better than that.
  24. Great stuff, Markos. The drama continues and is eerily ringing familiar. I suppose besides along with the Meyer scuffling and the Meyer gems, some folks will also be needlessly speculating if the Super Two date is coming into play. Perhaps 3 straight games of 11Ks or better, rather than 2, will be enough to kick the doors down and end this nonsense, but it's far from clear who's place he takes in the rotation, especially after Pelfrey's performance Wednesday night.
