  1. A quicker out than a strikeout is one possible outcome. Another is a walk. A ball in play can also fall safely for a hit, in which case you start the count all over again. Strikeouts and pitch counts both being up may be correlation without being causation - in either direction.
  2. I'd click Like for the pun if I knew what RO was. FIve seconds of googling didn't help me.
  3. Aaron followed up his stinker on May 3 versus the Lehigh Iron Valley Pigs with a fine game at Buffalo. In his seven innings he allowed 5 baserunners (2 doubles, 2 singles, and 1 walk), striking out 5 and limiting the Bisons to a solitary tally. That run came via a leadoff double in the fourth inning followed by two groundouts, so to me it was a bit of so-so luck of sequencing more than anything. Thanks to two double-plays, he faced only 24 batters, consuming 83 pitches. I bet he could have continued, but Tyler Duffey and John Curtiss came in to finish up the 2-1 win. After 6 starts in AAA, then, his season numbers show a 3-1 win-loss record and a 2.41 ERA. His WHIP is a very presentable 1.018. The only knock is the modest 5.5 strikeout rate per nine innings. Slice and dice the numbers however you like, IMO he's major-league ready and is lacking only the opportunity to see what he could put together in a big league rotation.
  4. Democrats aren't leading with "message" because they are fractured as much as the Republicans are. The Bernie wing wants to adopt a full agenda of progressive policies, and isn't satisfied with a message involving half-measures. They're going to fritter away this opportunity. The perfect is the enemy of the good.
  5. Okay, you buy the premise, but you take issue with a bit of hyperbole I offered (and "possible", not "probable", at that) in order to make the point. If perhaps a team in desperate need would take Lynn off our hands without our even needing to cover part of the salary, that is still a far cry from him being a significant trading chip to acquire someone that fills a need of our own.
  6. 29 other teams had a chance to sign him. The Twins made the best offer. He's off to a mediocre start. No one gives up much to get some of that. It's possible no one takes him on even if he were waived, at least until pennant races get clarified a little.
  7. But, decline the option, and then re-sign him on amicable terms for a lower amount? I'd still see the Twins as a likely landing spot for him as a free agent.
  8. To my simple understanding, the key for the changeup is to have the delivery be indistinguishable from the fastball, and second is maintaining command, so if there's any risk of him tipping the pitch or losing location in the process of trying to make it be "better", I'd say leave it alone.
  9. OrLAAANdo... CePEDa! FerNAAANdo... RoMERo! Sounds like a star in the making, to me.
  10. Torii: Red milk. Dick: I don't get what you're saying. (Ash: me either) Torii: Red wine. Dick: Oh.
  11. I ran the replay several times and still didn't spot legs. He just kind of rolled down the basepath, like a fireplug probably would.
  12. A piano-movers truck driver. With the piano still on his back.
  13. Ever seen the Escobar Name Game? Looks like turnabout's fair play.
  14. Which works out to something under 3 cents for every man, woman and child in the country. Three cents here, and three cents there, for this program and that, and pretty soon you're talking about a whole dollar. All in all, there are other reasons to debate this military policy than monetary.
  15. The present shadow of doubt in batters' minds probably has more effect on them, than the uncertainty the pitcher has, as to what will get called a strike. So I assume that automated ball/strike calls will favor the offense. That may cut down on the K's, to Chief's liking, but may also increase walks and homers. Just something to take into account - an increase in run scoring may need to be balanced in some other way. A less-juiced ball would be my solution as well, as it probably results in batters accepting the need to put more balls in play. Optimal launch-angle resulting in mere cans o' corn will concentrate the mind wonderfully.
  16. Fair. I will likewise back off my stance that the Twins need to win the World Series, if they would just win the World Series and take part in the parade afterward.
  17. That's what you said last time. 75!
  18. Darn spell check. That's what I thought I typed.
  19. We'll be playing without the DH today, right? I hope Gant reaches base, just once, so that HrbieMauer can power-lift him for an easy out.
  20. Do some research on Little Johnny, and then get back to us.
