  1. Getting a young catcher doesn't preclude you from getting a SS. Also, who knows, maybe Desmond would be back? We don't have any real high upside SS anywhere close to the majors (Gordon is still at least 3-4 years away). We are set at 3B, 2B, 1B and the OF for the next 3-4 years as well. The Twins haven't had a legit SS in a decade plus, maybe its time to change that?
  2. A couple in the 15-25 range. (Which would be top 10 guys in the Nats system)
  3. RHB vs Perkins .422 OPS LHB vs Perkins .844 OPS
  4. Yeah they could bench him, but that article specifically states that they could use his freed up money by trading him this year by going out and getting another piece the covet. Maybe a 3 way deal makes sense: Twins get Desmond Nationals get Clippard A's get a couple mid level prospects Also, I would be more than happy to give up "top 35 pick" value for Desmond, he instantly makes this Twins offense better and assuming his yips are over at SS he provides an uptick with his defense as well.
  5. Mark Hamburger is just as cool of a name. How about him for Desmond?
  6. Gotta hand it to TR and the Twins, they certainly appear to be going for it! I just hope regardless of results this doesn't close the door on Meyer being a starting pitcher again.
  7. Per MLBTRADERUMORS "In his latest notes column for FOX Sports, Ken Rosenthal begins with an interesting note on the Nationals. Despite a substantial payroll and a heavy offseason investment in Max Scherzer, Nats ownership is reluctant to add payroll during the season. Rosenthal notes that, in hindsight, we saw an indication of this last July when Cleveland paid all of the $3.3MM remaining on Asdrubal Cabrera‘s salary after the Nats acquired him. (Of course, the Nats were also willing to take on all of Matt Thornton‘s salary via waiver claim.) Because of this, Rosenthal wonders if the Nats will consider trading Ian Desmond this summer to clear room for a different acquisition. Given Desmond’s struggles, the team could be better off with Danny Espinosa, Yunel Escobar and Anthony Rendon seeing regular time in the infield." This makes me think the Twins could get him for somewhat of a good deal if they pick up his dollars (The Twins have plenty of payroll flexibility)
  8. 25 HR, .450-.480 SLG is not "occasional" power. Also I think the Twins could use more power, this is a team that has had Suzuki batting 5th in a double digit number of games.
  9. From 2012 to today, Desmond has the 2nd highest WAR amongst SS. 4th highest OPS, 1st most HR's. Hardly mediocre.
  10. His UZR is positive over the prior three years, that places him as above average for a SS which is pretty good and certainly much better than what the Twins currently have defensively.
  11. Desmond isn't 30 years old. His prior numbers as a SS put him in the top 5 each of the last 3 years. Top 5 production is mediocre? ok... Who is this option the Twins can call up who has plenty of upside? Santana, Polanco, Escobar are look like Util guys at this point.
  12. The Nationals are in win now mode though and they have what they feel are better options internally up the middle like Rendon, Espinosa etc
  13. Looking like it will be Towns.
  14. Since 2012 Nunez ranks dead last defensively in SS for all players with a minimum of 100 innings played at the SS position. 118 out of 118. Playing Nunez at short stop is literally playing with a ticking time bomb that will go over sooner rather than later.
  15. Only 12 players got them last year, I'm not so sure Desmond would get one or 2/30 anyways if he keeps "this" up.
  16. Ah that makes sense. Flash isn't the issue anyways, its just the stupid ass auto play ads, and even those are tolerable, just the ones that ruin the mobile experience, slow up the site, etc are what are over the top.
  17. I get you don't want people posting about ad blockers and stuff, but disabling flash only ends up blocking a small percentage of the ads, no? Seems like a decent compromise?
  18. A QO this year is like 16 million, yeah he can prob get a multi year deal on the open market, but if if like you said he continues to "stink" it won't be anywhere near a AAV of 16 million, probably not even 12 million. Which means there is a pretty solid chance he would accept said offer. NTM they could use that saved money from him this year to add additional help where they need it (bullpen)
  19. Even during this recent "slide" the Twins haven't lost too much ground, they now sit 3.5 behind KC which can be made up in less than a week. More importantly they are in the 1st wild card spot as well.
  20. Yeah, Nunez is actually pretty terrible at every defensive position. I don't mind keeping him around as a bench guy as long as he continues to hit, but he shouldn't be the everyday SS and shouldn't be counted on to be an every day player moving forward.
  21. I dunno, he may just need a change of scenery, the 3 years prior he was above average defensively as a SS.
  22. In all seriousness: It doesn't take clicks to make Twinsdaily money, they are given money on a CPM basis, which means every impression served (everytime someone visits the site, reloads a page etc) it earns them money. Disabling flash prevents them from making the money. It's not Brock or TD's fault, its the fault of the crappy ad networks who are serving the ads (Which is why you see the issue with FanGraphs.com as well), however they can choose which networks to work with and which ones not to work with.
  23. Desmond has fallen out of favor in Washington and they seem to have some better internal options for the rest of this year. He has had a pretty rough season this year at the plate and defensively, but the 3 years prior he averaged 23 HR a year and pretty solid production overall. He makes 11 milion this year, so the Twins would likely be on the hook for 4-5.5 million of it which is affordable. Odds are it won't cost much to acquire him and I for one don't think Escobar, Santana, or Nunez are every day fits at this point, and the Twins DO need another solid bat. What say you Twinsdaily?
