Lineup construction is the most over-rated thing ever, with that said, when you are in a slump it makes sense to just "shake things up" for the hell of it. Mauer batting 2nd is nice if you have a guy who can get on base in front of him, but up until now that hasn't been the case.
I have said it before and will say it again, Hicks reminds me exactly of Hunters rookie year where he struggled quite a bit as well, I think its get that he is taking his lumps at the major league level and has been showing improvement in all aspects of his game. Hicks is going to be a real nice player for us (I still think basically Hunter 2.0 with a better eye at the plate and more speed on the basepaths) most likely won't be a perennial all-star but should be a nice player.
I would love to pay $7 for a beer, beers at NY stadiums are up to $12 each! Hell the bar next to my apartment in Brooklyn has no cheaper than $6 beers....ugh
Also when you have a guy who will go into the hall wearing your hat (and is a home town kid to boot) who is still in his prime, you absolutely do not trade him.
If the twins trade Mauer I would probably come close to ditching this team, they have a chance to be super competive come 2015, and if prospects continue to progress and they spend some of the 40 mil they have free after his year they could compete in 2014. We have the best farm system arguably in baseball, you hold onto Mauer for the next "phase"
Comparing hicks to dozier is pretty ridiculous. The fact is dozier is 26, has 500 almost PA in the majors and has a .571 ops. Other than a good 2011 in the minors the rest of his track record (see AAA) was pretty lackluster. I get he plays a sharp 2b, but if he isn't going to even hit for a .580 ops and you are going to keep him around he needs to be able to play a sharp SS and 3B
I still think they resign Justin to keep Mauer and the fans happy. Hell if we are going to give Correia 2 years/10 mil we might as well do it for morneau as well.
I would also offer Justin a 2 year/10-12 mil contract to stick around as a stop gap for a couple years, if he declines the extension then trade him for what you can since it would be foolish to give him a qualifying offer. Correia/Caroll you take anything for. If someone blows you away then trade Perkins as well, but to be honest I would be very bummed as he is one of my fav twins.
I wouldn't trade Doumit as he has much more value on the twins for 2014 than he would bring back in a trade. Last thing we want is more butera....the platoon with Mauer is working out just fine IMO I think you trade Willingham if the price is right, if things fall into place and Meyer/Gibson are ready next year I think the twins actually have a good shot to compete, so I wouldn't dump Willigham for some C level prospect just for the sake of doing so. Also the twins have a ton of money free next year already to make a splash with a real free agent pitcher signing.
