  1. If the ball no longer appears to be moving to the left or the right, nor up nor down, then it's about to smack you between the eyes. Put your glove up. I learned that one the hard way, but I bet it can be coached.
  2. A little of everything, then. You know the saying, "he can beat you in so many ways"? Well, there's a reverse of that too......
  3. This part of Rocco's quote takes on a different light in view of yesterday's flyball lost in the Florida sun.
  4. Old-timey scouts used to look for certain traits in a prospect, such as the good face, or man hands.
  5. If Ty France doesn't come through like everyone here thinks he will, this team could easily sink to 81-81! Book it.
  6. My go-to GIF for this time of the year.
  7. Caden Kendle. Huh, that name didn't even ring a bell for me. If he is legit in CF then maybe the lack of power could be tolerated, but in his first taste of pro ball he played mostly the corners. Max Kepler without the power? It could be a short career....
  8. Quite the outlook for someone acclaimed as the team's 2024 MVP.
  9. If several of the players measure up to their potential, this team could win 100 this year. You can say that about perhaps a majority of teams, but not teams like the White Sox or Rockies or Athletics. Not with a straight face anyway. It's pretty easy to draw up a storyline where the Twins offense finally puts it together and the starting pitching stays on the reliable path that it's on and the bullpen pulls a few surprises along with the handful of pieces they already have. It Could Happen. This is the time for pleasant dreaming.
  10. I'm not sure whether even Ben's thighs were as solid as those forearms. 😀
  11. If your point is that ST numbers aren't indicative of the regular season, I would point out that on the morning of May 4 Julien had an OPS of .827 across 117 PA, playing every game the Twins were in. After that his OPS in the majors was .488. Yes, the 31st game represents a cherry-picked endpoint, and I have no idea if he slipped in the bathtub that next morning and damaged something - it's just to illustrate that he continued a good start to his year until one day he suddenly did or could not.
  12. Clete Thomas. I mean, he's batting lefty. 😀
  13. Copycat. That's what Rocco did last year in Game 1.
  14. I voted for third base, as a last minute substitute in Game 1 for nominal starter Royce Lewis who has to sit out due to a [spins the injury wheel] jammed [spins the body part wheel] head.
  15. Very weird. That number "10" seemed low. But I used b-r.com's Stathead tool, and found that 22 NL teams have done it but (as you state) only 10 in the AL. A meaningless statistical blip I am sure. The 1973 World Series champion New York Mets just missed this distinction by playing one game too few, finishing 82-79.
  16. I enjoyed reading this in Dave St Peter's voice, however.
  17. Somebody's kidding somebody, by using that label.
  18. Maybe the Phillies will take him in exchange for us keeping Castellanos. 😀
  19. I suppose they'll start him at high-A again. Keep feeding him innings until he proves they shouldn't, i.e. until there are 6 better uses for those innings.
  20. I am very tired of watching Pirates drivel already. At least it's free.
  21. I'll take Spring Training Road Games for $100, Alex.
  22. "Because Austin Martin" seems like a good all-purpose answer to a lot of questions.
  23. A dropped fly ball in CF due to the sun. Without looking at the lineup, someone could probably guess who it was anyway.
  24. Growing up in the 60s I learned early on not to compare go-go growth stocks to widows-and-orphans income instruments. Nothing new under the sun.
