  1. So do I, but when do the Twins do that? They have refused to trade Span, Willingham, and Cuddyer at the most recent trade deadlines. Correia pitches good and the Twins FO realizes it's still an area of need and they probably decide to keep him. They signed him for two years and I'm sure they probably intended to have him for both (much like Josh Willingham). Wish away though, but history would suggest disappointment. Again.
  2. My suggestion for the Twins to increase our chances of winning now is to move Trevor Plouffe to 2B. Plouffe has a .989% Career Fielding there (in a limited ~150 innings albeit) and his defense would likely be less of an issue there. Two different case, but consider that Brian Dozier was an even worse SS than Plouffe and now he's an elite 2B. Although Dozier's practice and preparation obviously helped, I think Plouffe could get the hang of things fairly quickly. His bat at 2B would be a HUGE advantage for us, especially since he would essentially be replacing Brian Dozier's miniscule .593 OPS. So now we need a third baseman. I would like to call up Deibinson Romero to fill the void there, instead of relying on utility men Jamey Carroll and Eduardo Escobar. He's consistently OPSed over .700 for 3 years of New Britain and up and could provide some needed pop. The problem is his fielding. While he's been a poor fielder in AA-AAA, I don't think it's unreasonable to think he could do just as well as Plouffe's .954%. Perhaps he could provide a little more range at the corner. Romero is 26 and really isn't a prospect, but why not give him a chance? We know Dozier, Escobar, and Carroll have no future and can't provide much of anything hitting wise. Who do we drop? We need 1 40 man spot and 2 25 man spots. I would put Chris Herrmann back in Rochester, remove B.J. Hermsen from the 40 man, and option Escobar to Rochester. We get something like this that could possibly get us closer to .500. SS Pedro Florimon C Joe Mauer 2B Trevor Plouffe 1B Justin Morneau LF Josh Willingham DH Ryan Doumit 3B Deibinson Romero RF Chris Parmelee CF Clete Thomas It may be somewhat risky, but it could work out. This gives the Twins more power threats.
  3. While RBI aren't a great stat, consider that someone has to come up in the clutch. If you don't score runs for your team, you minus well not even bat. Chris Parmelee is OPSing .374 with RISP. That's the primary reason why he's not been valuable at the plate for us and I groan every time he predictably fails.
  4. It will be Chris Herrmann. Hardly any doubt in my mind.
  5. I'm starting to think that Albers could be the new Slama.
  6. So Bill Smith could never successfully defeat Slama, which forced Terry Ryan to finish what he started once and for all. Interesting conspiracy.
  7. That's true, but unfortunately every other team knows he's Kevin Correia. Still something better than a marginal prospect would be nice.
  8. Minor league journeyman Cody Eppley was signed today in a move that's purpose may have only been to make Rochester slightly more competitive. Anthony Slama was buried on the depth chart and has had his worst season for the Twins this year.
  9. Do you really think Hicks is the same player now that he was in April? No way and his season line isn't what we've been getting recently. Why would you demote a player that is improving his play where he needs to be?
  10. I'm so jealous. New Britain is the team to watch and they're so far away. But I guess I shouldn't complain because you're far from the Twins.
  11. PR fallout? That didn't stop them from trading their two most likeable players in the offseason. The Twins have a few guys who look like they could become elite relievers. Zach Jones and Michael Tonkin are power pitchers that maybe have some closer potential. Closer also seems to be Trevor May's backup plan. I think Corey Williams was supposed to have some closer potential when he came out of Vanderbilt too. Really though. Perkins is everything you want in a closer. His splits vs. lefties and righties are basically identical, high K/9, and a low WHIP. He is our best trade chip at this point. Most likely to be traded? No. I'm holding out that the Twins trade Willingham or Doumit to free up some space on corners. We have Herrmann up as Doumit's possible replacement and I think Arcia is ready for his test run.
  12. You're not a proponent of surrounding "greatness" with "greatness"?
  13. Arcia wasn't good in right, but now center? It's going to get even worse then it has been defensively.
  14. This was very informative. Thanks!
  15. Scott Diamond and Mike Pelfrey
  16. At the moment, I've got a few names I'd like to see promoted. Some might be a little unlikely, but as far as performance goes, these players have all been solid. AAA Kyle Gibson AAA Andrew Albers AA Josmil Pinto AA Logan Darnell A+ Kennys Vargas A+ Matt Koch A+ Zach Jones A Byron Buxton A Dalton Hicks A Steven Gruver Rk Angel Mata
  17. I'm thinking Mark Sobolewski and Chris Pettit are gone.
  18. I pretty much lost all interest in the Miracle. Probably will only be looking for Duffey and Vargas. New Britain is dangerous with Sano, Rosario, Ortiz, Morales, Meyer, May, Pinto, Santana, and Baxendale! Hopefully Nate Roberts and Kennys Vargas soon. Maybe even Ryan Eades too.
  19. Miguel Sano hit his 15th and 16th HRs today. The All Star Break is just about to begin for him. The record for most HRs hit in a single season in the Florida State League is 33 which was set in 1971. He'd have a good shot to break it if he's there for the entire season, but obviously it's important to keep him progressing through the system. I think it's obvious that people here would move him up over some record, but how about a hypothetical question? Do you think he would break the single season record if he was able to play for the Miracle the rest of this season?
  20. I always love the mailbag posts!
  21. Coomer would be the best.
  22. That word..that, that... "not word".:s-instagib:
  23. Sizemore used to be one of my favorite non-Twins. I hope it works out between the Twins and him. If a potential move can get Clete and Wilkin off the roster, it's worth a shot.
  24. I'm actually very happy he's completely out of our hands. I was hoping he would get claimed, so we never have to worry about him being back.
