    I’m not certain Buxton’s hip will let him play forever. I hope it can. I’m also not certain what position Keaschall is even an average defender in the majors. And I don’t at all believe that Larnach a) is an average defender and b) will be back in 2027. IF Buxton can play, he will play. The rest has to be figured out. But I do believe Jenkins is currently their 2nd best defensive outfielder in their system, and he will help the team whenever he does debut

    Awesome Seth. Gonsalves is very much in the twins history books from his time. That’s what baseball is in so many ways, the players and their stories. Thank you for sharing

    Baseball Savant LOVES Alan Roden. All kinds of red for expected stats. Larnach has red too but not as much as Roden does overall. It does make me believe that a larger sample for him will show decent results. I'm not all that certain the same can be said for Martin, and I also don't know that I've seen more blue on a page than I see with Brooks Lee. But that's an argument for a different day. If I had to bet, opening day next year the outfield consists of a (healthy) Byron Buxton, Luke Keaschall and Walker Jenkins, but I could see Roden holding off one of the spots. And frankly, that might be assuming Buxton's hip can get healthy again. I hope it can.

    That’s today. I think Keaschall has the work ethic and ability to truly dive into learning a defensive home this offseason

    I would imagine he will have an amazing season in the kbo and then want to come back whenever the new cba is sorted out

    I can’t see a way that Mendez overtakes Roden. And I also think Keaschall will find a defensive home. Id prefer a good DH brought in too. But maybe that’s just keeping Bell around?

    I like Goodman. He also would cost a TON right now. I think you could trade for someone like Isaac Paredes from Houston for less than it would cost to get Goodman, and his pull power would be awesome at Target Field. But getting someone to be a cleanup hitter type would truly lift this lineup up

    I will add that I like that Zebby is still getting chances. He definitely has the build and can be an innings eater up here once he truly figures out what out pitches he wants to use when. I like Rojas’s potential as much as anyone, but he hasn’t ever been able to throw all that many innings. Let him go for a bit in St. Paul and get to where he can throw 90-100 pitches and be comfortable. Frankly, the way Ryan has been going, I trust basically every other starter currently up in the majors to give them 5 innings more than I do Ryan right now today. Hopefully he gets right. They will need him

    If it means never seeing Caratini at `1B again, I'm all for it.

    Suzuki as a RF/DH would be a good middle of the order add. I would LOVE to go after Casey Mize as a free agent option, and I guess my perfect world would be a 1 year deal for Jeffers as a bridge until Lackey is ready. But I like the thought.

    There’s no one that’s starting for the Twins with more light blue on their savant page than Lee. It’s all light blue with no red. Not that that’s always the answer to everything. Just saying

    I was putting the idea together about the infield along with Tom saying they would raise payroll. A different thought/article could look at different position groups.

    Being from Minnesota, the afternoons in July were actually really nice for golf. Not the mornings, unless you like brisk. But the sun, we are so much closer to the equator, 14-16 degrees Celsius here feels warmer than that did in Minnesota

    Not Twins related necessarily, but watching this game, it does seem like the home plate umpire has actually had a pretty good game with balls and strikes.

    Agreed. 100% I mean, I look at just the royals and this series. Obviously Witt is amazing. But after that it’s not like have a whole lot of other talent on their position player side (Garcia is good too but he is out.) But they have a true identity with their defense. What in the world is our identity? Now I’m rambling and all. I get it. But I still think they should look hard at the infield in 2027 along with pitching

    Course maybe the answer that the front office and Tom takes is that player development on the position player side just isn’t up to snuff. To me, I worry that Lee is another in the line of Miranda and Julien and others who started out ok and then couldn’t hit anymore. That may be that baseball is just hard. It also is annoying watching other terms have young players come up and be ready to contribute (it feels like) more consistently.

    Do you have a player or a player type for a position that would greatly affect the quality of the infield specifically for 2027? Just curious. Thanks
