  1. So call my feeble attempt "Satire" instead of "Sarcasm" - which doesn't make it any safer to try on an Internet forum.
  2. Viewers hate pitching changes and will tune out if you allow a substitution.
  3. You watch the early rounds of cuts, and they're all the guys in the 6's, then the 7's. It's not infallible, but gives a hint. Duda stands out. Nicolina's a surprise, but pitching's more SSS and it's a matter of giving everyone innings.
  4. You'll get used to the site. At least we don't have anyone named Lolich for you to confront.
  5. If mine was among the responses lumped into "first question", I think I'm really asking "what does he stand for?", but it was framed in terms of a speculation offered that Biden might not jump in now that Beto has. Of course there will be some with specific litmus tests, but most of us are still in window-shopping mode at the moment.
  6. No, you didn't say anything wrongly. I was just riffing on, "young'uns, they think 10 years is a long time." I'm closer in age to Chief than to you.
  7. A decade IS several years, Sonny. I remember well, staring in dismay at the amortization table on my first mortgage. But I think your POV about it, being even stronger than mine, just makes the argument better, putting us in greater alignment, yes?
  8. Since part of the hopelessness of any large loan is the amortization schedule, where it feels to the borrower as though 99% of the first several years of payment goes only toward interest... ...would an eventual compromise solution be for the government to step in and cover the interest, in conjunction with some kind of a haircut on the amount of interest the lenders receive (in the name of avoiding worse measures like bankruptcy), but leave the principal to be repaid by the debtor? No one's getting off scot-free, by that framework, but students as a group who were misled into loans (in multiple dimensions) should get some relief, letting their payments actually pay down the loan. There was some mass-hypnosis about college, for a bunch of years, and it's not healthy for a society if an entire generational cohort lags financially. They were at fault, but... when everyone's at fault, you are unwise not to make allowances. Of course something needs to be added in terms of not letting this continue to happen. I'm not sure what to suggest.
  9. So, following this over to the new thread (thanks), Pseudo kind of hit on what I would have said to Smerf. I don't know enough yet about Beto to be opposed to him - I paid little attention to the Texas senate election except the horserace aspects - maybe he managed to avoid pinning himself down on issues, which might (or might not ) explain my ignorance. And I'm not adamantly opposed to Biden, especially in a general election. But I thought that the Harper's article, which I linked to previously, contained too many worrisome instances over the many years, of allowing the Right to stigmatize or harm the more powerless, in the service of bipartisanship. While I recognize that few politicians with a long-time voting record (*cough*Bernie*cough*) would pass muster with the progressive fringe of the party, if Beto's entrance to the presidential field would indicate to Joe that he may as well stay out, that would be very telling for me, and at odds with what I thought Beto would be like. If Joe endorses Beto by calling him "articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy," it's really going to be bad.
  10. I don't know a real lot about Beto, but if Biden doesn't run because of him, then my estimation of Beto just went down.
  11. Can you elaborate? I don't see too much similar in their motions.
  12. Climate is what you expect; weather is what you get. -- Noah
  13. I went back to my earlier response to you, and edited with an extra paragraph to clarify the joking part versus the serious observation, in case it was misconstrued.
  14. Moderator's Note: The above litany of what has been said, is the literal opposite of my request that posters collectively find something new to say or move on.
  15. Or, in May. The above was a joke - there will always be times to ask, some more consequential than others. April itself is fair game too. But, speaking as just one moderator, it seems to me that little new is being said in this thread. The direct quotes have been presented, and there has been discussion of whether and how literally to consider them. At this point, with the debate having descended to questionable rhetoric like "moronic", it may be time to move on to other topics.
  16. Great question for Cuddy next time you're at a player panel.
  17. Sounds like a software design flaw, which might pertain to any of the Boeing fleet but got turfed up due to a particular failure-prone part on the particular aircraft. Trouble is that, even in an urgent get-it-fixed timeframe, the hoops that must be jumped through to get re-certification for a new software release will take more than just a few days. Rapid bug fixes are often where the next bug is created, so regulations seem to be pretty strict about due-diligence and thorough software QA. I think I saw some guess of late-April. Fortunately is sounds like there aren't too many of these aircraft in service yet, so airlines aren't going to be grounding a third of their fleet or like that.
  18. Yes. He answered the questions up in the main body of the original post. http://twinsdaily.com/topic/32383-article-ask-seth/
  19. My quick take ... and you may get many ... In an ideal world you have 3 center fielders, and you put them wherever you want. In the real but still-near ideal world, you pick the best all-around guy for CF, and then you pick one guy with a CF arm but not quite the speed to play the position, and let him play RF, for the reason of the throw to 3B you mention. You take the other guy who has the speed to play center but lacks the arm, and put him in left, again with the throw to 3B in mind. ("Arm" includes both the strength and the accuracy, and perhaps when forced to choose, you choose the latter as the better arm.) In even less ideal situations, such as a plodding no-arm guy, it might not really matter which corner you stick him in, and will depend on the strengths of your other corner candidate. I think RF gets about as many total chances as LF. There are no absolutes. Michael Cuddyer is deaf in his left ear, so he played RF, the better to hear his partner in center. We had the fairly recent experience of watching rag-armed Ben Revere do OK in RF for a time, because Josh Willingham was signed with RF in mind and then during Spring Training it was learned he wanted to stay in left, and the team went with the veteran's wishes. Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans.
  20. That by itself is an interesting observation to this Twins fan. I don't suppose you have any insight further than that about the Reds organization - are they heavier than average on international signings, or are we lighter, or both? Probably we don't want to mess up your thread by discussing this tangent too much, though.
  21. Good for Ryne, but to my eye, Blue gave him a couple of gifts along the way there.
  22. 20+ cuts to make, a couple of weeks to make them? I think your guess is safe.
  23. It definitely is a complex issue. Dirty hands all around. I'm expecting a lot of focus on these Hollywood Elites, when the problem goes so much deeper. One of the "duped" schools has already issued an advisory that one of the sports coaches has been fired and all others will be scrutinized. All that was missing was a statement from them that they were shocked, SHOCKED.
  24. If that's the way to describe it, it's been like that since before my dad was born, and he's almost 100. The sly jokes about Harvard vs Yale by Mr Howell on Gilligan's Island did not go over viewers' heads. What's changed lately is the unrelenting pressure on all students to get into that one Dream School.
