  1. Thanks for pointing out Clay's numbers. That stuff can fall through the cracks. Same with Diaz, although he isn't as likely to fall through any cracks.
  2. I'm pretty late to this discussion. I'm failing to see what the Wilks move has to do with Berrios. Pretty unexciting; back in the day this would have been fine print Transaction stuff in the newspaper. Rucsinski for Wilks? Wake me when Burdi, et al are ready.
  3. Even though they were behind by a few runs at the time, I am pleased to see Burdi come into a high pressure situation and get the job done. Could he do that against major leaguers, in front of 50,000 people? I always wonder about the psychology of the big call-up, and how friendships play out in these situations. Wouldn't it be nice to get your first call-up at the same time as a buddy? Ride the plane together; get a hotel, etc. Hold hands on the bench. Whatever. I don't know, I keep seeing the Burdi/Curtiss/Melotakis combo package. Who knows, maybe they hate each other. Just musing.
  4. The checkout lady at the grocery story was musing about Gallagher just last night. She wonders whatever happened to him. She did see him live once; had to wear a raincoat. Mauer and Gallagher have very little in common, but I can imagine that old lady asking wistfully about whatever happened to Joe, too.
  5. Screenshotted. Thanks; this is the second time you've answered this for me. And thanks, Gun, as well. I've had limited experience embedding, and the way I tried it here wasn't translating.
  6. I still can't figure out how to embed stuff. Or search for a helpful tutorial on how to do it.
  7. All the shortstops in the organization celebrated the fact they moved up a rung yesterday. Well, I guess they didn't actually move up a rung...maybe the top rung was removed because it wasn't really good at being a ladder rung. Ok, I give up on that metaphor. I bet even Wander had a nice day in EST. For a look at both how to pronounce "Jermaine" as well as an inside look at the cultural challenges faced by players from Oceania, try this video: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/vDjJc_ZH6dk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> https://youtu.be/vDjJc_ZH6dk
  8. Great thread today. A rebellion needs all kinds; Luke's, Hans, a couple Chewies. And an Obi-Wan. Where did you dig up that old fossil? He may yet be of some use to us...
  9. I don't care who the Twins pick, as long as they don't screw it up. I don't want to have to read comments for the next twenty years about how they missed out on future hall of famer ______________. No pressure, Derek and Thad, your everlasting legacy is at stake. (did I just type that? am I back at seventh-grade Church camp resenting those cool preppy kids from the city?)
  10. I love metaphors. With this one, you'd have to say that every single hitter in baseball is a leaky house to some degree. One room? Two rooms? Is the water pouring in, or dripping like a water torture device? I think this metaphor, to make sense, would have to be quantified in some way, using stats or something. Leaking rooms as a percentage of square footage, or something.
  11. Last night made me nervous, "watching" on game day. And I don't disagree with the premise of this article. Still, it almost feels like it had been sitting in a drawer, waiting to be posted after a game in which Kinzler was shaky. The door is open for Duffy to embrace closing; when Kinzler was in trouble, I asked myself who they could call to clean up this mess, and I said Duffy, not Pressly. Man, I'd like to see Melo and the Burdman soon. Curtiss can be the drummer.
  12. When the year started, I felt like I was kind of struggling to find the "prospects" to watch in the lower minors--maybe I was missing AK. Heck, at times it seemed hard to find a hitting prospect at any level. After a month, it is fun to see things developing. Not all of these guys are hot prospects, but Palacios is a guy I'd never heard of two years ago until I started seeing his name in the Minor League Reports. Whitefield is another one--I've seen his name but hadn't really thought much about him. Now, though...I love the softball scouting story. Maybe he turns into the Aussie Max Kepler. Or even Byron Buxton, why not.
  13. Listening on the radio, it seems at least a couple of his homers have been the kind where, despite the exit velocity, it is hard for Provus to tell if it will go out--but it just keeps carrying. Maybe I've got that wrong, but the point is, if there is one, is that Sano can use his mind to help propel the ball further if it needs a little more distance. Or maybe, his muscles are especially strong.
  14. I love this series. Reading about the top monthly performances is a mixture of feeling good about seeing expected results (or better) from prospects and learning about some of the younger guys. Perusing box scores or the daily reports isn't enough; it takes seeing the aggregate.
  15. I enjoy seeing improvement, from players, coaches, and management. This is an excellent example of a team effort to continue to grow, using mistakes and self-awareness as guideposts for improvement. That is how you build a winner, imo. You don't just push all the right buttons and then watch things magically unfold exactly as you have foreseen from the get-go (or, as in the case of some posters, hindsight.) Adapt, improvise, and overcome.
  16. I agree heartily with the emotion take. Buxton is an enormous pile of TNT and he knows it and he is intentionally, subconsciously, licking his fingers and squeezing the fuse. One of these days, he's going to cut the baseball into little pieces. But not this day, probably.
  17. Nice perspective, I guess, in that these are two guys who have talent and seem to be have more trouble with the mental side of the game. Thinking to much, and hurting the team. Confidence is hard to quantify. The more I've seen of Buxton, the more I don't think anybody has ruined or rushed him. I'd say Molitor recognized Buxton's unique psychology, and hitting him 3rd had as good a chance to help as any where else would have. He honestly needs to hit rock bottom at the plate. Which, my God, he seems to have done. But that is the conundrum of rock bottoms. I expect him to come up at some point, fall behind 0-2, and finally get angry. Maybe break a bat in between swings. And then he'll nail one and it will be game on. Or maybe Levine can make a deal with the Rangers--we'll let you blow us out, if you'll send up a pitcher and have him throw batting practice to Buxton. As for Gibson...I feel betrayed.
  18. Love it. Almost sounds made up--too classic. The javelin coach-turned pitching coach. I would love if he had a special pitch, one he called...the javelin. Or maybe however you say that it Moldovian. Also, wasn't the "Moldovian" a character on the Matrix or something?
  19. Pretty nice looking lineup of pitchers today. Too bad about Walker. I hope he gets it going. Vargas a Palka are boh coming on. I'll bet there is a whole thread about which one to bring up.
  20. Sometimes to leap across the gorge, one must first take several steps back to make enough room for a running start. Perhaps, this is what Stewart is doing. Wells, on the other hand, seems to be using a bullwhip to get across said gorge. Ah well, for every blown high draft pick, maybe there is an Aussie ready to fill the gap.
  21. Two deep thoughts from Jack Handey come to mind: "I'll bet the most terrifying thing for a flea is to be trapped inside the face of a clock. You don't even care, do you?" and "If they ever elect a dog president, I hope they don't just automatically choose a large dog. I'll bet there are some chihuahaha's out there with some good ideas."
  22. I've been wondering the same thing about Hildenberger. Though perhaps less flashy as a prospect, he seems like somebody who has consistently taken care of business, and is once again. Burdi seems to be off to a good start. Don't want to waste to many of those bullets, as they say. I've always been hopeful for Goodrum, and remain so. His two error game at 2B notwithstanding, it seems like he could be a poor man's Javy Baez/Ben Zobrist doppleganger. He's still pretty young, isn't he? With what depth there is at SP, we may get a chance to see Romero debut this year.
  23. It's really only a matter of time for Breslow and Tonkin. Does it really matter which one stays a little longer? I'd say Duffy is next in line for closing at this point, but as Tom Points out, beyond Berrios, there aren't any SP options on the 40 man. I'm starting to be intrigued by Niko Goodrum. He can play a lot of positions and hit a little. Sounds kind of familiar, but at least he's a fresh face.
