  1. I can't believe no teams were interested in Jared Burton.
  2. I agree with your original post. No way in hell should we call up Ibarra.
  3. I honestly kind of liked Drew Butera. He was a good guy and an easy target to make jokes about.
  4. I bought into Deduno when he started performing well this season. He's definitely not a bad back end pitcher and he has the stuff to stay. Keep him at under 5 million/year and I'm satisified with an extension. The Twins really found a gem with him. I hope Albers gets a chance to become another one.
  5. I think the reason is because his deal (realistically) expires at the end of this season. Perhaps there is more leverage in a re-signing than a signing, but I'm not sure Pelfrey has been enjoying his stay here. Although, I agree with you on that he would be good for this team.
  6. You forgot possibly one of the biggest reasons that he makes sense for Pittsburgh. He would be pitching in the NL FAARRR away from the Twins. We've rarely played Pittsburgh in the new millenium as well.
  7. 6Ks in 4 innings? The stats don't really mean anything for Wimmers (especially in a low level), but that is quite comforting.
  8. It would probably take a B+ prospect and a good amount of change to me (and possibly the Twins too) to start considering trading Perkins.
  9. That's very true. Morneau's numbers may not look too great as an average, but he truly was one of baseball's elite players for 4 years. He has the MVP for '06, finished 2nd to Pedroia in '08, and was on his way to winning the MVP in 2010 (Very good chance). Not to mention he defeated the player behind the greatest showing at the HR Derby ever. He has the accolades.
  10. Romero is not a big league player. His defense is horrible and his bat isn't all that great (.776OPS). I backed him earlier in favor when Dozier was struggling, but I was wrong then. If we're giving Plouffe away for the sole purpose of letting Romero play, that's foolish. Plouffe has displayed enough versatility to be moved around the field (mind Sano). The asking price for Plouffe has to be a top 150 prospect and pieces. He hasn't hit arbitration yet and he's only had 1,000PAs in his career. I think he can still improve as a player and be a .800OPS, 25 HR, ,.260 BA player. Plus, we need right handed hitters. You can't just trade away all your assets this year and expect to be good in the next two.
  11. So Morneau and Burton for the rights to raid the Pirates farm.
  12. I like the Vizquel and Alomar suggestions. I'm not very fond of Pudge because of the allegations involving him. To make this post worthwhile, I'd also like to add Bobby Abreu as a candidate.
  13. Look out, Sano. We have a better 3B prospect waiting in the wings. Seriously love this guy though.
  14. It would be nice to have him right now for sure. The problem with that though, is that he knows he's making $13m. I swear, give a player a big deal and he doesn't care how he performs (<-unfair generalization, but seemingly true).
  15. I think they should attempt to re-sign him. There are too many question marks in next year's rotation, so I think it's important to have a couple veterans. Pelfrey is interesting because, while I agree that he's a back end starter, I think he has the ability to pitch like a 3 or better performance wise (for a season). I never really turned on Pelfrey this season because I was aware of the injury and most of his starts still gave us a chance to win. 5IP 4ER was the infamous line.
  16. Mejia just hits and hits and hits and hits. I don't care that they're all singles, he can really hit the ball.
  17. I feel like this is a trivial display. Doing this at the majors is probably very inappropriate, but a suspension is over the top discipline. Let's not tamper with his competitive spirit and confidence.
  18. This type of call is what I HATE to see called wrong. More than a fair/foul, play at the plate/first, or strikes and balls. Not calling the infield fly is the umpire's misunderstanding of the rule and not a call based on what they saw.
  19. I would definitely put Duensing higher than Perkins and Plouffe. Jamey Carroll is another name people have been tossing around. Regarding #5, I don't think there is any real competition between Sano and Plouffe. They play the same position, but either (likely Plouffe) could be moved somewhere else.
  20. I believe we'd be on the hook for his salary, so no. It's a one year contract and he likely won't be pitching anytime soon.
  21. As long as they're not hitting the wall, I'm ok with how they're handled. These guys want to play as much as they can and as long as the medical staff does their job the players should be fine. They just have to look for warning signs like decreasing velocity or complaints of soreness, or something along those lines. The season is long, but I often don't see too many pitchers throwing much more than 5 or 6 innings a start in the minors. It's right to be cautious with potential investments, but when you don't have to, let it play out. Eventually they're going to have to throw that many innings a season anyway. Perhaps it takes less than a few years to get to get to that workload.
  22. It's hard to get an extra base hit off Deduno. That's the key. He'll give up the walks and singles, but HRs and doubles are pretty rare. You have to beat him "piranha style". I agree with the OP that he looks like a 4 or possibly a 5. I pretty much all but guarantee he'll be in the 2014 rotation. The only way I don't see him starting next year is if he gets injured again.
  23. These are all pretty alarming, so hopefully (like you said) time will provide a bit of an antidote.
  24. Danny Ortiz continues to be overlooked as a prospect, but he was very good in this game. ---------------------------- I like what Ortiz can do since he carries a good mix of tools, but his inability to draw walks is a huge drawback. His OPS hasn't ventured far above .750 in any of his pro seasons and that's mainly because his career OBP has consistently sat around .305. I think he could be a decent corner outfielder if he could improve his patience, but that is VERY hard to do.
