  1. The Twins were in the exact same situation in the early 2000's as the Royals are now, and they didn't make any aggressive moves. Also comparing the Grienke trade to the AJ trade is laughable, one was an ace, another was a league average Catcher.
  2. Doubtful, he hasn't done anything yet, and didn't do anything like Moore's moves the first time the Twins were winning those division titles.
  3. Yeah, I basically said that in the exact same post.
  4. Great trade no doubt, the Twins got a couple guys with question marks (Nathan+Liriano) but both had great "stuff" and big "upside" and it paid off in spades for them! What is odd to me is, you think after this success the Twins would continue to target these types of players in the FA market and trade market, but TR has mostly done the opposite in his trades and acquisitions. The only time the Twins seemed to take this approach again was during Bill Smith's short lived era, which ended up bringing us Miguel Sano, and a Santana trade that wouldn't look as bad if we would have had just a little bit of patience with Carlos Gomez who is now a premiere CF. The Delmon Young trade was another case of going after a high upside guy with some "warts", it didn't work out of course, but at least they tried to be aggressive in getting a game changer.
  5. Oh give me a break, that wasn't even close to an aggressive move TR did to put them over the top. They traded AJ away to make room for Mauer, it just happened to work out to be one of the most lopsided trades ever. Also, wasn't that 12 years ago? Doesn't that say something about his body of work that people have to keep going back to 12 years ago for the last significant move he made that worked? (Oh well remember the AJ trade?) What have you done for me these last 10 years TR? But anyways, since you bring it up, that trade almost cancels out TR letting hall of famer David Ortiz walk for nothing. So, now we are back at square one again.
  6. Santana and Hughes aren't the issue IMO, Santana is a solid starter for us moving forward and I really like Hughes to bounce back this year. Nolasco and Milone are the ones who shouldn't be blocking guys like May, Duffey, Berrios etc
  7. Not sure why you are comparing Dayton Moore and the Royals to TR and the Twins, the "trust the process" stuff is irrelevalnt since Moore has proven time and time again he will pull the trigger on a game changing trade to help out the team, TR? Nope.
  8. Yup: DH-Nope C- Nope 1B- Nope 2B- Yes (Dozier) SS- Yes (Escobar) 3B- Nope (Plouffe) RF- Yes (Sano) CF- No LF- No Rosario (not above average yet) SP- Not even close RP- Not even close
  9. As someone who goes to about 20 Yankee games a year I must point out this is a poor example. I have sat in the 100 level numerous times T Yankee stadium for less than $40. I sat in the 300 level behind home plate for a game this summer for $3 a ticket ($4 each with service fee) I went to the wild card game and it was $60 a ticket for 200 level. Rarely do any stadiums actually "sell out" these days, so ticket prices are basically a supply and demand situation. (I can't remember the last time I bought via the box office since stub hub etc usually has them cheaper 95% of the time) mostly it all comes down to how good a ram is doing and how much excitement they generate. As far as the super premium seats go direct from the team, yes, Yankee tickets cost a lot more than the twins
  10. We actually had one in sano if they were so keen on keeping Plouffe (which it appears they are)
  11. I liked it. My only complaint is that everything was very predictable, but it was very well done/exciting. I'm definitely buying one of those bb8 remote control (iPhone) droids
  12. The point was with the money they were able to spend on Pelfrey, Stauffer and Hunter last year, they could use somewhat close to that same amount and sign Cueto this year.
  13. The bbref career comps are pointless in Hicks case, Hicks was rushed to the majors by the Twins and basically floundered until they finally sent him back down. His first 500 so at bats in the majors are close to irrelevant at this point as he never should have been up to begin with. Mike Cameron is also on his comp list as well...so those lists are pretty pointless.
  14. Hicks has his warts, but so does Rosario, I am a HUGE Hicks fan but I think Rosario has the better career offensive wise, but to state that Rosario is going to have a much longer and much more successful career is just a guess at best. However to say Hicks may be lucky to have a job in 4-5 years is ridiculous, the guy is a stud in CF and can run the bases. If Revere can last 6+ seasons Hicks will easily be able to as well.
  15. Signing mid rotation guys like Nolasco, Hughes and Santana are hardly aggressive. The fact that it appears to be "aggressive" moves shows all you need to know about how things have gone for the past couple decades. The two real aggressive moves the Twins have made overal was signing Mauer to the long term deal, and getting the high bid on an elite prospect like Sano. One has paid off big time and the other..well, has been not the best contract but Mauer still might have a couple good years left in him. I was hoping after the success that Sano has shown early on (and in the Twins system prior) they would realize that "hey, maybe paying top dollar for elite talent might be worth it" sadly, they haven't done so again since then. It should be noted that for what they paid Hunter and Pelfrey last season, they only would need to toss in another 5 million or so to have signed Cueto (AAV)
  16. Most pitchers will perform better as a reliever...this isn't a good argument on why he should be taken out of the rotation.
  17. Basically it's a 2 year 42 million dollar deal if he pitches like he has. Not a bad deal at all even if he does likely opt out. I would have gladly given him the same contract.
  18. He's like the Anti Torii Hunter (good thing) In all seriousness Doolittle seems like an awesome guy, I hope he has a nice long career.
  19. I imagine that would goto Jepsen before May.
  20. Figured that was the case, and it's just one more reason why we should just "bank" on 83 wins with this lineup returning.
  21. I think you mean 2015, the twins had the 3rd highest BARISP in baseball In 2014 they were 16th (29 points lower)
  22. IMO Rosario won't regress, he didn't even put up that good of numbers last year anyways (sub 100 OPS+) I would be worried if he stays the same personally and am looking for some solid progression from him. As far as regression candidates: Escobar Dozier (that second half worries me) Duffey Milone Gibson Perkins (injury) Murphy Sano (could be a growing year, where he doesn't have a .900 ops, but Something closer to .880 or so)
  23. Or signed one of the many RP that were available and would have cost less than what we paid Pelf the last 3 years (though plenty RP would only cost two years)
  24. Agreed, it could be a major issue compounded by the fact that the twins will have a long leash on him since he is due a decent chunk of change, look how long they nishioka flounder at the major league level before FINALLY sending him down (and no, I am not comparing their skill sets, or anything like that. But they are the two foreign players the twins signed to major league contracts, so that is where the comparison comes from) Arcia struggles for a couple weeks? Down (or out) you go! Park? "Let him work through it"
  25. prob a minimum number of posts needed (to keep spammers away) Try to post a couple more posts in this thread and then try?
