  1. Slow guys trying to run down a fast guy make it a little tougher to execute.
  2. Every staff in baseball has injuries and injury histories. The Twins had been exceedingly healthy in their pitching staff until Pablo's arm injury, now Matthews, whose diagnosis wasn't great, and things don't look so rosy. We can add in that SWR's start was not confidence inspiring and it's fair to say that the Twins starting staff looks a lot weaker than it did two weeks ago. Guys need to step up and even if they do, cracks are showing in the starting rotation. Equally important, the bullpen has been very healthy and that is with veterans with long injury histories (Stewart and Topa). Someone said that Alcalá has an option, but that's not really true (can't be optioned without his consent), but Tonkin is on the road to recovery and there are no reported injuries for any relief pitcher on the 40-man roster.
  3. Good catch by Carter. I wasn't overly impressed with him leaving his feet on the two balls in front of him, but a lot of CFs don't catch the ball hit by Larnach. BTW, they called Seager's ball a hit--c'mon.
  4. I'm an old timer--Harmon hit a lot of those "home run in an elevator shaft".
  5. We know C4 is a good defender, but that's an error.
  6. I thought he threw more good pitches in the second. His first inning wasn't awe inspiring.
  7. The Royce play, correctly called an error, was poor execution of the one-hop throw. Off line and low velocity.
  8. Sim can't continue to work behind in the count and succeed. He got through the inning, but he needs to throw more quality strikes.
  9. Lineup is posted. Interestingly, if Lee were to replace Lewis, every hitter would have an average between.245 and .274, not a wide range at all. Texas is hitting.221 as a team, with an OPS of .639, slightly better than Vázquez and slightly worse than Lee.
  10. I check Umpire Scorecard occasionally and according to their data, it’s real and pretty persistent. How much does it matter? A game or two perhaps, but playing better and regression to the mean will probably help them for the next 60% of the season.
  11. Some are presenting Vázquez as some kind of defensive superstar and pitcher whisperer. I see a good defender with a weak bat and think that the club would be better if he played less. Yes, he homered yesterday and drove in another run with a grounder, but he did strike out another time with the bases loaded. If his grounder would have been a couple more steps toward second base it would have been a double play instead of an RBI groundout. As long as Baldelli is the mana.ger, the Twins will have a tandem at catcher (IMHO) and I would like to see Jeffers paired with a younger catcher next year, preferably a LH hitter. Investing serious money in guys over 35 seldom works especially when their career has been in decline for multiple years.
  12. Too bad that Adams didn't get into a game. I hope he gets his chance later on this year. I don't condemn the Twins for doing this, but it's got to be disappointing for the player since he did nothing to be sent down.
  13. There is no person in MLB to compare with Arraez, period. Arraez has insane contact skills, but still has minimal value due to speed and defensive deficiencies. He has struck out five times all year! He also has the lowest swing speed and a 0.0 WAR. Edit to add: Oops, I quoted the wrong posting. I meant to quote @Old Crow instead I quoted @tony&rodney.
  14. If Eeles can play a major league shortstop, he will make the major leagues. If not, he is no better than Fitzgerald, who got about half a cup of coffee in the majors due to a roster crunch. He is a better fit than Bride or Keirsey Jr. because he's an infielder more suited to hitting right handed pitching. I have major doubts about Eeles ever hitting enough to be a serious major league contributor, but his speed and infield defense might be an upgrade from what the Twins now have.
  15. LaMonte Wade Jr. traded to the Angels. Giants DFA'd him last week. Good pickup for the Halos, I think. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/06/angels-acquire-lamonte-wade-jr.html
  16. Wallner had a tough week in the outfield. He has decent speed and a fine throwing arm, but bad decisions and bad routes turned outs into hits and singles into doubles. It seems to me that a single player makes a cluster of mistakes. I remember a bad couple of games from Lee at second base and similar struggles for Castro in left field. On balance, none of these guys are really bad fielders, but it does seem that one bobble makes a second mistake more likely. The Twins starting pitching depth will be tested now and their bullpen might face overuse scenarios unless the reinforcements can get deep in games and be effective. Also, I'm wondering how the team will go about making room for SWR on Tuesday. The easiest move would be to return Adams without him getting a chance to pitch. I personally am ready for Alcalá to be DFA'd. There have been more hopeful signs from the offense, but it hasn't quite clicked yet and we're approaching the statistical middle of the season. Seeing two of Lewis, Correa and Buxton get red hot would do wonders for the run scoring. The Twins weren't knocked out by their poor start. They are in contention to challenge for postseason play, but they need to play well and avoid slumps if they want to have a chance to make noise in October.
  17. I was stunned that Vladdie made third on a single to left. I watched the parts of the game I missed and rewound to that point and 1) Vladdie must be down 20 lbs. from last year and he is moving much better and 2) he had a huge secondary lead.
  18. Okay, I thought that was the third, so the ump (IMHO) had one good inning and one bad inning. This game is taking a long time BTW.
  19. I thought he was really good the first two innings, but missed 3-4 in the third inning.
  20. Productive outs, but a bigger number would be nice.
  21. Bases loaded, nobody out. It would be nice to put a crooked number on the board.
