  1. Can things really get that much worse? It's not like Gibson is some Liriano clone just waiting to be unleashed, even if he "stabilizes" we know what that looks like At some point you have to give up something of similar value for a player in a trade, I'd much rather give up Gibson at this point then any of the legitimate prospects the Twins have coming through the pipes. I mean if you can convince them to take a top mid teen's prospects for him, then do it! I just don't see it happening since the Diamondbacks clearly think they can compete soon.
  2. He is only 25, he hasn't reached his peak yet (age wise etc) Last season he posted very good numbers across the board as a 24 year old (if he duplicated those numbers this year his value would be sky high) and 3 years ago he was a top ten prospect in all of baseball.
  3. Dave Stewart is bad, but he isn't that incompetent to take that deal. Santana for Miller straight up would already be the heist of the decade.
  4. His career velocity (FB) is 93.5, this year he is 92.7, while a 0.8 MPH dip is less than ideal, it certainly is correctable. It's not a big warning sign like a 3-4 MPH dip. Last year his velocity was up to 94.1 (a career high), so it's not like this is a part of a bigger trend or anything. Perhaps a guy who has had 3 pretty good years to start a career is having a bad year in a terrible org with terrible coaches? I'm more concerned about a guy who has a history of injuries, versus the pitcher who doesn't (and has only lost 0.8 MPH in 2/3rds of a single season)
  5. I hear ya, but I dunno, I think you are letting Gibson way too far off the hook on this one. A lot of the pitch selection/strategy is coming from him FWIW, he has been around long enough when he can pick his own pitches or shake off whatever he doesn't want to throw.
  6. You just proved an excellent point, Fangraphs has him at .5, Baseball reference had him at 1.6 Maybe using (one) instance of WAR for a player (especially a pitcher) on it's on is a terrible use of the stat?
  7. Give me a freaking break, if that is what you are going to respond to, then just don't even do it. I clearly laid out that: Miller is 3 years younger, more reliable (injury wise) and has more upside. If you don't want to respond to those parts, then feel free not to, but don't devolve it to that trolling garbage.
  8. Uh what on earth are you talking about, he had a 1.6 WAR 2 years ago (2014) surrounded by two seasons in which he had a 3.4 and 3.6 WAR. Oh yeah, he was only 23 years old when he posted that "terrible" 1.6 WAR.
  9. Yes, I have acknowledged that he is having a bad year for Arizona, thank you for acting like I didn't say that, everyone knows he is having a bad year for them, that is why they are looking to trade him. You don't need to clear this up anymore! His K rate was 19.9% last year. Not bad. Gibson has a 4.67 ERA and a 4.30 FIP this year, let's stop acting like he is some real asset to this team. You say he has turned it around since his injury? He has given up 4 or more runs in 5 of the 8 games!!!! since he has come back from his injury.
  10. You could say the exact same about Kyle Gibson, except for the good number of innings of course (and 3 years older with injury issues)
  11. He has pitched exactly 13 games against the AL, I think that is a bit of a SSS, and looking deeper into the numbers he fared well against everyone but the Yankees and A's in who he faced in the AL (in Oakland he gave up 6 runs in one inning) so that skews things a bit. I think its a little silly to say Miller is on the decline as well, considering last year he posted his best ERA, FIP, k/9 etc in his career. Plus he is only 25!
  12. That's sort of why you take the chance on him now. If he was posting a 3.05 ERA like he did last year at this time, then Arizona likely wouldn't be shopping him or the cost would be much higher. It's also his third team, (and thus 3rd pitching coach) in the last 3 years, he won't turn 26 until the year is over, so there is still plenty of time to have him reach his potential. There is a reason why he was a perennial top 10 prospect for BA, and he has had pretty solid success in 3 of his first 4 years.
  13. Miller is 3 years young, has more upside, is significantly more healthy and has better results. (Trot out FIP all you want, but when you have a 644 IP sample size your ERA tells a good chunk of the story IMO. Nunez has turned back into a pumpkin anyways, he is a decent hitting but poor fielding Util guy (and it opens up a spot for Polanco) Basically you flip a 28 year old #4 (with injury history) and Nunez for Miller, a guy who at worst will be a 4 for you, is only 25, has more upside and could potentially be a #2 type.
  14. Why? Miller is 3 years young, has more upside and has better results overall in the major leagues than Gibson has. (This isn't getting into injury issues with Gibson)
  15. FIP 3.45 in 2015, 3.67 in 2013. He also is 3 years younger than Gibson and has a lot more upside than Gibson.
  16. Diamondbacks are apparently shopping Shelby Miller. Obviously this year has been a disaster for Miller, but he is still only 25 years old, and won't be a free agent until 2019 or 2020 I believe. His previous 3 seasons he averaged 187 IP and a 3.27 ERA. The upside is certainly still there, and the cost shouldn't be "huge" at this point due to Arizona's willingness to move on. Would you consider trading Gibson+Nunez for Miller? Gibson steps in and because a solid mid rotation guy for them moving forward (plus he has a couple years left of team control as well) Nunez provides some up the middle and INF depth (Nunez seems ideal for an NL team anyways) Arizona though doesn't lack bats, so maybe Nunez would have to be swapped out for someone else? Thoughts?
  17. You should take your money and put it in the statfreak 1 on 1 baseball camp, I hear they are prime for a large expansion nationwide soon!
  18. I'd bring him in, it's zero risk. If he rebounds then maybe you flip him before Sept 1st? Or sign him for a year or two on a team friendly deal. Give me Storen over the next 50 fiens and Ramierezs
  19. Sano will be fine at 3rd base. Remember this is basically his spring training at the position at this point this year.
  20. You could play each one 2/3rds of the time (and use the odd man out each day as a PH) Plenty of at bats to go around.
  21. I would hope that a 30 year old 1B/DH type making this sort of money would be "raking" in AAA... Park was a dumb signing to begin with, unless he does a 180 it will go down as (fortunately) the last of the Terry Ryan era terrible moves (that also forced Sano into RF to boot!) In this lost season you might as well recall him, hopefully he can get hot/lucky for a few weeks and you can trade him in the off season and get something in return. I have series doubts he will be ever able to hit "good" major league pitching. He looked so far behind anything good (after teams got the book on him)
  22. Also playing at significantly less of a salary!
  23. Lot of talk about his wikileaks dump, IMO not of it is very damaging and most of it is pretty boring/not surpising. I was they would dump a Trump email server.
  24. Yeah he's very likable, he doesn't have some bold and brash personality, but that is a good thing IMO.
  25. Make the first two years free at community college. That knocks out half of it right there. Also I think state schools need to lower their costs overall as well.
