    I want to see the prospects too and not older guys, but the success of Hatch and maybe Kriske would go a long ways towards building a bullpen next year. I dislike seeing Fitzgerald and Gasper on the active roster, but if they’re basically bench sitting maybe it’s the right call. To comment further on the completed Tiger series, it was fun to see the Twins play well (better fundamentally than the Tigers) and manage to win a series. The bullpen is going to lose a lot of games going forward, but maybe an arm or two will rise out of the ashes.

    September call ups aren’t what they used to be. Two players, mostly likely an additional bullpen arm and a third catcher. Edit to add: I missed the @karcherd comment which said essentially the same thing I posted.

    Several of the players discussed had fewer or no MLB plate appearances. Choutio and Keith had extensions with zero PAs, as did the Red Sox Campbell. It’s a risk a selling ownership is unlikely to take and the results of speculative early extensions are decidedly mixed.

    I’m afraid you’re right and he’s been unimpressive with the bat. I’d like to see what he can do over a 30 game stretch before the team gives up on him. Roden is the same for me. Thrived in AAA, but so far isn’t up to major league ball. Larnach and Wallner are too much alike IMHO and the club will have to choose one and trade the other. Zebby + Festa + Abel + Bradley is a wealth of rotation talent on the cusp. One or two to the bullpen?

    First of all, best wishes to you in your fight. I lost a too-young spouse to cancer and hate hearing similar stories, although much progress has been made and many battle for years and even decades. I have tried to be evenhanded in my thoughts about the Twins. I don’t believe the field staff and the front office are clueless, but do think they’ve tried to put too many square pegs in round holes. Somebody should pay for the team’s failures and Baldelli and Falvey are the “usual suspects” The selloff is a surrender for this year and maybe next. With a front three of López, Ryan and Ober and some dynamic players within a year of contributing, I hate to see a rebuild. I, too, appreciate the work and determination it takes to be a major league ballplayer. Through the years my favorite professional sports team has given me hours of thrills and I’ve appreciated their skills and abilities.

    The Pohlads say they were operating at a loss. Lowering payroll can and should make it so that they can at least break even with decent attendance. They haven't done anything to put fannies in the seats, but bringing in new players might bring in someone who could become a fan favorite. Winning is the magic elixir and it is difficult to believe that the Twins will be competitive for a while. The other thing that could help attendance is new ownership, if they are viewed as a breath of fresh air.

    After a quick start, Sabato has been pretty lousy for the Saints. Maybe he’ll have another hot streak and will get a chance with the Twins. IDK which of McCusker or Sabato merit a promotion, but there’s no time like the present to give guys like that a chance.

    Sure, it would be nice to keep Keaschall eligible for ROY consideration next year and in a lost season, considerations other than W and L can figure in. It may be best for Keaschall to use all 20 of his rehab days in St. Paul and it is rare that these circumstances are duplicated.

    What do we know? Lee is the everyday SS, Lewis is at third. For now, Clemens will be the primary first baseman and Julien will play against right handers. Keaschall remains on rehab and Outman is still in the minors.

    When exactly did they “quit” in 2023? I expect that if the club is sold they will make wholesale changes including a new field staff. I also fully expect that Rocco Baldelli will be hired to manage again by someone. I think he is well liked in general and in touch with 21st Century baseball.

    I think that is true. The Twins seventh and eighth guys are responsible for a disproportionate amount of the "bad numbers" quoted earlier. Durán, Coulombe, Varland, Stewart and Jax (probably in that order) have been from elite to very good. They are all gone now, meaning that what is left is most likely the worst in MLB.

    Four position players moved, that’s almost half of the regulars. As much as exploiting market inefficiencies is part of their means of operation, so is the firm belief they can build a good bullpen at minimal expense.

    Yes, this is, in a nutshell, what is wrong with the current management team from the coaching staff to the general manager. If I’m faulting Rocco, it is for his inability to harvest talent. If I’m faulting Falvey et al, it’s trying to maximize incomplete players (not enough athleticism) because they are projected to hit. It seems they think they are smarter than their competition.

    The biggest thing the Twins will get for any players with expiring contracts is…..salary relief. That is why I’m not excited about the great sell off. I actually will be happy for the guys who get traded because they will get to play for a contender. I can’t get excited about seeing Martin, McCusker, Julien, Eeles or Sabato. Some of the pitchers in the minors are intriguing. If they trade a player under team control, they might get somebody back that can help them.

    Are you commenting about Lee? He chases a lot and that yields bad at-bats. Puck wasn’t very selective, but always made decent contact. In his career he had less walks and strikeouts than average. Newman was bereft of power (Lee is probably a bit below average) but also made contact a decent amount of the time. I don’t remember Newman as particularly prone to chase.

    Agree with the post by @Riverbrian. Position player development has been problematic whatever the reason. The WAR accumulated by Twins position players this year has been among the lowest in baseball and on balance the team has been pretty healthy this year. Truthfully, I don't see much help at Triple A, so a retooling seems to be in order.

    The consensus seems to be a major reshuffle for the Twins. I can’t say that I blame the diehard fan base for feeling that way. I hope the Twins get lucky in selling off expiring contracts and acquire some guy who helps them soon, but it is truly a lottery ticket. Selling a controllable asset is a bit bigger deal. I wouldn’t be opposed to one guy who is under team control sent out for good to elite talent in return.
