  1. Color him gone. Twins have better and cheaper options.
  2. I would try, but do'nt think Baker will take it. He can get more from other clubs.
  3. We have a glut of outfielders coming up and next year will probably not matter as to who we have. It is time to see what we have on the farm and trade for pitching prospects as the FA market is both going to be crowded and expensive. So any chips that do not cost a lot of money should be traded to teams that have a surplus of young pitching. That would mean that 2 out of 3 (Span, Willingham, and Parmalee) should be traded if the deal is right. We have both Arcia and Hicks who could be here next year and would not make a big difference in performance.
  4. I would like to say yes, but too many things would have to go right for that to happen. Baltimore and Oakland both had it happen this year, but that will require the Twins scouts to make all correct judgements on the trades for pitchers. Twins need to trade for some close to ready prospect pitchers, not impossible but not likely. Clubs value pitching more highly than 30 years ago. Marcum would be the best Twins option on the Fa market and resigning Baker, if he even wants to be here, would help. A trade for some better minor league pitchers with stuff, or finding one or two on the scrap heap would help. Still would like to find one better middle infielder(steven Drew anyone).
  5. De Vries could easily be the 5th starter or long relief. I do not feel he will last, but is a good story at this time. I think Hendriks should be sent back to Rochester until his head clears(but still do not know if he has major league stuff). That leaves Diamond, Deduno, Hopefully a couple of FA's and one other spot between 3 to 4 pitchers. I do not think outside of Swarzak anyone on this staff could fill the long relief spot like De Vries
  6. I hope Burnett is not on the team, it will mean we have improved. Do not expect Manship or Vasquez here either. Swarzak could fail because he is now arbitration eligible and we should not be paying him much to be a long reliever. Maybe De Vires could fill that role. Walters will need to show more to make it next year, so we still need 2 pitchers to come from somewhere(trades).
  7. I would hope that either Arcia or Hicks will make the club out of spring training. That would mean an outfielder would have to be moved, as it would make no sense to carry them north as a 4th outfielder. Twins should work to this plan as it is unlikely they will contend in 2013
  8. I also agree, but feel that at least one of the New Britian outfielders will force their way on the opening day roster. So the Twins need to trade an outfielder, if not now in spring training.
  9. Hendriks has the problem stated above, no out pitch in the majors. Good teams mash this type of pitch and unless he can get more movement on his pitchers, he may top out as a triple a starter. At least this will help Rochester next year, Blackburn, Hendriks, Vasquez and Hernandez as part of a starting rotation with a decent pen should make them a contender. Twins still need to sign at least 2 decent FA pitchers or trade hitting assets to obtain them(more likely).
  10. I believe that Dozier will start at Rochester, probably after a quick spring demotion. He will have to hit to make it back. Twins will go with Floriman, Escobar and Carroll in the infield. Pressure will be on if Rosario starts in New Britian as he will have about a year to make it back, before the lower minor league talent catches up to him. This may only change if the Twins tender Casilla, but do not see this happening.
  11. With these numbers and hopefully good numbers in the Florida Instruction League, I hope the Twins would move Rosario to New Britain and skip Ft. Myers. Sano probably needs FT. Myers to start, because of defense and strikeout issues. Vargas will probably start at Ft. Myers because of his limited season this year. but would hope he is quickly moved to New Britain
  12. I believe it would be Willingham (no contest). He is also the most valueable to the Twins as their main right handed power hitter. He alone has made the lineup more dangerous, by splitting up Mauer and Morneau so a lefty specialist has much less affect on the Twins. This would make him the hardest piece to replace and why TR wanted the most for him.
  13. I believe we still have Jared Burdon for the 8th inning next year. That gives the Twins two years to find extra relievers, by then some will hopefully come from the minors, as many of the better relievers in the minors are already in New Britian.
  14. I agree they are at least 2 quality starters away. That being said, the clubs that need first base help are the clubs without big budgets, Parmalee and Span will have more value to bring pitching from those clubs. With some of the big spending clubs needing pitching, I expect the price on reasonable starting pitching to be out of site, therefore a trade is the only option.
