  1. I believe that is why he said for 2013 and beyond.
  2. The Kirby comparisons make my head hurt. But for the sake of nipping it in the bud I will point out that Puckett always had some gap power in the minors (along with hitting 10 HR in 800 at bats- not a ton but way more than Revere) Puckett also hit plenty of doubles etc, so a guy like him increasing his Home Run power was the most unexpected thing in the world. Revere on the other hand has never had gap power in the minors or the majors, he is a singles hitter, he will not suddenly go from being a singles hitter to hitting 10+ Home Runs a year. Can Revere hit a home run before breaking the record? Yes Will he ever come close to anything that resembles Home Run power? No
  3. Revere did manage to hit 5 HR in the minor leagues, I'm curious to know how many actually cleared a fence. I can't see Revere ever getting more than 1 HR in a single season in the majors, but if Jason Tyner can clear a fence I imagine Revere to manage to do it in the next 4 years.
  4. I will name my first born child, BYTO after you
  5. Part of me hopes he ends up with enough professional At bats though to be included in the Baseball Reference voting system, which currently has Juan Castro as dead last of 1200 career hitters or so.
  6. I don't see whats wrong with it, clearly he is saying the Twins will miss the playoffs by not winning the division but will allowed to play in a post season bowl game. I'm guessing it will be the Meinke Car Service Bowl personally.
  7. Can someone explain to me why the hell Butera was allowed to hit with the freaking bases loaded and Liriano already out of the game?!?!?! It's one thing to give Butera (who literally might be the worst hitter in the history of baseball with 500+ PA) starts for some absurd reason like "He is the Latin Pitcher Whisperer," but to keep him in a 3 run game with the bases loaded...ugh...there is no excuse for that. I'm happy the Twins won and all, but these are the decisions that will eventually burn them in the future, and if the Twins have any chance to get back into the race the margin for error lies somewhere between slim and none.
  8. Yeah, they doubled the price to $35! Bastards.
  9. Mets, Nationals and Mariners.
  10. I assumed they just enjoyed playing so much in the NL that they decided to keep at least one guy in the lineup who has no chance of getting multiple hits in a game.
  11. Cntrl+F= "Doumit" zero results found. Cntrl+F= "Butera" one result found WHY?
  12. I am. Mods please BAN him.
  13. A week ago Vegas had the Twins as 150:1 odds to win the central. I'd say that was pretty generous, especially with the fact that Detroit is starting to play a little better and the White Sox just got a big boost to the lineup.
  14. No, we would not have gotten two picks for Matt Capps. We would have gotten 1 because he was not a type A. You can certainly make the argument that they should have taken the pick, but if Capps comes back healthy he should be able to net us a decent enough prospect where at the end of the day it is a wash. Everybody hates Capps but the guy has been pretty dependable as a closer this year prior to the shoulder issue. It was far from the worst signing in the world and the Twins had gotten there moneys worth on him up to this point. Worrying about an arbitration clock for a guy like Tyler Robertson is completely pointless. Duensing will also prob not be limited to 60 pitches each start from here on out, they limited him to 60 his first start since he didn't really have time to stretch out. You bitch about the Pavano signing, but it really wasn't that bad as he has consistently given us 220 IP of around 4.30 ERA pitching, that is definitely worth the 8 million we are paying him, it sucks he is hurt and all but it is what it is.
  15. Why do you want Mauer to be playing in RF next year?!? He has proven to be pretty effective/healthy overall behind the plate this year.A power hitting RF is nice in theory but who exactly do you bring in? Especially with leaving plenty of money left over to sign a bunch of SP like you suggest? Hunter is hardly a "power hitter" but has hit 20+ the past 9 of the last 10 seasons and is on pace to do so again this year. Not to mention he would mostly come pretty cheaply on a one year deal. 1 year 5/6 million would be my guess, and even if it was 1 year/7.5 million you have to remember that no one year deal is really that bad of a deal.
