  1. France has continued to get some singles this month, but he has exactly two extra-base hits (both doubles) in May. In addition he only has one walk (also three HBPs). His OPS for the month is in the mid .500s and that's not good enough. I know that patience is a virtue, but I think the leash should be getting pretty short for France, at least as an everyday player. For now, I would given Clemens the at-bats against right handed pitching. I do think France could be a pretty good pinch hitter with his ability to use the whole field and make contact.
  2. Other than Biggio's double in the first, the Royals didn't hit a lot of balls hard, but they had runners on every inning against Pablo and he couldn't get through six.
  3. Diego Castillo (infielder) acquired by the Royals. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/05/royals-acquire-diego-castillo.html
  4. First things first--Happy Birthday Carson McCusker! He's 27 today. It would be a great story if he came up and started hitting immediately as if he was still facing AAA pitching and never returned to the minors and became a star. For his good and the good of my favorite professional sports franchise, I hope it happens. The flip side is that reality bites. Carson McCusker probably won't hit much and he'll probably be sent to the minors when both Buxton and Wallner return from their injuries unless someone else gets injured in the meantime. McCusker wasn't regarded as much of a prospect for some reasons. He has always had a contact and strikeout issue and he's apparently not a great fielder. His age works against him as a prospect as well. It remains to be seen if he has hitting weaknesses that can be exploited or whether he has adjusted well enough to cover those weaknesses. I expect he will get another start against a left handed pitcher in the KC series. If he crushes, he might start changing expectations and get a bit longer leash before he is sent back to St. Paul. Some players are late bloomers and sometimes talent evaluators are wrong. However, I think that @Riverbrian is correct that his role is laid in for him and it doesn't offer a huge chance to thrive. Life isn't fair and the big man most likely won't be given a lot of rope to get and hold a spot on the Twins active roster.
  5. Purely defense? Probably Vázquez (C), France (1B), Clemens (2B), Correa (SS), Lee 3B, Bader (LF), Keirsey (CF) and Castro (RF). Maybe the outfield configuration might be different. According to BBRef, Clemens has positive fielding marks at all positions he's played except right field. Eyeball test for Jonah Bride is that he's a very capable corner infielder, perhaps better than France or Lee. Lewis has looked much better in the field since his return--no bad throws and getting to every ball that he should get to.
  6. Ryan Fitzgerald optioned to St. Paul. Speculation is Correa will be activated for the coming Royals series.
  7. Nice GDP. Despite his bobble earlier, Bride looks very capable at first and third.
  8. Excellent changeups to Manzardo. Keep it going Sheriff!
  9. Cleveland has had really good defensive centerfielders for several years. With Thomas out, they don't now. I've seen several less than stellar plays from their centerfielders in the games I've seen Cleveland play.
  10. How many times has Durán come in in the middle of an inning?
  11. I felt like it was about 100% chance that Ramirez would get on base in that situation.
  12. Small ball run makes it easier to send Ryan out for the ninth.
  13. If the score holds it will be interesting in the late innings. Ryan's pitch count should be in decent shape, but the bullpen is fully rested. And there's another game today.
  14. France hasn't been a disappointment, mostly because he's produced in RiSP situations, but he's basically a replacement level player.
  15. That runners in scoring position stat can't be right, can it?
  16. Sometimes pinch hitting in the middle innings might work out if the pinch hitter is not Margot.
  17. With all the rain and the probability of more rain, I think the game will go on with lots of work on the field between innings. There is no reason to delay, it's going to rain and the weather is miserable.
  18. It looks like drizzle for the next five or six hours. A dreary, soggy cold day. If the grounds crew has the field in shape, I would presume they’ll play through the rain.
  19. I heard Glen Perkins do an interview with Gibson and it was obvious Gibson was a favorite teammate of Perkins. My brother and I chatted with Gibby in spring training about a decade ago and he seems to be a real good guy and I’ve been a fan since.
  20. I know you’re being facetious, but if Ryan goes six, he’ll get the win (or loss).
  21. Yeah, I like to see two regular starters for the games on Wednesday. That would leave Pablo, Ober and Zebby for the Royals series. It is my understanding that the Twins can add a player for the regularly scheduled game on Wednesday. Dan Hayes reporting that Ryan will "relieve" in the suspended game and that Paddack will pitch in the regularly scheduled game (weather permitting).
  22. Trying to get in only five innings isn't good for the integrity of the game. It wouldn't be fair to the losing team and I don't think it should be the goal, just so they get a game in. The weather app I am looking at says that there might be some light rain tomorrow afternoon, but I'm guessing they will get the suspended game and the regularly scheduled game in.
  23. Willi Castro had a nice half season in 2024 and was rewarded with an All-Star nod due to injuries. His versatility has been on full display since he became a Minnesota Twin. His development into an everyday player who has a whole locker full of gloves that he uses is a nice story. Was he one of the top 60 players at midseason in 2024? No, but he might have been in the top hundred. All good for Willi. The Twins have had several guys that were only given an All-Star berth because somebody had to be on the team. Dave Engle and Ron Coomer are probably the best examples. José Berríos and Michael Cuddyer might be others and I'm sure there are more. I don't think there's any reason to criticize the players for being named, but the term "All-Star" is diminished when less than deserving players are named and only because every team has to have a representative.
