  1. Kepler drives in Mauer and Sano with a triple. 3-0 Twins with one out in the bottom of the first - Circus Boy, are you listening?

  3. ... and then scores aggressively on Mauer's bingle.
  4. Dozier leads off the bottom of the first with a clean single. Nice to see.
  5. Moderator's note: may I suggest taking out the personal asides as you discuss this?
  6. Moreover, most humans can't throw the ball 90 MPH. I am Jose Berrios's height but I can't fling it like he does. Perhaps Tyler Robertson and Aaron Slegers already are leveraging the maximum that their height (and the presumably proportionately sized limbs) gives them.
  7. I think after a few weeks (May 1) the order becomes based on current standings. http://www.purplerow.com/2009/2/19/762532/mlb-transactions-part-thre
  8. It's wishful thinking, I suppose, but I was hoping for a no-devil season this year. "But he turned, and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Vogelsong."
  9. "Original". Ell-oh-ell. Hey wait. It worked!
  10. As a point of reference, Reno is by quite a margin the smallest AAA city, or at least it was when I looked at that question a couple of years ago. Reno went through similar deliberations you describe - ideally a AA sized town, but no such league is nearby, and they had struggled with single-A California League teams for many years before giving up and embracing the Independent league route to no great success, so I was skeptical a AAA team could thrive. It's been several years now, and so far so good - the town built a very nice new ballpark, and I think the casinos got behind it. Boise being of similar size but different nature (I like the place a lot), I think we're in agreement to doubt the success could be replicated - but since I was wrong before, I'd never say never.
  11. I fixed it in the Forums version. I don't have edit permission on the Article version. A quirk of the system, it seems.
  12. My reasoning is admittedly circular, but since the players take it seriously, I do. After the first round and the joke teams have been sent home, I expect to see baseball played at a high level, and as such it's a nice alternative to MLB. If they ever stop taking it seriously, so do I.
  13. I can't see this website either.
  14. Via snail mail, yes. It started around when I got married. The sysadmin still hasn't tracked down the cause.
  15. Then do not read any analysis reports by sabrmetrician Theophilus Punoval.
  16. That's been my concern with him all along. And I don't think his bat is ready yet. OTOH, he's not a high-ceiling guy - he has a chance to carve out a career in the majors for a few years, maybe even sneak in an all-star invitation one year if things break just so. I'm thinking an outfield Nick Punto, in which case his usefulness could even go on for years. So there's no reason to play service-time games with him, nor endlessly fine-tune his approach to eliminate all exploitable flaws so as to get the most out of his boundless talent. As soon as his bat is marginally ready, bring him up, and start reaping whatever defensive value he brings. This is what other teams manage to do on a regular basis, supplying the major league team with 2- and 3-tool players who fit a present need, even if it's only for a few short seasons. It's a cold business, sometimes, but conversely Granite has a golden opportunity if time and fortune mean he is able to grab it.
  17. Typically the first cuts are of the highest-ceiling non-roster guys, to get them to the proper group where they'll receive more in-game reps after having rubbed elbows with the major leaguers for a few weeks. These moves all seem in keeping with that.
  18. To me, Buxton's swing during the last several weeks of the season suggests that he is lobbying for the #3 hole, not leadoff.
  19. I guess that counts as a correction, on the Twins starting staff.
  20. Most years the average starter has an ERA+ under 100. It's the nature of the role. Doesn't make him an ace, but #5 is way undervaluing that kind of production.
  21. It didn't look like it was even especially hard contact at the plate, although the camera angle might not be the best to judge by. Quite a freak injury for the pitcher.
  22. I was livid, the year noted ringer Rene Tosoni played for Italy. I hope no innocent wagerers were burned.
  23. Any lottery numbers come to mind that you'd like to share, Nostradamus?
  24. Boston Globe has a thriving cluster of them, catering to all interests. I like the "108 Stitches" baseball one - it's Red Sox oriented of course.
