  1. I wasn't able to watch the game tonight until the bases were loaded with two out in the bottom of the fifth. Y'all might want to wander over to the game thread to see how superstition is done.
  2. The Fernando Rodney Experience is a positive one tonight. You're welcome. #superstition
  3. I just consulted snopes.com and their research indicates you remain firm in your opinion.
  4. Effective inning for Hildenberger. You're welcome. #superstition
  5. Damage averted. You're welcome. #superstition
  6. All those Arby's ads bothered me until I learned that Ving Rhames does the voiceovers. They took on a different level for me after that. I like how he draws out Awwwwbys.
  7. Tuned in just in time to bring about the groundout to end the fifth inning. You're welcome. #superstition
  8. NOOOOOO!!! Quick, take it back! Brian can resist anything except a dare.
  9. Not particularly comparable situations IMO. For example, if Harvey somehow turned things around later this season, there's no way the Mets would benefit in 2019.
  10. Here are the recommended tried-and-true Best Practices for your situation going forward:
  11. No intention to threadjack, but looking up that other one brought me to this (tangentially baseball oriented) one:
  12. They'll be here all week, folks. Remember to tip your server.
  13. If that happens, you'll have missed a stretch of pretty good baseball.
  14. The Zen that can be written or spoken is not the true Zen. The starter that can not go through an opposing lineup a third time is not a starter. Maybe that's your position on Odorizzi and he should be removed from the rotation. If so, then we need another guy who can go the necessary distance, or the bullpen will quickly be burned to a crisp.
  15. I think you have him pegged about correctly. That's not a profile around which you build a team. Now and then, when I see a guy like that having a long tenure with a team, it causes me to wonder about what kind of compromises got made in the roster construction process, for that to happen. Loyalty to players is good, and sometimes gets rewarded, but all in all a guy like Robbie Grossman is pretty easily replaceable, if by bad luck the guy you try in his place fizzles out. Remember how we obtained Grossman in the first place, after all.
  16. If that story isn't true, it should be.
  17. I just tend to ignore Pat Reusse's comments concerning weight. He dieted down by about 100 pounds a decade or so ago, and therefore IMO it's just a thing with him. Like how ex-smokers and ex-drinkers are often the most vociferous in their unsolicited advice to others. It doesn't make Reusse a bad person, but it's not productive either. I write it off and move on.
  18. As for the thread topic, I tend toward the same split between regular life and sports when it comes to superstitions, but I can't think of any charms that really help the Twins. I try to avoid jinxing any of the players, but that's more of a double negative. I'll do rally caps in late innings at the ballpark, but at home I have to concern myself with what Mrs Ash thinks. Once in a while I've had good luck with crossing my arms right-over-left instead of left-over-right - others might have the reverse tendency - maybe if we all vow to cross our arms in the "opposite" direction during rallies, we can get some RISP success. Or maybe the key is for us all to align one way or the other - thoughts?
  19. Teflon, are you signed up to do a Game Thread Intro? That's what I thought I was reading, at first. We've got openings for the Angels games next week, I believe. Maybe it would be a good luck charm if you signed up to do one.
  20. Well, I've put off posting an update, hoping for better things to say, but it appears that after a good five-game start to the season followed by that "long hiatus due to weather", Ben's in a full-fledged slump. His season batting average stands now at .220, and his numbers after mid-April are much uglier than that. My suggestion in an earlier post didn't seem to have worked. Here's hoping Kernels' hitting coach Brian Dinkelman can figure out a tip or two, to get Ben going again. Yes, I'm passing the baton, and saying it's all on you, BD. Time to earn those big bucks that minor league coaching brings you.
  21. A reminder, many of the Twins' top prospects are featured in TD's Adopt-A-Prospect project. You can find my page for Aaron Slegers here. Consider adopting a player of your own!
  22. Aaron took top April honors for all of the Twins' minor league system as TD's Minor League Starting Pitcher of the Month.
  23. Probably I've said this already, but when I tell people that I think Trump is fundamentally crooked, I don't mean in any sense of specific crimes. I just mean that, with him, nothing is ever quite straight.