  15. I think this might come from Span not telling the medical staff or the manager how much he was hurt after the dive he took in August. It will be interesting to see how much he is used when he comes back. That being said, he should be used all the time and showcased for a winter trade, if he does not come back in time, it would almost have to be a spring training trade to get full value for him.
  16. Take the BPA. Appel will have to sign for reasons noted above. Do not trust Boras, as he could be looking for a player to be a test court case on the major league draft. Twins seem to have done OK with sandwich pick pitching this year and next years second pick will be in that range as there will be less sandwich picks.
  17. I agree with the comments that starting pitching is the first priority. I do not think a middle infielder will be a big priority this offseason, Let's see what we have next year.
  18. I never fully check out, but almost never watch an entire game. Too much of life to do. I follow how the callups do and the minor leaguers as this early on was a lost year. It is fun now to see if the Yankees can collapse and finish on the outside looking in. A Yankee failure would really make the FA market difficult. They would be under severe pressure from their fan base to spend over the luxury tax threshold and just 'Win baby Win' If the owners take that approach, It will put a lot of pressure on the FA market for all the lower clubs as they will have to wait for the trickle down FA's to reach their price range or maybe they never will.
  19. Nice that you guys are in fantasy land. Joe Torre was a great overuser of his bullpen and needed new bullpen pitchers every year or two. Look how many arms he burned out. The overuse of relief pitchers is a very high reason for team collapes(look at Atlanta last year). By the end of August the Atlanta bullpen was gassed and they faded out of contention in September. Jim Johnson may be one of the pitchers that can only be used for 20-30 pitches a night. If used more, he may not be available for a day or two, that would be worse than losing any one game(and he may win this one anyway)
  20. In terms of return Span will probably bring a B prospect, Revere would bring very little until he proves himself again next year Revere will be viewed as a Juan Pierre, value, but not going to bring a good pitching prospect in return. Span could be bring more, but paired with a Parmalee could bring a solid B or more from the clubs looking for hitting (read Tampa Bay and Seattle). Oakland may also fit in this class, but they look more solid than the prior two clubs. FA pitchers are going to be expensive. I expect New York and Boston to both be looking among other clubs. This will probably make the market price higher than the Twins or other small to mid market teams will want to pay, so trades will be the only way. Span is due back in mid September and I hope he finishes well, otherwise the Twins will be left with the choice of trading Willingham for pitching or waiting until spring training, that would not be a good way to go.
  21. I believe several of the mentioned above players will be outrighted at the end of the season, Manship, Carson, Butera, maybe Walters and De Vires. My guess is the roster will have to be cleared to add players that will need to be protected from the Rule 5 draft. Have not had time to research the players that need to be added(sorry), but have seen a couple of lists in prior posts. Also add Casilla to the list of probably will be outrighted as he has been given 3 chances to take the position and is 0 - 3.
  22. Seems like the Twins have a glut of outfielders, that could help in trading for some pitching. Benson will probably start in Rochester, this is a make or break year for him. Could get back in the top 10 and make the major leagues at some time next year or fall of the map and off the front line prospect list. Twins seem to start most of the top end propects from Elizebethon at Beloit and move them up if warrented. I am hoping the twins move several of the Beliot stars to New Britian. Fr Myers numbers seem to be off in the pitchers favor for most players.
  23. Cannot tell range from the fielding numbers. I like the plate disipline however, that cannot be easliy taught. Should see both in New Britian next year and get a better read from that.
  24. Slama has been judged not to have the stuff for the major leagues. Do we need to waste more time on this. Maybe the feeling on Dozier was he needed to grow up and take responsibility, this could not be done in 3 weeks. Twins need to find out what they have now and move on, not spread AB's and innings into small samples. Grey will probably not be here next year. Twins brass seems to like Swarzak better than Manship or they are viewed as the same type of pitcher. Remember every loss now helps our draft position next June
  25. Maybe we should add one more stop to the Span trade list this winter, Do not know how many pitching prospects the Braves have that they could sell. Is this the same pitcher(Minor) who was with Detroit a few years ago. IF so would not want anything to do with him.
