I was prepared for people implying this too but it seems like no one really is, it turns out that Twins Daily posters are pretty smart. McKay has been pretty good so far but I just don't see that high of a ceiling with him compared to Lewis. If anything I think Gore is the one to watch as it relates to the Lewis pick. However I have a feeling we will be pretty happy with Royce when it's all said and done

Article: What's Gotten Into Kyle Gibson?
twinsfanstreif replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Are you telling me Lance Lynn is not "must watch" baseball?! It's kinda like watching David Wells run a marathon, it's a total train wreck but so hard to look away- 48 replies

He does have 3, FB, Slider, Change Up. The Change and the slider are really similar, that's why you're probably thinking they're the same pitch- 79 replies

Small sample size alert! But it looks like Kepler has finally figured out lefties, he is hitting .320 with 4 extra base hits in 25 at bats vs lefties! If he can continue to hit left handers we might be looking at a perennial all star type of guy. I hope the break out continues for Max. Boy Rosario is exciting! He still frustrates me a bunch but hopefully we see more of the last 2 games and less of the last 2 weeks from Eddie. To me it seems like it boils down to patience with him, if he remains patient at the plate he can be super dangerous, if he gets impatient he is a black hole.

Article: MIN 8, CHW 4: Rosario Drives in Five
twinsfanstreif replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I was really impressed with Garver's defense and framing tonight, he's been sharp every time he gets a start. I really hope he takes hold of this job and doesn't give it up when Castro comes back, he provides a much better bat than Castro and without looking at any metrics his game calling and defensive ability looks to be pretty good- 7 replies

That call on Duke missing the bag was crap, every angle I saw had Duke clearly touching the bag, if Duke plays it casual that is a clear our every time..... -
It feels like the Kernels have been postponed for like 2 weeks, I wonder if they ever make up all these games

Article: Week in Review: We Have Lift-Off
twinsfanstreif replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I LOVE this new thread! Even as a die hard who follows every game it can be good to get an overview snapshot of what happened all week, gives a bit of perspective. I agree that Kinley has to be the first one out, they seem to really like him though so I wonder if they could swing a trade with the Marlins for him. To be honest though I don't really see the point, he's 27, if you don't trust him now when will you?- 9 replies

Rosario is one of my most frustrating players on this team, he makes some super good plays but too many times he just looks lost. I remember an at bat on Monday where the pitcher was struggling to hit the strike zone, he took one ball but then proceeded to strike out on 3 pitches not even close to the zone, he swung at a pitch in the dirt and was a good 3 feet away from it as if it was chest high. That kind of crap drives me nuts! I like Eddie some times but he's too all over the place for me

That stinks for sure, I've never been to a delayed or cancelled game myself, maybe I'm just lucky or I just wait until May-August to go to games. I also feel like fans traveling to games are not all that common, the majority of people who attended games live in the area. I would be surprised if each game has more than a couple hundred of tourist fans at them. I'm a huge baseball fan and I've never traveled to a city specifically to attend a baseball game, I will go to games if I'm in a particular area for another reason but never to just see a game (granted I don't make a lot of money so that's never been an option for me). There's really no way they are going to run things specifically for a small group of people's convenience.

How it's used is a big deal, there was an article done several years ago that found teams with retractable roofs were using it a very small amount of time (Mintue Maid in Houston was actually the least though), it's not just that though, it's the over all experience. It's just not the same as outdoors games even with all of it's imperfections like cold and rain.
-
I highly disagree. I lived in Houston for 10 years and we had the retractable roof and I will say I hated it! Sure it was nice on scorching hot days but they would literally leave it open for like 6 games a year. I remember going to opening day several years ago, it was a beautiful 70 degrees and partly cloudy, they had it open for a fly over and then closed it, I was SO mad. They like to keep to closed for crowd noise even on good days. They other thing is they build retractable roofs like giant boxes and the whole place feels like an airplane hanger, not a good way to take in baseball. And in Minnesota it's worth it to suffer a few weeks for a beautiful whole summer of outdoor baseball

Article: Twins To Sign Lance Lynn
twinsfanstreif replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Also he was supposed to be a two way player and so far he looks lost at the plate, it doesn't look good for him so far, now I'm glad we dodged that bullet -
What's the point though? Grossman is a good switch hitter off the bench with on base skills, that's valuable. You have to find someone better who is willing to sit on the bench, that is not gonna be easy to do

The latter is more likely, we just roll with Escobar like we did last year and Morrison replaces his pop in the line up, then when he returns his bat just bolsters an already good offense. Even without Sano I think we still have a top 5 offense, it was #1 last year over the second half without him or Morrison

Crushed? Seriously?! First of all the whole getting an Ace thing has been way over blown, there were basically only 2 options out there (I guess 3 if you count Arrieta, I don't though) in Archer and Darvish and even those two are a bit on the low end of the "Ace" spectrum. it sounds like the price on Archer is way too high and I kind of don't blame them for not selling the future for him, I like him but he's not worth 3-4 major prospects and potentially Kepler, that kind of deal could really come back to haunt us. Also that one could still happen before the trade deadline hoping that the price goes down. As for Darvish we made our run at him and were outbid, you could say we should've offered what the Cubs did but he may have taken the Cubs offer anyways and frankly that contract would have come back to bite us towards the end of it, he'll be 37 at the end of that deal. The Cubs can afford that kind of bad contract, we can not. Aside from those 2 guys who we made a run at there aren't many options out there. So as a smart front office we made a killer trade for Odorizzi, signed 3 very good relievers turning our bullpen from a liability into a strength, and signed a full time DH that upgrades our lineup in a big way for a steal of a contract. That's a pretty darn good off season if you ask me, not sure what more you wanted them to do
