  1. I don't really care to argue the semantics of what a fetus is or isn't. It's a women's right issue, not a barely developed fetus issue. I think the shaming and stigma around abortions and people who choose to get them is appalling and many of the folks who shame these people are the same who refuse to give a dollar to a homeless mother on the street. The "pro life" crowd seems to care so much about the kid until it is actually born, then at that point they really seem to care less.
  2. The only *people.
  3. Span is a top player (7th in WAR over the last 2.5 years) playing an elite position, anything less than Meyer becoming at least a very good #3 or an elite closer type pitcher will be a clear loss. I still don't mind the trade, just wish they could have gotten Washington to toss in an extra guy or two at the time.
  4. Yeah that is completely false and further more just proves Mikes earlier point. 99.9% of scientists would refute what you just said, the only ones who agree with it are the Rick Perry's, Donald Trumps and the Koch Brothers of the world.
  5. Not really, parasite might be the wrong word but it doesn't make his point any less valid.
  6. I agree Gomez was rushed by the Mets, and then the Twins, but anyone could see the talent was there. (Opening day cycle for instance) The Twins really screwed up with him though, instead of nurturing his 5 tool talent, Gardy and co tried to turn him into a slap single (heh) hitting type of guy. Yes, Span had come on, but Span was hitting enough to be a RF with Gomez in CF (giving the Twins a helluva an OF) Sorry, I can't give the Twins a pass on giving up on a 5 tool prospect who was showing some flashes of brilliance in the majors (and was still not even 24 years old!!!) and had headlined the trade for the best pitcher in baseball only a couple years prior. The Twins gave up on him way too quickly because he wouldn't mold himself into Nick Punto version 2.0. No excuses for that. Let's not pretend like Hardy was some major haul at the time either, he was a non tender candidate for the Brewers as they had already decided to move on from him and likely could have been had for next to nothing. The same exact thing happened with David Ortiz, guy showed flashes of brilliance and talent and the Twins tried to change him to something he is not. Two hall of fame caliber players and all we have to show for it is Nunez and Escobar at DH and 1 year of JJ Hardy at SS. Sweet.
  7. Yeah, I think Pelfrey could be amazing out of the pen, however he has earned at least another couple starts in the rotation IMHO.
  8. That touches on another point of some insurances not paying for birth control, which is just ludicrous! Hey, insurance company, you know what costs more than $80 a month for the pill? A freaking baby and all of the medical stuff that goes into it! (I understand this is a very simplistic look at things but seriously, birth control should be covered 100% for all women, if my taxes/insurance premium goes up a couple bucks a year I am all for it)
  9. My main issue with the death penalty is the fact that there have been several cases that have been overturned due to new DNA evidence or new evidence but it's too late as the state has already put said person to death, also it ends of wasting a lot of money and time in the courts, appeals etc and I'm also not sure it's a very good idea to be putting the mentally disabled to death either. However, my stance on that does chance in extreme cases: i.e. I think Timothy McVeigh deserved the death penalty as does this Charleston shooter. I am 100% pro abortion, the last thing this country needs is unwanted children which ends up being a burden on society as a whole more often then not, especially from families that likely can't afford another kid. Personally, I wouldn't have one at this stage in my life since I could support a child (at least financially, poor bastard wouldn't have a chance when it came to his sports teams though) but if I honestly look back to when I was 16-20 years old, I am not sure I would make the same choice as I would now.
  10. Wow, I didn't realize his OBP was that high.
  11. Speaking of Morneau, I wonder if he is one of those players cited above who would have nothing but positive things to say about Hunter.
  12. What's amazing to me is that the Twins probably have the worst CF production the last 3 years, meanwhile in those 3 years, Span has a wRC+ of 118 and is above average in CF defensively. (8.4 WAR in 2.5 years). Gomez is just a stud all around with a wRC+ of 127 and amazing CF defensive and has an eye popping 14.1 WAR over the past 2.5 seasons. I don't know what I am going for here, but it is clear to me that the Twins have greatly undervalued talented (Gomez) and productive (Span) CF's. Hopefully the lesson will be learned to have patience with Hicks and Rosario and to not trade them before they can reach their potential. They obviously will have patience with Buxton.
  13. LOL! Some people like to hear themselves talk, which I am more than happy to oblige by letting them talk all they want on a meaningless conference call while I chat away re: the Minnesota Twins. (Or when I work from home it's often a good time to get some quality time in with some xBox or the latest episode of whatever HBO show I am currently watching. Rocketpig bless conference calls!
  14. He has to cut the ks down, or else he is a mark Reynolds type (which still has a little value) as a .200 BA, .230 OBP guy who hits 30 HR
  15. Would you still do it?
  16. Sadly this game was over after the first inning, this offense wasn't going to score 4 runs all game regardless. Meyer looks like a mess.
  17. If you have a better idea on how to spend time while on a conference call I'm all ears!
  18. What intangibles do you speak too? The offense other than Dozier and Plouffe has taken a huge step back (I doubt you can credit Hunter for their improvement) Neither Hicks or Buxton has looked solid yet. The offense as a whole has let the Twins down the past several weeks etc.
  19. I think that is a little bit much, he has earned his money THUS far I guess, but if his numbers nose dive in the 2nd half I don't think most of us will go "well since he had a .769 OPS in the first half, its all good" The reality is Hunter ranks 26th out of 58 OF for OPS+ and is at the very least below average defensively any more. I wouldn't say he has already "earned" his money.
  20. It's pretty simple IMO Call up Sano, send Vargas back down. Sano is your every day DH and sometimes spells Plouffe at 3B.
  21. Under my avatar it says: 1 warning points. That should read: 1 warning point plz fix Brock Or maybe you can just change to: 1 warning point(s) That way when I get one more it doesn't have to change and can be: 2 warning point(s)
