    I find it a bit annoying that baseball reference doesn't track these things. Especially for someone who is in several fantasy leagues that counts QS instead of "wins"

    I know this is going to sound really dumb, and prob will lose my stats credentials, but I have yet to find an advanced defensive metric that I think is worth much of a damn. I mean, when it comes to defense I think the "eye test" and scouts grades are truly the best way to measure. Though I am a big fan of advanced metrics for hitting and pitching, nobody has done a good job on defense and thus the more I look at WAR the more and more I find myself ignoring it. If I haven't seen a guy play defense much live/on TV then I will just go off a scouting report or ask someone else who watches enough games. It doesn't take a genius or huge sample size of games (50?) to realize if a guy is Amazing, Great, Very Good, Above Average, Average, Below Average, Mediocre, Bad, Poor, Delmon Young in the field. Perhaps maybe we should start figuring a way to grade a guy defensively on an F to A+ scale and figure out a way to assign "value" that way? Arm+Range+Speed+IQ all included, then perhaps you weight certain positions differently then others: i.e. SS, CF weighted more heavy then LF/RF/1B.

    If Correia pitches the rest of the year at replacement level (0.0) he will still be the 4th most effective SP (baker 2010, Pavano 2010, Diamond 2011) the Twins have had since the end of 2010.

    If he hits his xFIP the rest of the season (which has its flaws for non strike out pitchers IMO) then he still ends up with under a 4.00 ERA on the season. Which is let's face it, what 95% of people thought was impossible when crying that this 2 year 10 mil deal was just about the worst thing since Super Aids. One thing I will bring up, quality starts are far from a flawless stat, but when I look at guys at the back end of the rotation, I say that if they can get you 50-60% QS rate (the normal average year in year out is 52-55%) then I think you can be very happy with that. If your back end guy is giving you 6+ IP (thus not taxing the bullpen) and giving your team a good chance to win a game more often than not you are in a pretty good spot. The problem is though when your entire rotation is made up of back end type guys. FYI Correia is 7 for 7 so far QS wise. Zero complaints thus far obviously.

    Also people need to stop with the Ramon Ortiz comps/call backs. Ortiz was coming off of two terrible years before the Twins signed him (5.47+ ERA) while Correria was coming off two mediocre/borderline #5 years (4.49 ERA combined) With Correria there was always a decent chance he would preform good enough for a #5 and if not would be a mediorce/stop gap guy, Ortiz would have had to cut his ERA by a full run to even be considered a mediorce/stop gap option at best.

    Who cares, has he been lucky? Yeah, but it's not at a super insane clip. Obviously his strand rate and HR rate will both suffer, but keep in mind he has a 2.23 ERA, even if those make it jump an additional 1.80 ERA he is still easily worth the money owed to him and slots in as a pretty damn nice #4 or so, especially if he continues to give you 7+ innings per start. I think his FIP is somewhere in the low to mid 3.00s currently. So he is doing "something" right.

    Or it shows just how ridiculous UZR can be. As a CF last year he had a UZR/150 of 19.1 this year as a LF he has one of -10.5 I know its only a month into the season...but still... these "advanced" stats shouldn't be showing such ridiculous discrepancies.

    Yeah Delmon was really awful, but this is getting off topic. How is Harper the same as Parra and Marte? Harper is considered very "great" in the field...no? FYI: This topic was started by Heyman, so it's not like I am just pulling crap out of my proverbial ass.

    Again, go actually look at Harper's stats and compare them with Marte (a LF) and Parra. Tell me how they are equal in WAR, has Harper suddenly become Manny Ramierez in the field???

    That is fine, since pitchers seem to be helped by WAR what not anyways, and discussed in another thread, WAR is rather pointless in general for pitchers since you already know if they are getting effective results or not.

    Also what does "butera getting healthy" have to do with anything? At any time have they talked about wanting him on the roster? The only way we see Butera is if Mauer/Doumit get banged up for a game or two (or DL)

    I doubt Plouffe loses the 3rd base gig anytime soon, if they are ultimately ever "done" with him they will ship him off ala Valencia (note: I don't think they are even close to that point people just read to much into a temp benching) Ramierez is depth at best and Mastro is a 4th OF who shouldn't be starting more than once or twice a week anyways. They absolutely should NOT ship off Doumit as Mauer is probably only going to catch 120 games max this year. Those other 42 need to be started by Doumit...not Butera, you are probably talking about at least a loss or two difference in that alone. Also Doumit will be fine...it's still early.

    There is no real need to rush him at this level, the last thing you wanna do is throw him in AA and have him struggle a bit. He will be in AA plenty next year and will be ready for 2015.

I also like how he takes the stance that "Hey this guy may be a bust" and "Oh their have been good players picked in the 3rd round in the past!" Genius, pure genius.

    According to the "draft points thing" it was a pretty even trade. I would have preferred to hold onto the 3rd just so we had a pick tonight... but honestly a laterish 3rd round pick doesn't have a ton of value. Frankly, I hope we can somehow trade Toby and a 5th or 6th tonight for a 3rd round pick.
