  1. It's funny you mention that Lev. The show thus far has followed the British version (Criminal justice) rather closely (with a few minor tweaks), that season was 5 episodes long, where this one is 7 or 8 I believe, so things will drag a bit more. But the British version was just so freaking good! I'm impressed so far, the casting has been on point, Michael K Williams as the "God" in the prison is going to be a power house performance. Also I never want to goto Rikers.
  2. Yeah, at the very least bringing Berrios up gives the casual (and more) fan a reason to watch/care about the game. I can't remember the last time I watched a single inning of a Nolasco game.
  3. Kintzler is far from a "proven" closer, so his trade value at this point is minimal. Hold onto him, hope he keeps this up for the rest of this year and next year and then trade him if you don't contend next year. id rather keep him for 2017 then have them Overspend on the FA market for a "proven" closer. Maybe the next GM will be different, but the Twins have always put the closer role on a pretty high pedestal.
  4. That is a lot of info, thanks for sharing. So in that case, it sounds like a move that just frankly didn't work out/nobody could have predicted, since injuries etc are tough to predict. As far as diving deeper into the Sabr stats: are you guys focusing more on hitting and pitching than fielding? Or are the head guys just more willing to listen to your teams thoughts on hitting and pitching? Because honestly, the last two "RF" solutions point to anything but a deep dive. Hunter had been declining in the OF for years and Sano....well.... We know how that turned out. I'm not trying to bash the process or start an argument or anything, because it is nice to have someone in the org who is answering questions, being frank etc. I'm just mostly curious on what aspects of advanced statistics the decision makers are more "open" to. From the 30,000 foot fans view it looks like the fielding aspect is lagging a bit behind.
  5. Yeah true, while many weren't jumping for joy over the signing, nobody was predicting or could have predicted that he would be this bad. I think everyone sort of assumed that worst case he would be a #4 type. However the Pelfrey signings, and Hughes/Suzuki extensions (the timing of) are what cause me more angst then the Nolasco one (even though Nolasco has provided zero value, and Suzuki has rebounded a bit)
  6. Or they believe in getting one of the most dominating pitchers this game has seen in a very long time...
  7. If a contending team doesn't have someone better in AAA then Ricky Nolasco then that team deserves to miss the playoffs It still creates an issue though, if both Milone and Nolasco are on the roster August 2nd then someone else loses a spot, if that's the case anything other than May going to AAA to stretch out and one of Milone or Nolasco to the pen would be simply unacceptable. Nolasco has been nothing short of a disaster for the last 3 seasons, honestly there is no reason to keep him on the roster at this stage. Eat the money and let him try to sign somewhere else, him taking up valuable innings is hurting this team short and long term.
  8. Yeah there are simply better and cheaper options than Milone and Nolasco. It would be different if they had respectable results or eras this year, but both are....well... Pretty bad this year, add in the contracts and I think teams realize they have a lot of superior options. Even if the Twins picked up 99% of the contracts I doubt they get anything back in return.
  9. I think the term "first two FULL seasons" proves his point. The thing that drives me a bit nuts is they will call up a young position player (OF) and let them struggle for 6+ weeks or so before sending them down, however the patience with pitchers is usually significantly less and it takes them more time to get shot number two. The inconsistencies are just.....odd.
  10. Fair enough, maybe I was misremembering how the first one went then. One question I do have is: What is morale right now with you/your team/the rest of the front office? Obviously losing your boss (whether it was the right decision or not) is a tough thing to go through, Ryan seemed like a good guy and very loyal to his employees. Do you get the general perception that things will be ok for your team/the other folks on the same level?
  11. You should do another Q&A here, the first one seemed to go well and I know nearly everyone appreciated the insight/behind the curtain info.
  12. Plenty of good breweries in NYC as well I'd recommend Brooklyn Brewery, its open Fri-Sun and they give a ton of free (or $5? tours as well) Also if its on Saturday you can get a ton of good food from about 100 local vendors at Smorgasburg, which is a few blocks from Brooklyn Brewery.
