  1. We still have a huge hole at LB though, hopefully we can find one, but so far, we got two insane talents at DT/WR who could honestly become the Warren Sapp/Randy Moss of this draft, the CB we got is solid as well, clearly an upgrade. I'd argue if we get to the mid to late part of the 2nd round we should trade up and grab Te'o as well. Or another LB. Either way, I give the Vikes an A+ thus far, they have done the best on "day one" by far.
  2. That first round was ****ing perfect!!!!
  3. I am having beers next week with a guy who was a scout for the Twins for 3 years (before deciding he wanted to start making real money about a year ago) he also has known Bill Smith for about 20 years and said Smith is a lot more intelligent then the results indicated. He (the scout) also is very well versed in sabre-metrics etc To settle this stupid notion that Ryan doesn't understand more than basic stats I will ask him personally if the front office is aware of WAR, BABIP etc, I am pretty sure he will laugh and think its a dumb question since its pretty evident that Ryan understands..., but hopefully it will allow us to put this stupid notion that gets thrown around multiple times per season to rest.
  4. Yes, clearly the entire front offense is just inept all around, what a great analysis. I mean if someone could spend a couple hours and make better decisions why aren't we all getting GM jobs left and right? I KNOW PEOPLE DAMNIT!!!
  5. My math is prob off but meh....A lineup comprised solely of Nick Punto, CC Sabathia(batting) and Drew Butera would score about 85-95 more runs (8-10 wins) then that of the Miami Marlins over the course of a 162 game season
  6. Give Hicks another 100-150 at bats. If its still bad, someone like Benson or such will have played themselves into contention. You can always make a trade down the road as well if it gets dire. Maybe you give Rosario a cup of coffee in CF? Though he really isn't even close to ready...
  7. Yes, it's Gardy's fault that Torri Hunter forgot how to catch a fly ball and the entire offense besides Cuddyer and Mauer forgot how to swing the bat in the post season.
  8. Actually Gardy would be snatched up pretty quickly, the chatter in NY is that if he is ever let go by the Twins the Mets would bring him in in a heartbeat. People tend to forget that for about 5-6 straight years Gardy was always in the top 5 for manager of the year.
  9. I personally like Gardy and hope he is around come 2014m but there is zero reason to extend him now, if the Twins are in the hunt in August/Sept, then sure go ahead and toss him another 2 years or something. With that said, if they lose 90+ games I think you have to make a change for the sake of making a change.
  10. WAR for pitchers is pretty pointless to be honest. Either a pitcher is good or he isn't, it's pretty cut and dry. It's not like he is a position player where WAR is taking 3 things (hitting, fielding, base-running into factor) for a pitcher it's just taking into factor "how good of a pitcher is he"
  11. From the sounds of the "experts" it won't take as much this year to move up. If the Vikes can package their first round pick and a third round to move up high enough to draft Austin, I think they have to seriously consider it. Jennings+Austin is a pretty nice start to a WR corp to be honest. I'm not a huge Te'o fan, but if you end up with him at 25 I think he could be a nice steal. Let's be honest, with the way "hype, ESPN, etc" works, if he has even a decent National Championship game and the whole fake girlfriend thing doesn't come out, we are prob looking at a guy who goes in the top 5 possibly or top 10 for sure. So my ideal draft: Trade up to get Austin (true gamechanger) draft Teo (or some other LB) and then spend the 2nd round pick on a CB. And find a OG somewhere in the 4th round (or trade up to the 3rd round again to grab one) Load up on LB, CB, WR, CB the rest of the draft. Also if Landry Jones is sitting around in the 4th round, snatch him up.
  12. Ha, well to be fair, they are having serious health issues/delays with 3 of their top 4 highest paid players on the roster. Could you imagine if this was happening with Mauer, Morneau and Willingham? Twinsdaily would be a toxic wasteland!
  13. Whatever it was called, it was awesome and much better than tonight where I have decided to spend my late hours debating the Twins medical staff.
  14. Ha. The pain subsided eventually. But man, that was a tough 6 hours or so.
  15. Every team has these issues though! I just spent 3 hours in a bar with a Yankees fan friend of mine who laughed at this notion when I brought it up to him. His rebuttal: "**** I wish we had the Twins issue when it came to misdiagnosed injuries, our 180 mil man Texierias timetable just got pushed back at least a month and Mr. Baseball Jeter himself just got pushed back 2+ months, don't even get me started on A-Rod!"
  16. Didn't the Twins replace several members of the training staff this year? Or was that just wishful thinking. My only problem with the Twins is when you have some back up like Mastrio and he is going to miss more than 3 or 4 games you need to just stick him on the DL, especially considering he is very replaceable. If it's Mauer/Morneau or one of the SP I understand waiting a few extra days to be honest. Then again, if Mastrio wasn't being 100% forthright it's on him quite a bit as well. A lot of times people are good at masking pain/injury. For instance, I got hit in the nuts last Sunday during my baseball game (I was told I was DHing and at the last minute put in at 1st base), nobody knew I had gotten hit or was hurt until I literally thought I was going to vomit in the dugout the following half inning. The only real way to find out if a guy is withholding pain is to give him a physical before and after every game. But I imagine the players union wouldn't be thrilled with having their players "turn their heads and cough" 300+ times a year.
  17. It's fine, but it gets brought up EVERY SINGLE TIME a Twins player gets injured or has surgery. Last year with Baker was the most ridiculous considering they didn't even know he needed Tommy John until he had his arm cut open. Some of these injuries can just be fickle and every team deals with them, misdiagnosis or what not.
  18. I do enjoy when people who have no experience in the medical field try to second guess doctors who often times are at the top of their fields. It always comes off as silly to me. The Yankee doctors missed a second fraction on Jeter until recently...these things happen all the time in baseball/sports/life in general, things take times to diagnose.
  19. Anyteam can over come one bad contract, it's when you start talking about multiple bad contracts when things get dicey
  20. Also I'd like to point out that I am pretty sure if the Twins signed an additional AAAA guy or whatever to share the CF role with Mastro out of spring training (while sending Hicks to AAA) people would have been going insane with calls of having Ryan fired etc. Hindsight is nice and all, but I still think they did the right decision bringing Hicks north to start the year.
  21. Borbon is not a good ball player, I would rather have Hicks take his hacks then watch Borbon waste time.
  22. Ding ding! It's nice to see him fully healthy, and other than a dreadful series in Kansas City Joe has been on fire. It's amazing how much better this team is when he is producing like that. We all like to nitpick the ever living **** out of everything on here and its nice to be reminded that, hey at least we have one of the best catchers of all time playing for us!
  23. Why on earth would you need 3 CF's on the opening day roster? Especially another "on the bubble one" Any "on the bubble one" would probably prefer to take a job where he had a better chance of not starting the season in AAA. The Twins have screwed the pooch in depth at positions, but CF is seriously the least of my worries. I am much more concerned about what happens when the MI inevitably falls apart like it always does.
  24. What was the great alternative then? Keep in mind this is a rebuilding team, so hanging onto Revere or whatever would have been a mistake IMO, and it wasn't worth signing anyone on the free agent market since Mastro at the very least could have equaled their output. (Assuming a cheap 1 year 1-2 mil a year type player) Hicks was an unknown but tore it up towards the end of last year and in spring training. I was perfectly happy rolling with him and Mastro to start the year. If absolute need be we can always find some scrub AAAA to fill in for a bit if we need. I'd rather just give Hicks another 100 at bats or so to see if he can turn it around or so.
