  1. Why didn't Rosario hit for the cycle? Man alive, he's terrible.
  2. And I'll laugh off that he actually laughed off to that. Some expert.
  3. If we go by WAR, he's tied for 5th best with Kendrick and Kinsler.
  4. 3.2 WAR if you're on the BR side.
  5. Very high risk, but very high reward. We just got done paying Morneau 12 million a year at 1B, why not take a chance and grab his replacement for a similar amount? The Chris Parmelee experiment is basically done and I don't see too many guys being above average regulars at first for the Twins. It's starting to look like Plouffe may not have the bat for first, Colabello is old, and Sano will probably stick at 3B. There's potential in Kennys Vargas, but putting all our eggs in one basket would be a bad idea. Even if he were to pan out, we sort of need a DH too. You never know what could happen. If this guy looks like somewhat of a safe bet, outbid the other teams and grab him. I would be psyched if they did. When a player has potential to be an elite hitter in baseball, it's worth the risk. Having him and Sano just makes me...dream.
  6. Just when I'm down on Terry Ryan, he does this.
  7. Would you rather be in the position of the Kansas City Royals or the Minnesota Twins? I thought this would be interesting because I really don't see Kansas City as a WS contender for at least a few years. I think it's almost a guarantee that Shields leaves and you can't expect Ervin Santana to keep dominating. In addition, their offense is lackluster and Butler has a questionable future. On the other hand, they are closer to the Fall Classic than us now obviously.
  8. I'm completely ok with what the Twins are doing. I think the Twins scouting department is much better than BA's and the rankings for both are likely much different. If a player is top 30 on BA and the Twins don't like what they see, they clearly shouldn't sign him. Why should they spend money on players they don't like? Minnesota has been fairly successful the past few years with international prospects and I think they should continue what they are doing. Bill Smith deserves a lot of credit for that. Although, I've begun to sour on Terry Ryan and I'm unsure if the Twins will be as good in this area in the coming years.
  9. There's a very good chance that they (Buxton and Sano) will be ranked 1-2. I think Sano could be baseball's best, but I think Buxton is a special type of talent that can't be eclipsed. I mean the guy has gotten 70+s for all 5 tools from some scouts.
  10. I liked Jamey Carroll, but we don't need him. I appreciated him last season, but he was nothing more than a roadblock now. I'll be a fan from here on out and give him best wishes in Kansas City.
  11. Who will the Twins bring up in his place? Eduardo Escobar seems like he'd be the most likely choice.
  12. Well, you can take Chase Utley out of the top 10 with his new extension. Outside of Cano and Ellsbury (who I'd be shocked if they left they're respective homes), there is nothing good. Or nothing that will command the big offseason deals we're use to seeing every winter.
  13. Dozier and Florimon got no love as best defensive choices.
  14. I would say it's nearly a requisite that you have a four seam fastball and some form of changeup. I think the changeup is the best pitch in baseball and there are so many variations of it (circle, straight, or even Burton's splange) that you're bound to find one that works. There are probably more versions of a changeup than any other pitch.
  15. We need a possible shortstop for the future, but this guy isn't it. The Twins should, however, be aggressive when it comes to getting a shortstop. Even if it takes the money Guerrero will command. That's really the point both sides are trying to make. I'll use Nishi as an example of a foreign SS. I don't fault the Twins for actually spending money on Nishioka, I'm mad that the scouting department actually thought he would be good. Although, would I try it again if they liked another? You bet. The Twins actually went out and took a risk signing Nishioka and they got killed for it. Now they're too timid to do anything when it's absolutely necessary to get out of sucking. When it comes to money, why not risk it? If the Twins are going to save $5million they have zero chance of that available money bettering the team. Spending it, while potentially dangerous, at least provides some chance of creating a more successful team.
  16. He's 24. I don't think Ibarra is anything special. This is his first good minor league season since his age 20 season in Elizabethton. I'm not convinced that he suddenly became a really solid reliever, but then again I don't know much about him. 50 Innings really just doesn't do it for me. He allows too many baserunners and has questionable control. On the other hand, I think just about anyone is better than Duensing at this point. Although, I think Thielbar has won his role.
  17. Mike Rosenbaum over at Bleacher Report gave the Twins the highest ranking when assessing all clubs minor league systems post-trade deadline. Make what you want of it because it is BR, but it was fairly accurate. The site mainly gets mistrust because anyone can contribute, but Rosenbaum is a lead writer, so it's something. Re-Ranking All 30 MLB Farm Systems Post-Trade Deadline | Bleacher Report If you only want a brief look... The Top 5 were: 1. Twins 2. Cubbies 3. Cardinals 4. Pirates 5. Astros So every team is from one of the MLBs central divisions and 4/6 teams from the 2012 NL Central made the top 5.
  18. This voting so far is ridiculous. Rally Monkey is way more valuable than Butera.
  19. Dave St. Peter: "Terry..TERRY! TERRY, WAKE UP!!!" *shakes Terry Ryan* Terry Ryan: *wipes drool* "Whaa?" DSP: "Terry, it's a quarter to three and we still haven't made any deadline trades yet!!!" TR: "But..it's Tuesday, isn't it?" DSP: "NO! It's Wednesday the 31st!" TR: *now alert* "Oooooh, I did it again. Get to the phones, everyone! We have no time to haggle for a good trade! Anything, and I mean ANYTHING goes!!!!!" TR: "Two years of being sellers while accomplishing nothing looks bad to the fanbase! We have to create the illusion or else they'll try to screw with my nap schedule" DSP: "No...They wouldn't dare." TR: *nods with eyes bulging* DSP: "This is more serious than I expected! I should have nudged you earlier instead of.... never mind." TR: "What?" DSP: "It's not important. Forget it." *room snickers quietly* TR: *doesn't realize his left eyebrow is shaven* *silence ensues for a few minutes before the phone rings* TR: "2:59!!! Hello...Los Angeles?" LAD: "Yes, we would like to offer you.." TR: "Done. Now tell me what the deal was." LAD: "Well, it involves Drew Butera." *entire room let's out a huge sigh of relief*
  20. Butera's dismissal, B.J. Hermsen's waiving, and the inevitable Cole DeVries waiving give the Twins plenty of option for a 40 man spot for Albers. I like his odds more with Butera's spot open.
  21. It will be nice to see the Red Wings adding production at catcher. Not sure what the stats are for starting catchers there, but I imagine it to be pretty terrible. Pinto improves their playoff odds by a reasonable margin.
  22. He certainly is quite the journeyman.
  23. Whoa. The Dodgers are taking on another albatross contract. No surprise there.
  24. Minnesota trades Drew Butera to the Dodgers for a spot on the 40 man roster.
