  1. I probably misspoke, but you have to find that ace before they reach the major leagues for any amount of time. Otherwise it will cost you most of your very good upper level farm system Anything is possible, since if the White Sox rebuild they may trade one or both of Sale and Quintana, but cost in prospects would be extremely high, unless Sox totally blow what they want.
  2. You almost cannot trade for an ace. You have to develop one or buy one. It may be cheaper to buy bullpen and build from the backend out. And this might be the way to make the Twins competitive sooner. The other way will cost you 30+ million a year after 2017.
  3. No, No, No. Way overpay, with a couple of good years here and there.
  4. Contract is the reason I would hold out for a top flight starter prospect not too far from the majors, That would be a Tallion, Glasnow, Urias, or others of the same type. You might get one just ready to start AA, but would not want to take one further away from that and then for that type would want more and better prospects because of the higher risk.
  5. That what makes sites like this fun. Best part of Dozier is the cheap price for a high quality player. Even if you do not keep him after 2 years and the QO system still exists(and I believe it will in some form), you can put a QO on him and get a pick between 30 - 40 in a full draft(I also believe this will be part of the new system, though it maybe linked to FA after 5 years). That would be worth it to a team like the Pirates(who may only have about a two year window to make the series before the whole team becomes too expensive).
  6. Problem with this projection is the two or three trade pieces and not knowing whether they will be traded. Suzuki is gone(FA). Nontender Plouffe, Milone, Tonkin, one of Boshers or O'Rourke, DSan(maybe but do not see a role for him here next year unless Dozier is traded). Kinztler(you can pickup another of this type and they tend to have good years and bad years), and if you need more spots you have some more marginal bullpen types to remove. Trade if possible Dozier, Plouffe, one of Gibson(or non tender) or Santana. That should leave room for Palka, Granite, Jorge, Thorpe, Romero, and whatever other young players you feel the need to add(Zake Jones and or others). Try and trade Vargas/Park since both will not be needed for two years and after that you will need a third baseman, not a firstbaseman. To trade Dozier you need a possible #1 or #2 starter, that means Urias from the Dodgers or Glasnow or Tallion from the Pirates(if you ship Gibson back or even maybe Stewart I am fine with that, if they want Santana they will have to pay a much higher price in pitching or catching prospects.
  7. Relief pitching is changing. Using your best relievers when it really matters regardless of the inning. Hope it goes well for both of them.
  8. It will make an interesting time. Will not know for a few years how good they are. Terry Ryan was good at finding talent, development was another issue. Looking forward to the changes they bring to the field organization.
  9. Thorpe is a lottery ticket, same as Johan Santana, would you like to be on the wrong side of that risk reward.
  10. Grossman can be a fine utility oufielder, very good OBP and some power, also a decent bench player. Would keep Walker for one more year, too many late bloomers to give up on him. My big problem now is everything is on hold, and many opportunities might be gone by the end of the world series. This has been deemed a very active trade year and the Twins can do nothing and probably not discuss in depth any trade options until after the world series. Several trades could go down right after the series and we will have missed all of those.
  11. Both Centeno and Grossman have value. Danny Santana is a meh to me, but we could need his roster spot. I would add the 5 given and not add Turner. Would not like losing him, but something has to give and I do not think he could stick all year with another club.
  12. I believe Hughes could elect free agency given his major league service time. He would be signed to a contract by another club after he clears waviers. It would only cost a couple of million, plus the Twins would have to pay his full salary. Non starter at this point.
  13. Do not disagree that trading a starter from this club for a good return. Would just prefer it to be Gibson. Santana should bring a good haul as he is a good if not better than the top of the FA market. Just would depend on what clubs were wanting to give in return. All returns should be in the form of upside pitching prospects. Look at Cleveland. Whether they win or not they have gotten there with pitching.
  14. Santigo looks like he could be a #3 starter, so I would keep him. Remember he will have good starts and bad starts, but this year he had more good than bad.
  15. I would add Thorpe and Jones. Tonkin would be a goner and would look to trade or possibly non-tender Gibson as his spot is needed for new pitching talent. Don't know if we need both Boshers and O'Rourke. I would keep Wimmers for the time being as the long man in the bullpen. Given you add Romero and Jorge maybe you take the risk of losing Rosario(this is close). Landa could be a health issue, but that would make him easier to stash on a major league roster. Lots of tough decisions, that will make this forum fun for the next month or two. I could see the Twins losing several prospects in the rule 5, so maybe you cut a few more close players and keep some of the more talented further away ones.
  16. I expect Polonco to be the shortstop unless we trade Dozier. By 2018 - 2019 it should be Gordon. For those who want Cozert, Vielma may not hit as much, but would be as good or better defensibly. also would not cost us assets.
  17. Would like to see Wimmers get a chance in the long role. Losing Tonkin would not bother me, he is poster boy for Neil Allen's comments about fastball command. Boshers would not be a big loss, expect Plouffe to be non tendered if not traded. Do not expect Wheeler to be added. Next group will need Falvey's input, not much time left. Still probably need 4 more spots to start.
  18. The Pioneer Press article also changed my thinking. Need to get these pitchers to control their fastball and go from there. This may well be more development time for the top Twins pitching prospects. Gibson still has to go, too old and not enough stuff.
  19. Found article quoted from the Pioneer Press about Neil Allen's take. I found it to be interesting. Think it is time to look not only at stuff, but command of that stuff, which the Twins do not seem to be following. Maybe we find a pitcher that not only has stuff, but some idea how to use it. They will be closer to the major leagues, but not a pitch to contact type.
  20. Nothing breaks confidence so fast as leads not held in the late innings. Spend the money, build a bullpen by signing a front line closer, you have 4 or 5 to chose from.
  21. I would sign any of the top 3 or Holland or Feliz who might be cheaper. Twins will not be able to repair the starting rotation in one offseason, so lets build a bullpen from the backend out. Other choice would be to obtain a closer in waiting plus a starter for Dozier. That may be a too tall order, since I would like a major league ready, young pitcher who has #1 or #2 written all over him.
  22. Would add Thorpe and not bother with Wheeler as he is just another type #4 or #5 starter. would also flip Goodrum and Escobar, this might make my roster closer to 40. but would seem to have plenty of spots for trades.
  23. Wimmers needs to get a look see, as nothing else but a long reliever for the time being. Do not think that either Santana or Santiago will bring much in return. Therefore if I could not trade Gibson, I might look at doing a DFA on him so I have room for the young upcoming starters that hopefully will need spots by midseason next year.
  24. After further consideration Gone: Milone, Plouffe(if he cannot be traded), Kintzler, Schafer, Albers, Boshers, Dean, Beresford. Tonkin, Gibson(if he cannot be traded) and maybe Danny Santana Already gone Suzuki that should clear enough room to put Hughes and Perkins back on the 40 man and also protect Garver, Vielma, Granite, Palka, Romero, Jorge. and Thorpe and maybe Zack Jones. Hopefully Dozier can be traded for some close to major league ready assets so this list could change.
  25. I am on board with Holland or any front line closer. The best way to fix a bad starting staff is to have a lockdown bullpen. Twins are a ways from that, but a front line closer will shorten the game and give you a better chance to win. If that fails you can always trade the closer at the dealine for a nice haul of assets. Check what the Yankees got this year.
