  1. FWIW: Ryan has already said multiple times that they are going to play Sano in the OF. As far as "trading for a corner OF" or "signing one via FA" I will believe it when I see it, until then I will assume Ryan isn't lying to everyone by saying Sano will be in the OF. Ryan also said today that he brought up Buxton too soon, seems to me that the odds are that Buxton won't be starting the season in the majors. (Nor should he be to be honest) As far as your comparing when players were acquired etc, I don't think it's relevant. The original guy said the Twins should follow the Royals model of having an "Okay" hitting lineup and a great bullpen. I pointed out that the Royals have great hitters and a great bullpen. Something the Twins currently lack in both regards. If you want to follow that model, fine. But set yourself up to have great hitters and a great bullpen. Keeping Fien around and bringing in Murphy doesn't look like they are accomplishing that (even more so if they don't trade Plouffe)
  2. So Trump wants to "ban all Muslims" from even ENTERING the US now. Holy ****, I honestly can't respect anyone that supports him at all anymore.
  3. Why is that the case? If they trade Milone and Plouffe (which they should do regardless) that frees up $10+ million in 2016 and even more in 2017, plenty of money to sign a Clippard, trade for a Storen or go with Rodney as a plan be.
  4. What is worse? Getting in a fight with a teammate (who has gotten in other fights) or Throwing a bat at an umpire (who did nothing aggressive/offensive other than calling a borderline strike) Keep in mind, the Twins decided to trade their best homegrown pitching prospect in 20 years for one of the two.... It sort of bugs me when the whole "well the Twins do things the RIGHT way, and bring in the RIGHT players" card gets brought out. The Twins are just like every other team in the league, we have had our share of scum bags over the years.
  5. The thing is, he could still become a Yankee with a 6 year opt out clause, I just have a feeling the Nats offer him that 400 million (or very close to one) that he really can't turn down (NTM the pressure from the union to set the bar at 400 million sooner rather than later as well) The Nats might as well move out of Washington for a third time if they can't lock up Harper long term.
  6. You bring up a good point, the person who looked the worst in that whole situation wasn't Papelbon or Harper, it was Williams, who had clearly lost the clubhouse/team 100% Papelbon is certainly a douche, but at least he clearly wants to "win", just like AJ, give me a guy like that then some guy who is clearly just in it for the money (A-Rod comes to mind) any day.
  7. Honest question: Did you root for Hunter this year? Because he went out of his way to intentionally injure other players multiple times: 1. Throwing a punch at Morneau and hitting Punto. Punch > Quick Choke damage wise. 2. Throwing a ball back at a pitcher after getting hit.
  8. I think Milone should be traded for anything, anywhere regardless. Shields Santana Duffey Gibson Hughes Berrios/May waiting in the wings. That is a damn nice rotation if Shields can revert to his 2013/2014 mode (Where he was pitching in the same division) If Hughes looks shaky/injured to begin the season. DL him or start him in the pen, that opens up May's shot. If June rolls around and Berrios is pushing for a spot? Figure out a way to trade Gibson. Make no mistake, Shields instantly becomes the best pitcher the Twins have if they trade for him.
  9. In 2016? 95% chance on all three. In 2017-2018? 60% chance on Berrios, 75% on Duffey and May (and I like BOTH very much) Nothing stops the Twins from trading any of Gibson, Milone, Santana etc at anypoint as well.
  10. James Shields: 2011-2014 3.17 ERA 233IP per year! 3.49 FIP, 8.0 K 2.3 BB 1.1155 WHIP Jame Shields 2015: 3.91 ERA 201 IP NTM the Shields in 2011-2014 was in the AL and in 2014 posted great numbers across the board. Anyone who says Nolasco is better then Shields in 2016 is being very very very optimistic with no backing. Shields for Nolasco straight up? Uh, yes, 100%, all day, every day. The Padres would have to be high to consider such a deal, and Terry Ryan would have to be high to turn down such a deal!
  11. 12 years 375 if he signs it before this off-season, next off season it prob is 12 years (400 million) He makes a little less if he signs now because it buys out his arb years earlier etc. Anyways, I don't see Washington letting him go, and if anyone is going to "earn" a 12 year contract, it is him, since he would still be like 34 when it ended, no?
