  1. This is a one time chance for a talent upgrade, they are a long ways away, but would be nice to get one of the front line talents set free here.
  2. Twins needed pitching now, not 2 years from now and the only way they are going to do that is with trades and free agents. If we strike out on both, this move could be bad, but the fact that the new front office was willing to take some risks says a lot for where this franchise is now. We are into the win now era.
  3. Boston was already found guilty, Atlanta is found guilty, and Pittsburg has been probably found guilty. Their will be more, question is how far it goes.
  4. I am in favor of a draft, but doubt it will happen. This does not come as a surprise, Latin America is another area with a lot of corruption, part of the system. The Braves were just far worse offenders than most of the other clubs. This will end up being at least 3 organizations and I suspect more will be found in the next year.
  5. This could happen, a couple of really bad clubs could draft him and stash him for a year (Detroit and Cincinnati) come to mind.
  6. If Diaz is still here in 3 weeks (expect he will be), but a bad team could take a flyer.
  7. Would be surprised if we lost either Stewart or Diaz. Would agree with Seth, that it seems the Twins will be signing some relievers this offseason, otherwise some of this makes no sense. Twins have gone from rebuild to contenders and these moves seem to reflect that change. Now if the Twins do not sign some relievers the pitchforks will be out on the website.
  8. Would be surprised if we lost Stewart or Burdi because of the injuries and the red flags on both these pitchers, Diaz we could lose, but would probably be returned as he is far from ready and most clubs do not need a 1B type(calculated risk), I would expect to lose 2-3 in the rule 5 draft, which ones are a mystery.
  9. 50 - 52% of revenue for payroll would be around 125 million for next year. That is if the Twins are contenders and do not take a step back. Ticket revenue would be at a minimum $110 - $120 million at a minimum, rest of numbers I would need help filling in, concession income, TV and radio rights, National TV contract, stadium naming rights are a few of the streams of income above ticket income.
  10. Pohlads have several branches of business, they are out of banking, but have movies, car dealerships and other forms of income. Do not know which brother owns which businessess, but they are all wealthy.
  11. I have not seen numbers that high, but have seen in the 4 or 5/$100 range, and it could be a players market at the top end.
  12. I thought Melotokis had already been dropped from the 40 man. I can see some add and subtract candidates here, but for me Bard and Burdi are still too high upside to lose. Grossman many posters may want to see moved, but would not give him away for nothing. Slegers may be dropped later, would not give up on Pressley. Most of the rest are marginal, so hope the Twins can bundle a few together to get a better prospect or prospects that do not need protection for a couple of years. That could be tricky as Twins need as much depth as possible.
  13. This is what we call small sample size. Mike Schmidt did not reach the Mendoza line his first year in the bigs. Do not know how things will turn out, but Seth has contacts where the bulk of us do not. Let's wait and see.
  14. Do not think both is an option, unless there is something I do not know. But the Twins need an ace, this is a good place to start.
  15. I have also seen information guessing it would be the third round draft pick lost. Twins pick in the second round will probably be in the 50's to low 60's. Do not let this stand in the way.
  16. Good luch to Tonkin in Japan, expect he will do well there . Only slightly possible we will see him back.
  17. Grossman is probably as good or better than Werth and tends to hit lefties better. We also will need to see if Kepler or Rosario are platoon only or can stand in against all but the super tough lefties. Werth would probably want to be more than a bench bat so do not see the fit here. Lackey No, No, No.
  18. Twins have a large number of players that have some chance in the major leagues. Will be interesting on how many are exposed to the rule 5 draft. Burdi does seem low and a number of these should move up or down based on the season. I like Leach, Reed and Burdi among this group. Couple of the starters could make it. Might use some of them as lottery tickets as I feel the Twins need to thin some of the prospects rather than lose 3 - 4 this winter.
  19. According to mlbtraderumors Nik Turley was claimed on waviers by the Pirates. Found this to be interesting because of the club and the Pirates record of helping pitchers. I hope not but this could be a fail on the Twins part, we shall see.
  20. None of the above. Everyone with the same surgery as Phil Hughes has not come back well. Until we know more. Pass Sign Darvish or Cobb(think his price is low).
  21. Like the idea, but 2 is a house build on sand. Buxton is essential and I feel you need to make every effort to sign him long term. Sano is also essential, but I feel signing him is at best 50 - 50, so you have to have plan B (I have posted mine in another thread). Like most of the rest of it.
  22. Twins have a lot of money coming off the books after 2018. There are extensions to be discussed, but revenue should be up along with attendance ( this usually tracks about a year behind). I feel this would be the year because of the number of big market teams wanting to get under the luxary tax before next years massive FA class. It is time to go big and I am an optimist.
  23. Twins need starting and relief pitching. They also need to explore long term extensions with the young core. Have some disagreements here 1. Do not extend Dozier. Let some other team pay him. 2. Buy Darvish if you can, otherwise Chatwood or Cobb. Do not want Lynn. 3. Nisacio is fine, would rather have another high impact reliever along with him, but can hope the farm can fill these needs. 4. Lock up Sano, if he refuses look for a club with multiple pitchers some very good ones close to major league ready, some lottery tickets with high upsides.
  24. Yes we need to make some trades to the less fortunate teams for a better talent or a major league pitcher. This might be difficult, so the offseason should be interesting.
