  1. I think the TD staff does a wonderful and somewhat thankless job. Running out posters down with very negitive comments should be curtained, maybe first with private offline discussions and then if continued with public comments. For all that is said Thyrlos is far from the most negitive poster on this site. However deliberate running down of a specific poster or posters(especially if they are new, is a quick way to become and irrelivent site). All people(posters) make mistakes, give the newbies some rope and I think you did a great job of ending the pileon a Thyrosses error. This forum is for information and is supposed to be fun.
  2. Which is why the Twins should inquire on RIcky Nolasco(Stopgap1 to 2 years). I would offer like a Joe Benson as all Miami may want is salary relief. Outside of that they need a new ownership group.
  3. Very good article. I feel they can go inbetween, but it is tricky. I agree with most of the article, but feel that Parmalee is a better trade chip than Morneau. Most of the teams with excess pitching are looking for good young players, not expensive veterens(Seattle may of changed).
  4. Huner will help Detroit. It just means a couple of their non performers will probably not be back(Bosech, Raburn)/
  5. He seems to me to be about the same as Alex Burnett. I would pass.
  6. I have been in favor of getting Drew for a long time. It will give us a chance for filling the middle infield without breaking the bank. He could be good again, do not know what he wants, but a 2 - 3 year contract at a reasonable rate would not hurt If it does not work ou, you may be able to flip him at the deadlinte. This is only money, no players required.
  7. This is the issue with all small and mid market teams. If Morneau wants to stay let him sign a reasonable extension in the near future so the Twins have cost certainty with him. I hate to trade Span, but he is in the only area the Twins have excess talent, so you have to give value to get value. It looks like the Twins will only have money for 1 FA pitcher at this market price. I also feel that giving a pitcher more than 4 years is a losing strategy unless he is and obvious ace(and the Twins seem not to have the money to sign these). I still hope they sign Marcum at what is looking like about 3 for $30 mil and trade for 2 - 3 other starters. Diffilcult yes, impossible no.
  8. Maybe worth a look if cheap(like Revere or Benson).
  9. It appears the Blue Jays have upped the stakes in the east. This will make life difficult for all the other teams in the division. They may not be the favorite in the east, but they certainly made themselves the equal of the Yankess and the Rays. Should make an interesting couple of weeks. This may help the Twins as Shawn Marcum was rumored to be going to the Jays and this looks like it will not happen now.
  10. This assumes the Twins do not add ptiching this offseason. Adding a couple of pitchers would get us to the area that is discussed above, middle 70's in wins. Adding 3 ptichers and a shortstop could get us to about .500. At that point luck could go either way. As long as we do not trade future(top of the line ) prospects, this seems to me to be a reasonable way to go.
  11. Twins will have to overpay to get pitching. Shawn Marcum, Anibel Sanchez, and others are better bets. Do not think Sanchez will want to come here, but there are other options, issue is you either have to make trades or sign the other options. Clubs do not seem to be waiting for the market to shake out or see who will not be tendered a contract. I believe the Twins have to sign(and probably overpay) a decent pitcher to come here or the market will pass the Twins by as being illrelevent. Then they will really have to overpay to get a player or pitcher to come here. Is this uncomfortable, yes, but doing nothing is not an option if TR wants to fill seats next year. Trading Span and others for pitching prospects may be the better way to go, but that might be one step back before moving forward. That could cripple the Twins payroll for years after 2014 and the hype of the All Star Game has worn off. Best line is to sign some pitchers and then flip them at the deadline for prospects if it does not work out. Playroll may have to go back to about $100 million for this to work, but I now feel the numbers in the Twins Handbook may be low for pitchers, I hope not, but that is the way it is trending. In this case you may have to spend money to make money.
  12. I do not think Baker signing with the Cubs was about the Twins or winning chances. It was about the money and the ability to market himself next year. Twins may have to move faster and spend more than they want to improve for next year. Other clubs seem to be doing this.
  13. A lot of money. It almost make Sanchez look good at 6 years for $90. Now it looks like he will get than. TR looks like he has to make some signings early to make this happen and it will be more money than expected. Such is life.
  14. I am not good at numbers, but both of those numbers posted looked reasonalble to me. September happened because this was the first year in 3 Morneau had played a full season. I do not think his trade value is that high execpt for a sarlary dump trade, take from Baltimore supports that premise. I support trading Parmalee as an addition to an outfieder to optain pitching value in return. Most teams looking to trade pitching are small market and cost adverse.
  15. Would like to see him start in Cedar Rapids and move up to Ft. Myers if he pitches well in the Midwest league. Need to move these arms up as fast as they can take it.
  16. Hope TR gets other teams involived. We need more options(like Tampa Bay or Seattle). All of these teams have excess pitching and want outfielders. Span seems to be considered to get a mid level pitcher from the Braves, Hope we can find more elsewhere(maybe with another prospect or Parmalee).
  17. Would do it if it is Revere, need defensive SS who might hit a bit. Would not preclude trading Span for pitching. Like the idea, Twins need to do something. Could start Hicks or Benson in CF if Span is traded for pitching. I also have been lobbing for Stephen Drew. Would be a better option, but depend on price.
  18. If he gets 6 years for 90 this market is out of whack. 3 - 4 years is the max I would pay for a pitcher that rates to be a #2 or #3 starter. It may be that $15 mil a year may be standard.
  19. Would prefer Span was traded elsewhere, but this may be the best option. I am not enamered with the Braves pitchers, but Twins may have to take chances to get arms into the system. Tampa Bay has better options, but also the reputation of getting the best of trades.
  20. If he is needed to complete a trade for pitching, I would throw him in. Do not think he will be more than a fringe major leagurer and the Twins have many outfielders coming in the next 3 years. Also agree with the thought that Roberts should start in New Britian.
  21. I would pay Span and Parmalee. That is dealing from excess to get a front line starter. Rays may wnat to deal Hellickson instead and I wonder what it would take. Twins seem like a good fit to Tampa as they have a couple of cost controled players for a pitcher or two. Twins outfield prospects should be ready by 2014 - 2015. This helps buy time as I expect at least one of the prospects to be ready this year.
  22. Lots of unknowns here. Velocity decline this year would have me worried. I assume the Royals checked his medical reports. Still think Twins could do better than this. Would be interested in what the Angels wanted for Haren and how much salary the Twins would have to take on to work a deal. Move by the Royal was better than doing nothing. A low level prospect to the Angels for Haren and cash is intreging.
  23. I feel that either he or Arcia should be here to start the year. If this means moving Span, Revere or Morneau so be it. Twins need to get some major league exposere for there players and this would be a way to do. The only reason not to would be if management has put extra money in to be competitive next year.
  24. This is good news as it has one more possibility for fill in - some is always needed.
  25. Do not like Boras for a contract. May try and get a free agent year or two early. Twins still have little to lose so why don't they go for it. They need pitching, this may be a way. Depends on the contract and the amount of money to spend. Expect it will get above the Twins level(Boston, Yankees, and others)
