  1. Draft if not put in place with a full combined draft would start to favor the bad teams. Relationships do influence, but if a major spending team offered enough money across the board, you probably could raise the hue and cry. System will almost certainly be addressed in the next CBA where the minor league and foreign player will not be represented. Holes will need to be closed up front as system could still be gamed by super agents(senting players to Asia for some number of years to circumvent the draft).
  2. This year and next should determine his future. I hope he starts at Chattanooga. Walker needs to find the strikezone a bit, so I would start Harrison at Chattanooga and Walker at Ft. Myers. Both will be in Chattanooga by mid season.
  3. Depends on the outfield in Chattanooga. If both Rosario and Buxton start there(likely) Walker will have to go back to the FSL as there will be no room for him in Chattanooga. BY the way Chattanooga is in the Southern League. Also in the mix are Harrison and Murphy and Kepler. I just believe the Twins will have Walker do a half season in the FSL and move him up if warranted.
  4. White Sox should be the favorites if Carlos Rondon arrives(and he probably will). Bullpen is not totally fixed, but Robertson is a good start. Holes in the infield and pitching make them no different than other clubs, only their upside is larger. I feel like first or second is likely unless the Detroit owner opens his pocketbook to more major purchases.
  5. I agree with the above, Dombrowski has almost unlimited resources. Yes he has made good trades, but his Miami job was much better than the Detroit one. He failure with the bullpen in Detroit, probably cost them dearly. I know things are hit and miss, but St. Louis seems to do much better with finding pitching options than Detroit and I agree Dombrowski should rank behind Sabean and Beene.
  6. Do not know if they will be able to hang on this year, but they will be in total rebuild mode within the next couple of years. Or the owner can really open the pocketbook to try and save this team, but they will still have to guess right on who to buy.
  7. Hope O'Rourke shows enough in spring training to make it in the majors. Duensing will hopefully have a decent spring and be traded and Thielbar is what he is. The trade of Duensing will open a spot for O'Rourke(or Aaron Thompson, but I am not as high on him).
  8. Would be very worried about Dozier turning into Brandon Phillips 2.0. Would also be very possible that one of Polanco, Gordon, Michael could have a higher ceiling. Hope Dozier has a great first half and is flipped for a great package at the end of July.
  9. 1. Twins need a strong start to look like contenders a. Starting pitching is better than expected b. Nolasco returns to form or is traded and May and Meyer step up as starters. c. Bullpen is better than advertised and hold leads, not giving them up and starting into the here we go again. d. Santana and Escobar perform to last years levels or close. e. Vargas becomes a force at DH. f. Hunter provides the veteran leadership expected and performs at a level close to 2014. g. Hicks or Schaffer take control of the centerfield job until Buxton arrives or Santana proves he can play there h. Arcia improves to play a vital offensive role in 2015. I. Mauer returns to close to form from 2000's. j. Dozier and Plouffe have seasons at least as good as 2014. Not all of these have to happen, but most of them will have to be there to get the Twins over .500 in 2015. Likely - no, possible yes - but feel this is more like a 2016 possibility.
  10. I still feel that if Nolasco looks good in spring training some decent club desperate for pitching will trade something of value for him. TR stated last fall that Pohlad was willing to sign off on the end of scholarships.(Nolasco was specifically stated that his position was not guaranteed). Nolasco does not want to be here, so move him if you can get value.
  11. Twins look better on paper, but so does the division. Still think Nolasco will be traded this year, better if he was to reestablish some value before, but still think he will be gone, does not seem to want to be here. That would free up 2 rotation spots and for once the Twins have more candidates than spots, that is a wonderful start. Long way to the end of spring training, so we shall see what moves take place. Feel Santana will start at SS, but if he is still needed in CF it is not a big deal. Improvement by Dozier and return to close to form by Mauer would help more. We will find out this year if Arcia is the real deal, but lots more talent coming behind him. Looking forward to the year. At least there is light at the end of the tunnel.
  12. Very good article and glad someone noticed. The post steroid era has regressed to more normal levels for players and this was one of the expected fallouts, most players who reach 34-35 are either done or very close to done as a MLB player. Twins must realize this and make the changes to avoid paying these position players too long past their prime. Pitchers are different animals and can change their approach and pitching to cope with their loss of stuff.
  13. Great move for Hughes, still am in favor of trading dozier, but I was looking for starting pitching in return. May not be as necessary now.
  14. We are closer to getting to .500, but our division may be one of the better ones, so it might be difficult this year. I believe it will be more entertaining this year. No one can have too much pitching. This will be different than the last several years for the Twins.
  15. Interesting but reading some earlier articles convinced me that TR has already had the discussion with Pohlad. When it was brought up TR said the Nolasco was not guaranteed a spot in the rotation. This means that Pohlad may already have signed off on eating part of his salary or cutting Nolasco if he does not pitch up to where the Twins feel he should during this year.
  16. This looks like a send a statement move, do not know if this is best, but maybe a starter could be flipped later, this is a good problem to have.
  17. Would probably have added Levi Michael, but he may not be certain enough to be taken. Would hate to lose him to a talent poor club just taking a look and find out Twins were wrong.
  18. Do not even think of this, he is at best a #3 starter, Twins have plenty of those.
  19. Garcia sounds interesting, take him and stash him for a year. 2015 is probably a throw away year, so adding a possible good left hander could be a bonus.
  20. Would rather see the Twins buy Anderson than spend big money on a new starter who will block the kids coming from the minors. Next year if things go right would be the time to fill holes, not before you know what you have
  21. Do not see Masterson here, we need #1 or #2 type starters, not rotation filler. Do think Oliveros will be here, can see Pelfry, Tonkin is more of a long shot, but could make it. See May being the last starting pitcher, and many more arriving over the next two years. Hicks may or not make it, but could believe the Shafer - Robinson platoon will be serviceable.
  22. I can see a few reasons for this, not saying this is correct. 1. Molitor wants some clubhouse leadership by a respected player who is vocal. 2. There is a wink, wink handshake agreement with Tori that if he can be traded to a team that has a decent chance for a ring the Twins will do it. 3. If he did not sign with the Twins, it was unlikely he would be able to get his post career coaching(etc) job in the Twins organization.
  23. Twins will have to tender Duensing, too good a record to give away. Hope they can package him for something. Would not cry over it if non tendered. Nunez is a question mark and I could see him non tendered, depends on what the Twins do with some of the marginal players now on the 40 man. If they cut 4-5 of them would not bother me.
  24. If Sano does not make it at 3rd this would be reasonable. I think the Twins should go for this. If Sano makes it, the cost control would make Plouffe a reasonable trade chip. Given the inflation if anyone turns this down it would be Plouffe, betting he will continue to improve for at least the next two years.
  25. I do not agree with Thrylos very often, but here I do. Sell high. I view Brian Dozier as version 2.0 of Brandon Phillips and we all see how that worked out. Twins have many options in AA and above next year to replace him.
