    It is very difficult to do evaluations when you are asking the player to do things are have not been doing in the past. It is like taking a long term employee in the computer department, asking them to change languages, and at the same time holding them to the same standard as the rest of the programmers who have trained in the language and are proficient in it.

    It was the misuse of Tonkin and other short relievers last year by Molitor that was the issue. 2 long men should always make 1 available unless you have a string of short starts, that would leave you with another bigger issue.

    It was on this blog last year about Molitor's daughter and Pohlad's daughter having a business relationship. That would be the access and explain why he was retained. Differences are always going to be papered over out front. This is my take on why Molitor won the battle with Terry Ryan and Terry Ryan was let go. This year the 8 relief pitchers are there to prevent Molitor from misusing 1 inning relievers. This should not happen, but you have to deal with fact that Molitor is not a good manager of pitchers. This is why the current roster looks so funny.

    I also due believe this FO will cut bait a lot quicker on non-performing players. So by midseason if things go how I feel they will, this roster will look much different than it does now. Biggest joker in the deck is Molitor, who does not seem to be onboard with the program and has proven to be able to go around the FO directly to the owner. That makes predictions very difficult.

    I feel despite what it will do to this year, that a number of decent clubs have starting rotation issues. All 4 of the Twins starters outside of Mejia have value. It is just a question of your valuation of them against the team that is looking. At this time a trade is unlikely because values will not match. By early May, if some of the Twins starters are pitching well and some contenders what them it will be easlier to make the valuations match. At that time I say move them, not that I think the Twins will(they probably won't(do to Molitor), but it is the best chance of unlocking what value you have and getting decent returns. Later there will be more sellers and prices will go down due to having options of where to pick up pitchers.

    Molly probably(or certainly) did not want Haley. That was an FO decision. So they gave Molly most of the rest of what he wanted(and that included DanSan). They can play Sano at first and Escobar at 3rd, with DanSan as the backup some of the time(against lefties). The multiple positions does help in this instance. It all was a compromise with the wins going with whom Molly wanted. When this fails, it will be much easlier for the front office to construct the reason for firing him.

    Twins had to keep 13 pitchers to keep Molitor from using his 1 inning pitchers for more than 1 inning. With the offdays Molly should have one of Duffey or Haley available every day.

    Because this FO has given him 2 long men to stop Molitor from using pitchers in roles for which they are not designed. If Molitor screws up the usage, then more reason for the FO to fire him.

    I feel that the fallback plan is that Sano may be the backup 1B and DH if he is too brutal in the field at 3B and Molitor starts complaining about his defense. Putting Park on the roster now could well lose him if this is how it plays out. Escobar or Polanco become the 3rd baseman and DanSan is the utility player. I hope this is not the case, but it is the only way this roster makes any sense.

    Haley and Duffey have 2 different roles. Haley is for when you are down 6-1 in the 3rd and need innings. Duffey is for when starter is ineffective and ballgame is close (ahead or behind by 2 or less). I feel there was an issue with starters not being stretched out and you may need more than one long reliever for a couple of weeks. I feel FO gave Molitor most of what he wanted(this is probably not there direction). TR lost the power struggle last year, I presume they do not want one this year. By giving Molitor most of what he wants, he will not have the fallback of the FO undercutting how he wants to run the team. And at sometime this year he is fired.

    I suspect with this roster, that fans will lose interest early. The weekday games should be very cheap.

    It should be easy to find decent scalper tickets at very cheap prices by mid May. I may even see a game to two this year if you can get great tickets for cheap seat prices.

    It almost seems like last year's power struggle has been continued. Molitor is complaining loudly about the younger players and seems to want veterans who know how to play the game(no matter how bad they are). The FO conceding to give Molly the full chance to hang himself so he can be easily fired. They should have fired him last year. This team could well be out of contention by mid May. At that time I hope Pohlad finally figures out Molitor can't manage and brings on the whole rebuild.

    This pitching staff could bury us so fast, it is not funny. I sort of agree these are Molitor's guys and if they fail, Falvey and Levine can go to Jim Pohlad and tell him that they gave Molitor his guys and he failed. If this is a plan it is a good one. If the plan is to compete , this plan looks doomed to failure.

    There is no faith in the pitching staff, or possibly a trade is in the works for one of the Twins starters. That is the only explanation.

    Let's put the blame where it belongs. Monitor's family and Pohlad's family are friends. I would hate to see at midseason the FO wants to fire Paul and Paul tells Him Pohlad's they have not provided the pitching help needed. So the new FO either quits or is forced to trade prospects for immediate help, that would be the disaster.

    Interesting stuff. Views our minor league system like a lot of this board does. Not a lot of super top flight talent, but a lot of major league talent. Solid not superstars. If you figure that top flight players are already here, this is still a very solid system. It also is part of the bigger talent is not out of rookie leagues. That will come this year or next.

    Actually like the idea of dropping Haley and putting Hughes in the pen. Then if Duffey fails you can swap him with Hughes or send him down and bring up Berrios.

    I am guessing Tonkin, followed by one of the middle infielders. Boshers is also a likely cut. Twins have lots of players at the bottom end, who will probably not be hers. I am guessing Tonkin and Boshers along with the loser of the middle infield battle. That should be enough spots.

    I hope this puts two starter positions in play. Hughes needs to build up arm strength, and should use a rehab assignment before entrusting him to a rotation spot.

    Thanks, My point was he has no future in the short or long term with the Sox. Maybe the Twins should target him.

    I also still like Goodrum. He may need A 1/2 Season in AAA to be ready, but he probably will be a better option than DanSan or maybe Escobar, if not this season then next season.

    Still think the Twins will watch the wavier wire close to the end of spring training. One guy I am looking at is Marco Hernandez from Boston. He may get squeezed there and I do not know his option status. Can play most infield positions as well as left field. Does not have the speed of DanSan, but may well be a much better fielder. Good year last year between Pawtucket and Boston.

    I do not think Haley makes the team. I believe the 5th starter will be Mejia. I like the thought of Duffey in the pen, but think he will start to make the transition in Rochester. This is where they stuff Haley if they send Duffey to Rochester. Both the pen and the starting staff will have changes this year and this is the show me area of the team. I also think Park will start as the DH and Vargas will be optioned to Rochester.