  16. I'm not so sure it is nepotism as it is the Twins just needed another RP out of Rochester and guys like Oliveros and Slama were both unavailable via injury, plus for right or wrong they needed a LHP and Robertson had some decent number this year. I have a hard time seeing where nepotism dictated bad transactions in the past, last I checked Toby never made the majors and Butera was acquired in a salary dump when Castillo was let go.
  17. We wouldn't have to give up a pick to take him, for the Angels to even qualify for an extra pick they would have to offer him a one year/12-13 mil dollar deal (Qualifying offer) which they will not do, unless he starts suddenly hitting like an MVP and can figure out a way to shave 5 years off his legs I get playing the youngsters, but at this point sadly I don't see a ton of Twins players in the minors being major league ready/knocking on the door very soon. Revere already has his spot as long as he keeps playing well obviously, and if there is an opening in the OF/DH heading into next year a guy like Hicks or Benson have quite a ways to go. For what its worth Benson is a complete and utter mess this year (prior to going on the DL I believe) he hit .176 (.584) at AAA with a 28% K rate, and has hit only .156 (.500 OPS) at AA so far. Needless to say Benson needs to show me quite a bit more before I even consider him a full time major leaguer at this point, ideally in the ideal Twins perfect he comes back strong from the injury and mashes forcing himself into the conversation, but if he isn't ready to be trusted in the majors by opening day 2013 and one of Span/Doumit is gone, you prob should take a look at bringing Hunter in on a 1 year deal. He is having family issues, but its seems to not be a huge distraction as he was only gone a week and still remains effective and in good spirits (see: the Astronaut interview he did this week)
  18. Errors are a terrible way to judge a player defensively. I have heard nothing in any reports that indicate he is over-matched defensively at the position thus far. He isn't in Beloit because he is still very young and because he didn't exactly tear up the league last season. If he somehow continues to keep hot he will be up there sooner then later. They won't promote a player after 5 games.
  19. Please define a "B" prospect for me? Because the fact is Span is a very solid CF with a nice bat and a very fair contract, I think we can do better than a couple B prospects (or at least what I consider a B prospect), I'm not saying the Twins need to trade Span, but if they can get back a high upside pitcher who has #2 stuff or so I think you need to seriously consider it, esp if said player has a few years of team control going on. Also we wouldn't lose a draft pick for Hunter as the CBA has changed and even in the old CBA we wouldn't lose a pick I believe since we will most surely finish in the bottom half, in addition the only way the Angels would gain a pick would be to offer Hunter a qualifying offer which would be around 1year/13 million which I highly doubt they do.
  20. I'm more of a proponent of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" I just don't see what good can/will happen by putting Duensing back into the bullpen both short and long term. Also, the recent struggles/injuries of Bard and Feliz have me a bit gun-shy of taking a good solid bullpen guy and throwing him into the rotation again. I wish Duensing could just focus on improving his ability to be a solid bullpen guy moving forward.
  21. .250, but as it usually does Average only tells a small part of the story.
  22. How on earth did I miss this thread?!?!
  23. The Twins wouldn't trade Span in order to create room for Hunter, they would most likely trade Span to improve in other areas such as obtaining a young high upside starting pitcher or middle infielder. If the Twins have Span/Revere/Willingham and Doumit heading into next year then there is frankly no room for Hunter, however if one of them don't return (Span via trade or Doumit via trade/leave FA) then there is certainly some at bats for Hunter. Heck, a Span/Hunter/Revere OF with Willingham as DH isn't the worst thing in the world if you think about it.
  24. The worst part about a 30 man roster is you would have at least one or two guys that has absolutely no business being on a major league roster ever or even a AAA or AA roster. i.e. each team would instantly go out and sign the fastest 40 yard dash guy they could find to simply be late inning pinch runners and nothing else. I personally think a 25 man roster is just fine, maybe you allow teams to stretch it to 26 in the world series just so that a pitcher never comes up to bat in the bottom of the 13 inning in an important game. Though I imagine a guy like Drew Butera would be a fan of the 30 man roster, he would end up being a 20 year vet.
