  1. I initially misread the headline to be "Miguel Sano’s Legendary Defensive History at First Base" and thought I would be seeing a Randball's Stu piece.
  2. Spot oil is down another 10% this morning; it's below half of what it was a month ago, failing to find a support after a brief rally a week ago. Until this commodity reverses itself, I'm not expecting much optimism except wishful thinking in the wider market.
  3. Looking forward to Out Of The Park 21 public beta being released Tuesday. My internet time could plummet!
  4. I keep wondering who might be the overrated Marcus Stroman. Seems like other teams manage to pop out these serviceable major leaguers from solid but not stellar prospects, out of nowhere almost. Maybe it's our turn.
  5. Guys who get drafted and make it to the majors are the exception, period. Our interest is mainly in the exceptional players. We didn't seem to come away with many.
  6. Try Minute Maid with a 315' poke to left. *grumble*
  7. I'm hardly expert but I think most DCBs last less than a day and the enthusiasm can be seen dying out before the end of trading as the few bargain hunters finish their scavenging and no one else steps in to do some more. What this market is reflecting is new data and new announcements coming out daily, by turns worrisome and optimistic. I don't personally feel talented enough to forecast what comes next, so I'm sitting tight. At the moment money is to be made not by day-trading but by lightning-fast algorithms that let you elbow ahead of fellow traders by milliseconds to take advantage of the volatility.
  8. The ivy suggests it was Wrigley Field, which was the name given to the PCL ballpark at the time.
  9. Put Trevor May's eyebrows on Homer Bailey's face and you have Don Mossi. The ears admittedly would have to come from outer space.
  10. Don't take my little joke too seriously. But if Hoey is a useful thought-experiment, that's more than I hoped for.
  11. Does that really express the organizational outlook? Velo over command? Or, is it better expressed as you had it in your article, "a plan to help them reach optimal movements"? Each pitcher will vary as to exactly where that optimum is, but I would think the aim is to find the sweet spot where a little additional velocity comes at too high a price in command, and a little extra command comes at too high a price in velocity.
  12. My dad retired around 1992. He's thinking of going back and changing it to 1997.
  13. Hrabosky to Dobnak: "your fumanchu-fu is weak, Grasshopper."
  14. When the TD minor league players' rankings were revealed one by one, it was striking to consider how strong the system was when looking at who was #18, #17, #16, #15, ... Sadly, I do not get that same warm feeling while going down this list. Our talent pool is not deep, by this particular measure. An injury or two, and we're dipping into AAA quality replacement-level faces. Also, I am seriously worried about regression from Kepler in this regard.
  15. The Stand by Stephen King is probably required reading/watching.
  16. That's one I haven't seen. Do you have a source? I didn't locate one with a small bit of googling. There are frequent mentions in the news of a vaccine being in the works, which I would think would be pointless if you could keep getting the infection.
  17. "Hey, it's not my fault that I was never taught to take responsibility for my own actions." -- the next excuse we're going to be fed by a media 'insider'
  18. The decision whether or not to offer a long-term contract is itself reductive, so it's not necessarily wrong to use a thought process that in the end is reductive.
  19. Can't help thinking the Yankees already accomplished this feat.
  20. The more pitchers in the rotation, the less frequently your best arms are allowed to contribute. Unless the theory is that extra rest turns into better results, seems like a net negative.
