  1. This is why I didn't want them to tender Milone a contract this year. Not because he doesn't have value (he does) but because the Twins would owe him significant money (in their eyes) he would be blocking guys like May, and possibly Berrios. TR should have had a trade lined up for Milone prior to the winter meetings, now we are stuck with him in the rotation for quite some time even if he fails (look how long we kept the leash for Pelfrey etc because he was drawing a decent salary)
  2. His 2nd time through weren't that much worse IMO, it was the 3rd time that stood out. Seems like that can be improved by mixing up his pitches a bit more, and just getting more expirence etc under his belt. I guess I don't see the harm in giving him 2016 to have a real shot at the rotation, if he succeeds, awesome! If he fails after 15-20 starts, then by all means put him in the pen where you know he will be fine. Such a waste to never give him a real shot at starting, especially when Milone and Nolasco are taking those starts instead of him.
  3. Pretty sure most SP in all of baseball have increase in OPS against in the 2nd and 3rd time though the lineups. I think most acknowledge that May can improve in some areas as a SP as well(pitching longer in games, keeping pitches down etc)
  4. Good point about the central, which was weak last year, but should be better this year. The Twins went 25-13 against the Indians and White Sox. Can't count on that again IMO
  5. Not a bad point, I forgot that Swazak wasn't half bad in the rotation. But he just seemed to me to never be more than a #5 anyways (could be wrong) where as I see May as a potential 2/3 type
  6. Swarzak had ample shots to start though and was a failed starter, he is the perfect example of a guy who you ultimately stick in the pen. May has had success as a starter and has a high ceiling, pulling the plug on him way too early.
  7. I wish I had enough room to get back into it for sure, stupid NYC! It is really fun to finally after weeks of waiting crack open some brews you made, even if they aren't great it's still fun. Also +1 on the sanitation tip. I took a whiskey making class recently, I think I'm gonna give that a shot sometime soon.
  8. I'm concerned about K's in the pen as wel, however you can snag those off the FA market for pretty cheap deals 2-3 years 5-7 mil a year. Not so easy when it comes to starters, there is a reason why a guy like Samardzija just got 90 million and no RP ever has come close to that even that type of contract. Basically If you have a guy who can strike people out as a starter, it is just foolish to move him to the pen, where you can "buy" or "trade" for strikeouts much much easier.
  9. Santana looked pretty good last year especially towards the end. I'm not worried about him, he should slot in as a #3 at least. Hughes, if healthy will be "fine" as a starter as well. Nolasco is a massive sunk cost. He should just be cut at this point, he is clogging up a roster spot. If you don't want to cut him, slot him in as the mop up man to start the year.
  10. Yeah I wouldn't exactly applaud him for the Meyer deal just yet, I liked it at the time, but as of today it's looking like a pretty clear victory for the Nationals. The Revere deal was fine/good either way, because Revere was a mediocre player who never was long for being a starter for this club anyways, anything they got from May or Worley (R.I.P) was going to be a bonus anyways. (I view Plouffe and Milone as similar guys right now, both are more talented then Revere, so both could likely bring back a slightly better package, but both should be traded)
  11. Exactly, in fact, he has looked quite decent thus far and the ceiling is even higher, what makes it more frustrating is he is the one guy in the rotation who is actually capable of striking guys out. (I guess Santana is too)
  12. The Twins were bottom 5 in the majors last year for offensive WAR They were bottom 7 in the majors last year for wRC+ They were 3rd worst in OBP They were bottom 10 in Slugging I would say that they MUST be better than last year if they hope to have any shot at 80+ wins, much less the playoffs or titles. Assuming nobody gets hurt, we need Buxton, Park, Rosario and Murphy all to step up big time, while nobody else regresses to have a legit shot IMO. I'm just not seeing a team that can win more then 80 games this year as its currently constructed. Now, if you trade Milone and Plouffe and open up spots for Sano at 3rd, May at SP and find one more RP? Then we might be talking.
  13. The Twins are really good at finding depth for the 4th/5th/6th/7th OF spots and the 5th and 6th guy out of the pen in the organization, I just wish they would be more concentrated on finding actual impact arms and bats once in a while.
  14. Well this is one way to have people not take any more of your takes seriously.
  15. Ryan just doesn't get it. He continues to play mediocre veterans and guarantee them spots rather then give them to young and better players, this has seemingly been the Twins MO for ages and one of many reasons why they haven't had much success overall since 91.
  16. I did Mr Beer before, it's ok, nothing earth shattering. I have a lot of friends and family who home brew, what I have found is you get what you put into it, patience is important as is experimentation. Start with Mr beer, see if you like it, if you do, then get a full set up. I have a full set up collecting dust at the girlfriends folks place, need to give it another shot! Have fun!
  17. Agreed, it was a 73-75 win team last year that ended up winning 83 games, perhaps the best thing (other than a playoff berth) for the long term would be for the Twins to win less than 80 games this year. This would hopefully be a "kick" to management that shows them they need to alter their plans. The worst thing that can happen this year is the Twins win 86 games and miss the playoffs (while once again getting lucky)
  18. I had an invite to the 3pm showing for Disney employees today, unfortunately I have a flight this evening so wasn't able to attend. Rats, I was really looking to spoil it for everyone.
  19. My letter is much simpler but gets to the same point: Dear Terry Ryan, Please step down from GM (again) Thanks,
  20. I'm not sure how this is shooting for the moon, they didn't give up much to great Fraizer who is one of the best at his position, Abreu, Sale are in their prime (Sale had a very unlucky year last year) and you have Eaton as well, him Abreu and Frazier give you a real nice lineup. Sale and Rondon give you a nice 1-2. If they can sign another bat (corner OF) the White Sox suddenly look like a team that can compete.
  21. Wouldn't they be facing RHP 5-6 times a week on average?
  22. First off: Mauer isn't going to waive his no trade clause, especially to goto one of the worst cities in the history of man kind. Second off: Why on earth would the Reds do that deal? Votto is easily "earning" his money currently and Chapman still will get some good prospects in return whenever he was traded. Neither is a salary dump, and if Votto was on the market there would be at least 5-10 teams who would offer a real nice package for him.
  23. Excellent move by the White Sox, just because a few moves didn't work last year they aren't afraid to try again, gotta love it if you are a fan of that club. They didn't give up much IMO to get him, and the payoff could be huge.
  24. Sorry I meant late 70's (which is what I said in the OP)
  25. I think she will be fine when it comes to these decisions to be honest. Hopefully will follow Obamas lead.
