  1. I'm not sure why this is a surprise or has ever been a surprise, league average players who are in arb years don't fetch big returns in the trade market. Plouffe isn't going to fetch some huge return, heck, Hicks, a cheap player with gold glove defense at a premium position and a TON of upside only got us a back up catcher. I'd be happy with any sort of "lottery ticket" prospect for Plouffe or any RP that is better then Fien (a low bar, I know) If Ryan was so adamant about not trading a league average player like Plouffe, that's fine, but he never should have went out and clogged up the DH spot even more. Make no mistake about it, moving the 285 pound Sano to OF is a disaster waiting to happen. If Plouffe isn't traded, Park is at DH, Mauer at first and Sano starts the season in RF? That is an a F for roster management.
  2. Closers absolutely had the same value back then.
  3. TR refuses to ever go into "full rebuild mode" and refuses to ever "go all in" this is why we had 4 straight 90 loss seasons (but no 100 loss seasons) but also why we haven't won a single playoff game in a decade or so. Good on Houston, good on Philly. Also, good on Arizona and good on Atlanta. It sure must be nice to follow a team that actually has a clear plan of a lot of success either now or a couple years down the road.
  4. Since the winter meetings have started the twins have signed or traded for exactly zero players. If that isn't inactive I don't know what is. The only things "rumored" or said were they were interested in C level free agents like Sipp, Rodney (who I would like to bring in actually) and the very aggressive "we are open to trading Ricky Nolasco" bit, followed by "well, we don't want to sell low on nolasco" If it looks like an inactive, smells like an inactive and quacks like an inactive, it's inactive. If you want to argue this is the correct path or strategy currently? Fine, that's a perfectly reasonable stance. But to say the twins HAVENT been inactive overall this winter meetings? That's just false.
  5. As sean Connery said in the rock: Losers always try their best to sign someone. Winners go home and sign the prom queen (or Cy Young) I think that was the quote, right?
  6. "Minnesota nice" personified Yeah, we shouldn't be applauding TR and co for not bringing back replacement level players, especially ones that don't have options and would cost more than the minimum, that should be "business as usual"
  7. Lack of Lefty relievers dont worry me. A lack of GOOD relievers who can strike out people once in a while worries me. The only two people I feel good about in the pen right now in any semi high leverage situation is Perkins and Jepsen, and Perkins is coming off of some arm injuries. May is fine too but again, he should be a starter. They desperately need another guy they can count on in the 7th, 8th in a close game. Perkins and Jepsen can't pitch every day.
  8. upswing yes, but they were very lucky to get 83 wins to begin with, in reality they were closer to a 75 win team once luck is taken out. Which means you need to find 15 wins to make a sure thing playoff team IMO
  9. I like parks potential, but anothe DH type is the last thing the twins really needed. Murphy for hicks created one more hole, and that's assuming Murphy is anything more than a part time catcher with Suzuki around.
  10. I'm not sure that is a smokescreen...
  11. Ah yeah, I didn't realize it was that far off, good point. Good alternatives too.
  12. 7. Just cut his worthless butt now and save a roster and 40 man spot for someone who can contribute and earn a contract.
  13. Coming into the Winter meetings, the Twins needed a few things, but one thing was an absolute must: Upgrade to the bullpen. Now that a few days have gone by, there is no less than about 15 of the top (and even the next tier) of RP that are now off the market. At what point do we just sort of all accept the fact that Ryan isn't the man to run a franchise in 2015? Is there any doubt they will simply now sign a C+ type free agent RP and call it a day? Hoping that Fien, Jepsen and Perkins can all stay healthy and effective for the 7th/8th/9th innings? Color me unimpressed, but sadly not surprised. Same song, different year.

  19. NFL games suck to attend anyways, even for adults. I wouldn't dream of taking a kid unless I was in "premium" seating that guarantees you are around actual human beings. 300 level or above in the "cheap seats" pass.
  20. The filters are down! Time to go wild! **** Piss **** ********** Tits **** Mother****er Nishioka
  21. Kemp takes a lot of heat for his contract, but other than an injured filled 2013 he has been pretty damn effective. If we could dump Nolasco in a deal would gladly take Kemp back (San Diego might need to toss in 10 -12 mil) as he is a sure thing to hit 25-30 HR, put up a .760-.775 OPS and steal 10 bags. At that point you have Kemp for 4 years and 40 mil effectively (after the 10 million and dumping Nolascos contract) Basically Torii Hunter contract but actually able to hit
  22. When was this "used to" in terms of free agency?
  23. So they are holding out for a pack of 1988 Fleer baseball cards and a NEW piece of gum instead of a pack of 1988 Fleer baseball cards with the original gum? Can't fool old Terry!