  12. Couple things: While the Twins seemed poised to be fine with the "decent SP's" bit, they don't seem poised to go after great RP (and seem to look for decent RP) Additionally, the Royals did bring in James Shields (who pitched in the playoffs and world series in 2014) and Cueto in 2015, so even they sorta of "knew" or wanted an ace. I wouldn't call the Royals hitting just "OK" Hosmer 122 OPS+ Mouse 120 OPS+ Gordon 120 OPS+ Cain 126 OPS+ (MVP type play overall, defense speed etc) Morales 128 OPS+ Zobrist 121 OPS+ Plus the ones hitting below average had their strengths as well: Perez- Great D, 21 HR Escobar- Great D, 17 SB Dyson- 26 SB Butera- PIRANHA! For comparison's sake the Twins had one guy over 120 OPS last year (Sano) and the next highest were at 102 and 101 (Dozier and Escobar) though they had a lot of guys right below 100 in the 96-99 range (Mauer, Plouffe, Rosario, Hicks) All that is to say the Royals had a GREAT hitting team, an "ok hitting team" is what the 2015 Twins were. They also don't see to value speed/defense like the Royals did either, as they just shipped off Hicks (most SB on the team, great D) and seem to be content at the moment to roll with an OF featuring both Sano and Arcia.
  13. When I saw it I think he was offering a random TD member $100,000 to let their wife spend one night with him.
  14. The idea of Duffey in the bullpen makes me a sad Panda
  15. On that note: I could definitely see a 12 year, 375 million contract offer to him, with an opt out after 6 years (giving him a shot for another 10+ year deal)
  16. I wouldn't be so sure about Harper leaving, I wouldn't be shocked if they ink him to an 11 or 12 year contract before the season starts. Money (especially record breaking money) heals a lot of sore feelings.
  17. Yeah the workplace comparison doesn't make much sense, a more appropriate comparison would be a couple of brothers or buddies getting a small scrap. It happens, people move on etc. Papelbon is getting a lot more **** because of the fact he is a douche too boot (so in some ways he has brought it upon his self) but then again, as mentioned, Torii Hunter actually threw a hard punch and hit Punto. That is worse IMO)
  18. Exactly, in fact this isn't going to "lose" him any points with ANY of the players including Harper (whose attitude may find himself getting suspended some day) CBA deal is coming up in a year or two, players are already getting a much smaller "piece" of the pie then they were, we will see a lot of these type of grievances in the next 12 months is my guess. And at the end of the day, the $100k he lost out on is a lot of money for anybody, no reason not to file the grievance.
  19. Agreed 100% Milone is a perfectly acceptable back end of the rotation pitcher, unfortunately the Twins already have those (and a lot more guys with upside) in spades. Texas would certainly be a good fit for him, possibly the Mariners as well. In a perfect world I would try to figure out how to trade Milone and Suzuki for Mike Zunino.
  20. Tigers fans react to the Pelfrey two year contract.
  21. Which is still loads better than anything the Twins have.
  22. Good catch, that would certainly make a lot of sense to the whole dynamic and why he was finally fed up with Dodd. Him being a war hero is also a really nice touch, between that and his "confession" to Peggy you actually feel for the guy a bit, almost like he isn't some cold blooded killer at heart, but keeps getting pushed into being one.
  23. God I hope there is some Brett Favre to the Vikings talk
  24. Sign Rodney, trade Fien. Problem solved. I like the upside with Rodney, he was very good and effective in 2012, 2013, 2014 and once he got traded to the Cubs in 2015. I have to think that his first half of 2015 is the outlier. I know he "wants" to close, but I don't see any teams giving him the closer spot off the bat, however with the Twins and Perkins injury issues, he would have as good of a shot to close here as any if he is effective off the bat. I bet they could get him on a one year deal, maybe a one+ option with some sort of kicker for games finished or what not. Either way, 5-6 million is nothing and worth the shot of his upside.8.8 career k/9, we don't exactly have a lot of those types currently... I'd still go after Clippard or Storen. How about this as a bullpen: CL- Perkins SU (8th inning guy) - Storen or Clippard SU (7th inning guy) Jepsen SU- Rodney MRP- Reserved for whichever rookie/young guy looks best LOOGY- O Rourke (or sign someone else) MRP- TBD (or Fien if you keep him around) May to the rotation. Milone traded
  25. The Mariners were never a real threat to the Twins to begin with IMO You need 6-7 guys in a pen, as of now the Twins have 3 good arms (May-Who should be a starter anyways, Jepsen, and Perkins) even if some of the rookies step up there is still plenty of room for another shut down guy.
