  1. So if is less than one you assume the players are valued the same? So Sano =Abad last year?
  2. Again this goes to my main issue with WAR: the over rating of defense. I don't care how many awesome catches Buxton has, when he has an OPS below .300 he is a net negative on this team. Of course I think he will turn it around, but the first few weeks? Buxton certainly cost us more games then he won, no doubt about it.
  3. That's your opinion.
  4. When I checked bwar it had Sano behind Abad. WAR isn't pointless, it's just not the end all be all that some people make it out to be. I think it tells just a PART of a story, along with OPS, BA, XBH, HR, R, WRC+, VORP, and yes even stats like RBI. Fielding advanced metrics: too many issues, give me the eye test any day. Buxton is elite in CF, Hicks is elite in corner Of, Sano is fine at 3B
  5. Rubes yes. I'm talking about the media though, they only got on Mauer the minute he signed his massive deal. Prior to that he was treated as the baby Jesus. This isn't a bash Mauer thing at all btw, just pointing out the Minneapolis medias somewhat obvious racial basis.
  6. WAR said that Abad, Kintzler and Rosario were all significantly more valuable then Sano last year, and that Nunez (traded half way into season) was still twice as valuable as Sano. Sorry, it's a flawed stat. Especially when factoring in defense for non elite positions (CF/SS) and non elite defenders at those positions and every other position. Nothing is more over-rated in WAR than "great" RF/LF or 1B/3B defense.
  7. Yup, and average is just fine. My biggest problem with wAR is how it completely over rates defense in a lot of cases.
  8. Dad Joke +1
  9. It Sano ends the season with 40 HR and an ops of 1.000+ he will finish in the top 2 or 3 regardless of how many games the Twins lose.
  10. Santana, Berrios, Sano, Kepler, Buxton, Dozier are enough to keep them in the wild card race IMO. Dozier, Buxton and Berrios all need to step up though
  11. I know, I was just sorta being a smart ass in re: Bonds
  12. BABIP is irrelevant when you are mashing 60-70 dongs a year and getting 150 walks a year. When it comes to Bonds, the fact is not a whole lot of his at bats resulted in balls in play.
  13. Yup, also I know wins are pretty pointless when evaluating pitchers. But there is something to be said about a guy that won't give up leads and will "manage" the bad innings. I think Hughes settles in with a 4.30-4.60 ERA. Again, which is fine, you can make the playoffs if that is your #5.
  14. Hughes hasn't been sexy, but at least he doesn't have complete meltdowns every time something goes wrong. Hughes has pitched like a perfectly acceptable #5, which is fine.
  15. The fact that the country hasn't fallen apart gives me a lot of faith into democracy(the people) actually. Trump's power (as much as he hates it) is limited.
  16. Yeah, him hitting to CF and RF is super super super super encouraging, even moreso when those balls are going over fences.
  17. That's what results are. Can't lose games if you don't give up runs. All I heard was that the Wild were the "better" team then the Blues, but the Blues won 4 games to 1 and are still in the playoffs, the Wild are on the range. Results matter and are all that matter at the end of the day. The Twins weren't even close to being the "best" team in 87, and maybe not even one of the best 5 teams in baseball. Does that matter? Hell no!
  18. Yeah it was 2003. My bad. Durham was solid no doubt, 3.2 WAR, nothing to sneeze at no doubt. But again, when that is your 2nd best position player it's not like a Durham lead team (minus bonds) would be a better than .500 team (IMO)
  19. Results are ultimately what matter. Sale is the better pitcher, no doubt. But Santana has gotten the better results.
  20. Sorry, I meant 2003 (when they won 100 games) Kent was NOT on the 2003 team. He was on Houston in 2003 (where he lost .70 OPS after leaving the Bonds led Giants)
  21. Just look at the 2003 SF Giants: 100 Wins Bonds is the reason why that team won 100 games, no if's and's or butts. The 2nd best hitter on the squad was freaking JT Snow! With all of his 8 HR and .806 OPS Jason Schmidt had a good season as their ace, but the rest of the rotation: Reuter, Williams, Moss, Foppert? Definition of mediocre. Without a doubt that is a .500 team without the Barry. edit: changed 2002 to 2003
  22. Yes, I think that a player like Sano (who literally won 2 games in the last week with his bat alone) is a difference of 10-11 wins a season (if he keeps up what he is doing) Bonds in his prime I think was probably worth 20-25 wins per season, just the way teams had to approach him and all of that. Those Giant teams he were on were very very mediocre besides him, those teams were him, Jeff Kent, and a bunch of "meh" hell they won 97 games with Livan Hernandez as their ace. Without Bonds? 75 win team. Players like that make everyone around them that much better (look at how Kepler has come alive ever since they started putting him in front of or behind Sano)
  23. Fair enough. Though he definitely can't sustain what he has been doing: .129 BABIP and a 99% strand rate. Ultimately I think he ends up in the top 5 or so for Cy Young votes, but loses out. (Hopefully can end the season with a sub 2.80 ERA and 200+ IP, that would make me beyond pleased- and massive amount of trade value as well)
  24. Yeah, I never got it. It's the whole "we can't have nice things in Minnesota" type approach. I do wonder if their is a little racial and language bias in some of the reporting as well, since Sano doesn't fit the Parise, Mauer, Molitor "one of us, one of us" thing that Minnesotan's inexplicably love. Mauer as a youngster- spent his off-season in cabin with brothers/friends. "That's good" Sano as a youngster- spent his off-season going back to the DR to be with Friends and Family "IMMATURITY! IMMATURITY!" Could you imagine the commentary that Sano would be getting these days if he was dating Ms. America? "Distraction! Distraction!"
  25. I'm not saying he will have "11 WAR" I am saying that WAR in itself is flawed to begin with. I'm saying that his presence, bat and results an take a 70 win team and turn them into a .500 team. Ditto with Trout and the likes.
