  1. With Scranton always near the top of my mind when reading about Rochester, I thought that picture of Marv Foley was actually Todd Packer. Or that Foley was the actor who played Packer.
  2. I'm not complaining about Colon after seeing what the Yankees have run out there the last two games. The Twins failed epically with chances to take advantage. It almost seemed like Girardi knew the Twins wouldn't come through, and he was able to milk Cessa longer than he might have after that first inning. I know its more random variance than anything, but it seemed like Granite kept coming up in key spots, particularly at the end. I like the idea of him leading off, but I would guess he'll be down order today. And, not to bash Granite, but just speaking as a baseball fan, it is a bummer to me that the game has gone the way it has--when he came up with the bases loaded, what a perfectly dramatic time to send in a pinch-hitter. Actually, as I write this, I think Molly should have hit Esco their and moved him into the outfield. Oh well.
  3. Nice article. Good to have perspective. As old as it gets when people make puns out of your name, I'll bet he is looking forward to being called "Rook."
  4. At first glance, I thought Huascar was wearing some ginormous white elbow pad in that picture. Tyler Ladendorf played a game for Charlotte. Remember him?
  5. Considering the Twins had a -25 Run D against the Houston in 4 games prior to this series, I see a hugely improved team. Yeah, they still have a ways to go, but improvement is attainable. It seems like I keep hearing people (not Nick) say that Cleveland is some great team ready to run away with this, but I'm not seeing it, and Nick lays that out nicely. I'd love to see meaningful baseball for as long as it lasts, without mortgaging anything of value. The Astros, after this series, should soon be making a move for Gray, and who knows what else. More power to them. I don't want or expect the Twins to do something like that. But I don't want the Twins to throw in the towel yet, either. Sometimes, to extend your life expectancy, it is wise to get a colonoscopy.
  6. The Joe M. conversation reminded me of the time I coined the phrase "Falvine" Granted it's not a phrase, and I haven't actually monetized that yet, or copywrighted it or anything, and actually I don't even like it anymore. If it makes you feel better, Judge is hitting .239 in July, so either he's regressing towards thirtieth round pick status, or he will regress back towards MVP status after a few games with the Twins. Here's one I stole from Steven Wright: I once dated a rich girl whose dad had been the guy who invented that little diagram that tells you which way to put batteries in things.
  7. I share the concern about Duffy, but watching on gameday, it wasn't horrible. Two quick outs before he loaded them. Good to see Santana illustrate trust in his defense, and I'm glad Polanco was out there and not benched...good managing.
  8. I don't like the underlying implications of this game. Not ready for prime time. This will hopefully be a painful learning experience, but it is in the zone of proximal development at least for this team. They got the bases loaded a bunch, they got to two outs and even two strikes in tough situations. They just need to learn to get over that proverbial hump. Kudos to the bullpen (sans Hughes) for keeping things in check. This could have been another 16-5 loss, further skewing that all important run differential statorama.
  9. Pitching is such a tough deal. I hate to see all the injuries this year (and every) but it has been fun to see other guys emerge or move up the pecking order. I'm clamoring for some Curtiss and begging for Bard. And salivating over Stewart. Well, not really. Good job, though, guys.
  10. I appreciate the national view, but like just about everything in baseball, even the best are wrong 2 out of 3 times. Even just 3 months ago, nobody was predicting Judge for MVP, let alone ROY. I'm the type that would rather see the prospects get a chance, at least at this point. I think with the way they've prepped them, Garver, Curtiss, Romero, Gonsalves, Reed, and Granite are all ready to contribute soon. Will Curtiss be better than Hand? Maybe not this year, but the experience gained while pitching when it counts will be valuable, which goes for all these guys. Best case scenario is they all perform reasonably well at MLB, enhancing their trade value for this winter.
  11. I agree with above sentiments--there are some intriguing dudes in E-town and the GCL. Without checking the logs, it seems/feels like Javier is only playing about half the games. Gore starts a lot. I assume that is because Wander spent a whole day working on his fielding, and he's tired...in all seriousness, does he play any less than anybody else, or all they all pretty much on the same rotation? Was Miranda a second rounder? Shoot, I should get the Handbook. Sorry.
  12. You may be referring to his overall AAA numbers, but these are what he's done this year: http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?player_id=592254#/career/R/pitching/2017/ALL Small sample size to be sure, but that is due to injury. Upshot as it regards this thread: Pitchers are uncertain! You should NOT trade for them. Or, you SHOULD trade prospects while you have the chance. Cripes, thank god I'm not getting paid to figure this out.
  13. What we need is for Dozier to go on a real binge for the next two weeks, with no sign of slowing down as we hit the deadline. The way he hit last year in the second half. THAT Dozier, if he ever returns, could DH and provide depth for just about any team. As far as Seth's proposed non-package for Archer, I hope it is a non-starter, from the Twins perspective. We're talking about a team that bit on Deleon, here. They'd probably take Duensing for Archer straight up.
  14. I'd rather see them hold onto their big chips for now. This is the time to be trying to find that Arrieta type of guy. Unlikely--but it's worth trying. I'm suggesting they should be looking for another teams Meyer/Nolasco package. Even if this team scorched the farm to bare earth and acquired Archer AND Quintana, I'm not sure they'd look better than Cleveland on paper. Let Alone Houston. Of course, they're not playing on paper. Man, I really hope Colon provides this team with a shot in the arm. (Not literally! That was Erv's deal...)
  15. To my knowledge, none of the other top 5 picks have even played yet, while Lewis AND Rooker are already deserving promotions. Fake "News" Headline: New Twins FO Excelling at Scouting, Signing, and Player Development, While Other Org's Languish.
  16. Agreed--Outcome Uncertain. That is what makes it fun for me. I'm really intrigued to see how these guys weather the next couple of weeks. It would be nice to give them a shot in the arm with a little pitching help. Maybe Colon will provide that...
  17. I agree with the sentiment, but I think you've maybe way overestimated the positive outcomes, especially with this draft. I'm grateful Lewis has gotten off to a strong start.
  18. Let's see not just what their win-loss is after they run the Gauntlet, but how much fight they put up. If they sell off while in the hunt, that sends a terrible message that could have unforeseen long term repercussions. Remember all the Twins teams that didn't get reinforcements? That being said, I wouldn't trade young talent, and it would be theoretically smart to maximize value on a couple of vets. Tough spot.
  19. Fun to see some promotional movement. Romero and Gonsalves both have had clunkers since Jorge's cameo--disappointment, jealousy, keenly perceptive readiness judgement by the FO, or randomchance? I'll take the latter. When will Leach or Enlow pitch? I've noticed Wright and Gore haven't debuted--is this SOP for higher drafted pitchers? Barnes had three or four starts under his belt.
  20. https://goo.gl/images/qVB9RH
  21. Has Wright or McKau even played yet? At any rate, Jay's injury and shelving, which likely would've happened starting or relieving, is another reminder of the volatility of drafting pitchers high.
  22. Thanks for pointing out the Polanco play. Impressive. Most impressive. Disappointed to see Busenitz sent down, instead of...
  23. So did the Indians. But the the Twins turned right back around and swept them on the road. Or something like that. The Twins aren't on the same level as the Astros, yet, but the Astros aren't some invincible super team.