  13. I'd recommend you stop interacting with idiots and cut them out of your life I think EVERYONE would be hurt by a Trump Presidency personally, the worst case is we get in some awful war and he launches a nuke, but the much more likely scenario is at the very least civil liberties get set back and the economy does a bit of a nose dive. (Plenty of people are nervous to invest already due to Trump's chances)
  14. In terms of Keith Law/national perception I think a lot of that has to do with the results (in this case lack of results) that have happened with the Twins over the past few off-seasons: Signing Nolasco, Signing Hunter, Signing and resigning Pelfrey, Extending Suzuki after 1 half, Extending Hughes after 1 good (albeit it great season), bullpen additions, etc don't exactly scream of the analytic department having a big say (or any real say) in a lot of those decisions. It just seems like more of the same decisions that had been going on for several years prior: Nick Blackburn extension comes to mind.
  15. The problem is, I don't think it really even has to do with Berrios, it has to do with the fact the Twins are hellbent in trying to build up Milone/Nolasco somehow to deal one of them. In reality, baring anything less than a miracle those guys were going to continue being what they are (6th starter types on a bad to mediocre team, 7/8th starters on a playoff caliber team) This insistence in running out Nolasco every 5th day at this point is beyond perplexing, he has NO business being in this rotation at this point, if you don't want to cut him and eat the money, then just stick him in the pen to see if he can somehow turn it around. Part of me wonders if this was Terry Ryans "last straw" i.e he wanted to bring up Berrios, but the Pohlads refused to let him cut Nolasco (or move such an expensive player to the pen)
  16. Even though there obviously is an analytics team, I think most could agree that the overall results of the front office (and team) as a whole have been way less than ideal, total system failure sums it up right. The question then becomes: was it the analytics team that was letting the Twins down? Or were they not getting enough influence to some of the more old school leaders of the front office (TR+RA)? Combo of both? I'd guess it was the 2nd choice personally. No matter what the answer is, I think hiring a GM with no analytical background (or very minimal-who doesn't place a large emphasis on it) is a huge mistake moving forward. That guy Gleeman threw out sounds like a solid lead.
  17. The Yankees haven't had a great SS in like 10+ years
  18. Honestly, people are still sore over the loss, this DNC leak doesn't help much either. However I think most of those are just a VERY loud vocal minority, a lot of them will probably vote Hillary (out of fear of trump) but will go around and tell everyone they voted Jill Stein. I mean some of his followers are delusional now, the sub reddit group is crazy as all hell, but then I realized that is only a few hundred "posters" and don't represent the majority of his followers by far.
  19. I'd like to THINK that the Bernie supporters are smart enough to realize that Trump in the white house is asking for a disaster.
  20. Yeah, Johnson seems fine, but yeah, he doesn't come off as presidential, though compared to trump he looks like Honest Abe Lincoln.
  21. I think you underestimate how many of the Bernie camp will come to Hillarys side. The ones that won't are likely people who never have voted before (or wouldn't vote before) anyways. Bernie and Warren are doing a good job bringing people over for the greater good.
  22. Warren and Michelle absolutely crushed it tonight so far, it's amazing how different in tone (more legit) this looks than the GOP convention.
  23. Most people still don't even know who Johnson is, if he gets in the debates he most certainly will "hurt" Trump quite a bit more. You will get the more moderate republicans who will feel "well, I can't vote trump, but I don't want to vote Hillary, so Johnson is a good middle ground!" He will take some "Hillary" voters as well, especially some hold outs from the bernie or bust bros, but I would guess it would be around 70-75% Trump votes and 25-30% hillary votes.
  24. Duffey has a 5.71 ERA, I don't see how he has really "earned" anything, I think he may have a future with this club as a starter, but he shouldn't be standing in the way of Berrios. Then again, neither should Nolasco or Milone (both should be gone before Duffey is sent down) Also, if they dont want to cut anyone right now, why not do the following: Send Nolasco to the pen. Recall Berrios Send May to AAA to stretch out. Am I missing something?
  25. Here's an idea: instead of 2 minutes per half inning, decrease to 1:30 for all non playoff games, once the playoffs start then waste the extra time on commercials.
