  1. Hard to say this, but I think he's absolutely correct here: "No matter what is being said, there is zero chance that Rob Antony, now the interim, will become Ryan’s replacement. Pohlad is not going to fire a man that was as personally admired as Terry Ryan as evidence to clientele that the Twins are ready to change, and then maintain the same front office."
  2. These names and even parts of the commentary look a lot Mike Axisa's from earlier today... http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/despite-poor-2016-the-twins-gm-is-a-desirable-job-and-here-are-some-candidates/amp/ Dan Kantrovitz and Chaim Bloom are two more names worth looking at.
  3. Definitely thought this was a hoax at first. Thanks for all of your efforts and dedication, Terry. Best of luck.
  4. That first paragraph is true. The second one is purely based on perception. It'd be great to see some comprehensive, long term math to back up such a claim.
  5. 2 weeks is nothing. 2+ months of raking AND an improved BB rate? Bring him back.
  6. Injury insurance, but not performance insurance. Duping seems like a strong term to me. The player stocks are highly risky and many will decline in value, but it only takes one guy being decent enough through his arb years to be just a decent free agent and land a big contract for the stock to pay off at a high multiple. Look at this year's free agent class and it's easy to envision how even a guy like Duffey could pay off. Mike Leake got 5/$80M. J.A. Happ got 3/$36M.
  7. Fascinating subject -- thanks. First post is likely true. Even though, I doubt they'll look back on it with regret knowing it helped them get by during the lean MiLB years.
  8. Fairly easy path to make it happen if Milone struggles. O'Rourke gets sent back down, Milone to the pen as the second lefty and long reliever, Berrios to the rotation. Not sure who comes off the 40 man though. Don't forget about the ever looming possibility of injury either. These scenarios usually all depend on everyone staying healthy when, in reality, it's probably just as (or more) likely that someone goes down.
  9. I don't think it's time for a teardown, regardless of how this year goes. However, facts show that it is quite likely they'll be in a position to move some vets at some point this year. The idea of moving guys like Dozier, Escobar and Plouffe seems out of place to me. The Twins need more players that are at least league average, not fewer (and some elite players, of course). Those type of trades perpetuate the rebuild by always needing to wait for prospects to mature and adjust to MLB (see: Timberwolves).
  10. After a tough start, it'll be a tall order to be in contention by the ASG. Who are candidates to be dealt (or waived)? Nolasco Jepsen Fien Suzuki Who else and why?
  11. Well, get the pressure out of the way early.... Ack.
  12. Only mistake was letting Santana bat instead of Arcia. Then use Nunez as a sub for him if need be, not Mauer. Nothing wrong with a defensive sub for Sano with a lead. Nothing wrong with May pitching multiple innings in an appearance (he's NOT the mop up guy). Molitor has stated more than once that he prefers to do that.
  13. While I agree his arm value is probably not sustainable at 2015 numbers, do note that both DRS and UZR account for runners not taking bases. If that part happens, it'd benefit his value... although probably not as much as throwing everyone out.
  14. I don't think a one-to-one comparison to Jim Thome is anything to prove it's not true. That's like saying that comparing Ortiz to Bonds makes Ortiz a bad power hitter. In the last 20 years, you can find 338 players who went to the opposite field at least 500 times. Jim Thome is #2 in wRC+ from that list. Ortiz is #25. Despite his whining, success hitting to the opposite field has been essential for Papi. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=500&type=1&season=2015&month=23&season1=1995&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0
  15. With the exit speed he generates and his approach, I don't see any reason why he can't be .350+ as we've seen from the likes of Votto, Harper, Goldschmidt, Freeman, Cabrera and Trout over the last 3 years.
  16. I hate to even ask this, but... If there is some wavering on Buxton as the Opening Day CF, how long would he have to be in AAA to gain another year of control? Late July-ish?
  17. It communicates a desire for the wonderful TD staff to promote content on the front page that will be something more than a catchy, clickable headline with some vague reference to a BP book but contain a bunch of the same old storylines without any real analysis on the subject.
  18. Storylines like that are one of the many reasons I love this game.
  19. I've supported keeping Plouffe unless the offer was extremely attractive, but this is pretty telling. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/02/finding-a-landing-spot-for-david-freese.html Freese STILL on the market. Not to mention lackluster trade returns on both Lawrie and Frazier.
  20. I'd like to leave this here... http://twinsdaily.com/topic/6334-article-joe-benson-claimed-off-waivers-by-rangers/?fromsearch=1
  21. I love you, Michael Rand. It may or may not work out, but I do know that far too much has been made of it. Particularly around here.
  22. Looks like a right fielder to me!
  23. So it's okay to put money in a pot for the winner to spend (or, donate) however they want, but it's not okay to put money in a pot for the winner to donate however they want? That makes zero sense...
  24. I'd say the prevailing presumption around here is the exact opposite... Can't say I've heard anyone mention an elite defender, more so some hope that he can be just good enough for long enough. Certainly in comparison to some others we've seen in the OF.
