  1. Purely defense? Probably Vázquez (C), France (1B), Clemens (2B), Correa (SS), Lee 3B, Bader (LF), Keirsey (CF) and Castro (RF). Maybe the outfield configuration might be different. According to BBRef, Clemens has positive fielding marks at all positions he's played except right field. Eyeball test for Jonah Bride is that he's a very capable corner infielder, perhaps better than France or Lee. Lewis has looked much better in the field since his return--no bad throws and getting to every ball that he should get to.
  2. Ryan Fitzgerald optioned to St. Paul. Speculation is Correa will be activated for the coming Royals series.
  3. Nice GDP. Despite his bobble earlier, Bride looks very capable at first and third.
  4. Excellent changeups to Manzardo. Keep it going Sheriff!
  5. Cleveland has had really good defensive centerfielders for several years. With Thomas out, they don't now. I've seen several less than stellar plays from their centerfielders in the games I've seen Cleveland play.
  6. How many times has Durán come in in the middle of an inning?
  7. I felt like it was about 100% chance that Ramirez would get on base in that situation.
  8. Small ball run makes it easier to send Ryan out for the ninth.
  9. If the score holds it will be interesting in the late innings. Ryan's pitch count should be in decent shape, but the bullpen is fully rested. And there's another game today.
  10. France hasn't been a disappointment, mostly because he's produced in RiSP situations, but he's basically a replacement level player.
  11. That runners in scoring position stat can't be right, can it?
  12. Sometimes pinch hitting in the middle innings might work out if the pinch hitter is not Margot.
  13. With all the rain and the probability of more rain, I think the game will go on with lots of work on the field between innings. There is no reason to delay, it's going to rain and the weather is miserable.
  14. It looks like drizzle for the next five or six hours. A dreary, soggy cold day. If the grounds crew has the field in shape, I would presume they’ll play through the rain.
  15. I heard Glen Perkins do an interview with Gibson and it was obvious Gibson was a favorite teammate of Perkins. My brother and I chatted with Gibby in spring training about a decade ago and he seems to be a real good guy and I’ve been a fan since.
  16. I know you’re being facetious, but if Ryan goes six, he’ll get the win (or loss).
  17. Yeah, I like to see two regular starters for the games on Wednesday. That would leave Pablo, Ober and Zebby for the Royals series. It is my understanding that the Twins can add a player for the regularly scheduled game on Wednesday. Dan Hayes reporting that Ryan will "relieve" in the suspended game and that Paddack will pitch in the regularly scheduled game (weather permitting).
  18. Trying to get in only five innings isn't good for the integrity of the game. It wouldn't be fair to the losing team and I don't think it should be the goal, just so they get a game in. The weather app I am looking at says that there might be some light rain tomorrow afternoon, but I'm guessing they will get the suspended game and the regularly scheduled game in.
  19. Willi Castro had a nice half season in 2024 and was rewarded with an All-Star nod due to injuries. His versatility has been on full display since he became a Minnesota Twin. His development into an everyday player who has a whole locker full of gloves that he uses is a nice story. Was he one of the top 60 players at midseason in 2024? No, but he might have been in the top hundred. All good for Willi. The Twins have had several guys that were only given an All-Star berth because somebody had to be on the team. Dave Engle and Ron Coomer are probably the best examples. José Berríos and Michael Cuddyer might be others and I'm sure there are more. I don't think there's any reason to criticize the players for being named, but the term "All-Star" is diminished when less than deserving players are named and only because every team has to have a representative.
  20. "Correlation does not connote causation" from Intro to Stats more than 50 years ago and I believe it is still taught that way. We don't know what causes Alcalá to be so inconsistent or more accurately for him to have such inconsistent command, but we do know his results have suffered. The same with his injuries. The manager and coaches that are around him are at times using him on back to back days and for more than one inning as is often done with the last guy in the bullpen, but almost all relievers are tasked with multiple innings or consecutive days at some point the way the game is now played. I don't think mistreatment is keeping Alcalá from being successful. The same for Miranda and Kirilloff who you have also asserted were held back by Twins field staff.
  21. I don't think an outfield of Larnach, Keirsey Jr. and McCusker is ideal. We don't know when Willi Castro will be available and Wallner and Buxton are out for the foreseeable future. If Bader isn't hurting himself long term, having him at less than 100% is better than the alternatives IMHO. Similar situation with France earlier I think. He wasn't 100% and got pressed into duty after the collision between Buck and C4. I don't know if he's 100% yet, but the alternatives are not any better than France at less than 100%.
  22. Tuesday looks like rain all day. I think they'll get games in on Monday and Wednesday. Even though the Twins are banged up, Cleveland isn't going great either. They just got swept in Cincinnati with Emilio Pagán getting saves in all three games. Some measure of revenge for Pagán after what Cleveland did to him in a Twins uniform.
  23. Alcalá has too much service time to be optioned without his consent. If the Twins want him in St. Paul, he would have to be DFA'd.
